Yes i love it! Runehammer did something similar with dwarven machines, but they pulsated damaging Energy on the ground floor (the floor is lava stuff). Another thing I like it that the monuments could be controlled by the good guys and used against the bad guys.

Every video is great. What I love the most is that all of your advice is actionable. Thank you!

Good ideas here! Related to your suggestions, i like to connect a monument (cauldron, crystal, water pool, etc) to lair actions, legendary actions, legendary resistance, or special ability (maybe not all of those things at once, though). Characters can see these effects in action and decide whether or not they want to try to disable the monument.

This is really similar to Pathfinder2e Hazards. There's simple Hazards and Complex Hazards. I would recommend looking into them for inspiration if y'all want to implement monuments.

You make a lot of great videos but this might be one of the best ideas for combat I’ve heard

Love this idea! It'll slot nicely into my PF2e game. Because of the 3-action economy and codification of knowledge checks, it requires even fewer adjustments. 1 action recall knowledge to figure out what it is. And then 1 action per pillar to dork it.

There really needs to be a way to give multiple upvotes on a video. I've come back to this at least 3 times already to mine more golden nuggets. Me and my players can't thank you enough.

The Isle of Dread features a couple of six mile hexes where there are so many random monster encounters it's impossible to get a long rest. These aren't only single hexes. They reach out two hexes in every direction. It was completely unexplained. I can't get away with an unexplained and unexplainable phenomenon like this, so I added in some huge monuments to act as the focii of some kind of summoning magic. The PCs started at the edges and worked inward, and under the central hex they located a trapped djinn noble (Dao) that was used to power the summonings. The eventually found the Dao's crown and when they returned it to him it broke the trap holding him. So he granted them a wish, then returned to his home in the elemental plane of earth, shutting down that monster spawner system. 10/10: Would grant the PCs a wish again.

My group went into a room with 4 pillars facing the center. When any one of them were touched, they cast burning hands. We ended up turning that into a monster trap, luring the next group of mobs into the room and then decimating them by touching the pillars. It was memorable!
