Not all slytherins are evil. Not all gryffindors are brave and pure. I fully believe the reason we slytherins are touted as vile and evil is simply biasedness. Yes Draco and pals went out of their way to harass Harry but let me ask you this: Did we ever see any real interaction between Harry and anyone not in Dracos inner circle. Or was it all cookie cutter interactions between the same groups both of which were force fed Gryffindor/Slytherin rivalry. A rivalry treated as absolute as holy writ. Yes slytherins treated Harry like shit but like wise so did Harry

Tails 322 Yes! Thank you! I wanna scream every time the entire house is sent to the dungeons during the battle of Hogwarts. I love Minerva but that always upsets me. Deeply upsets me. Stupid bias. It’s horrible the way children were set up to go against each other. Plus, Draco was complicated. I highly doubt he got the love he needed from his father. I wish Dumbledore would have given him the love he gave the Gryffindor students. Sadly, he tried to squeeze it in moments before Snape had to kill him. He needed the proper guidance he wasn’t getting at home. Plus, he was in Slytherin so naturally, he was treated guilty before really making any serious mistakes. Bullies are usually that way because they are also bullied. You can tell he regretted being on the opposite side in the end but he was stuck at that point. I hate that the movie cut the scene of him tossing Harry the wand when he realized he was actually alive. Having said all that, Draco WAS a bully and a prat. Not evil though. He could have grown into a better character without all the bias.

I don't think we can take those conversations and interactions at face value either. I mean Harry and Draco live at a time where Slytherin vs Gryffindor has been pounded into minds of students for centuries. Plus the underlaying issues of war, and the pure blood mentality was really pronounced in the 1900's in the wizarding world. So Slytherins just get a bad wrap. Plus JKR also chose to make Slyrherins the fave of bad guys. So that doesn't help.

Also, the books (and movies) were heavily focused on a Gryffindor protagonist and a Slytherin antagonist. They were mostly written from the perspective of a Gryffindor student who has a distaste against the house. Only reason we don't stereotype Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws as evil is because we don't see bad guys from those houses (if there were, they weren't too villainy).

you have to realize they aren't the evil people you think they are. I'm pretty sure the house was cursed. Slytherin's are probably the most likely person your to befriend (I myself am a slytherin) It kind of gets annoying with insults and stereotypes that people push onto innocents.

Absolutely right. I'm a Slytherin and in my experience, Slytherins can have dark souls, but seldomly malicious and tend to be loyal and genuine. We're like Hades from Greek mythology or Yang from Japanese mythology.

I had a friend, a Gryffindor as he labeled himself, and the second he found out I was a Slytherin, he started making jokes about how we ‘couldn’t be friends’ and ‘DONT HURT ME!’ After a LONG time of him doing these jokes (like 6 months), I finally had enough of it. Let’s just say, as of currently, he doesn’t make any Slytherin hateful jokes, nor do I make any Gryffindor hateful jokes. But, I do have to give him some credit, as I did hate a little on his House every once in a while. Mostly just comebacks from his comments on my House.

I've always been sorted Slytherin no matter what test whether it's pottermore or otherwise and reading your description I see so much of myself in those words. I also really love thinking about what other fictional characters from other universes would be in slytherin, I've always thought Edmund from the Narnia novels would be as well as Keira Knightley's character in Atonement and Katniss in the hunger games. I think something interestingabout Slytherin that you touched on is the loyalty aspect where Slytherins are very loyal but they find it hard to forgive - especially when they feel others have breached that loyalty or hurt someone they love. If anyone else has any characters from other universes they think would be Slytherins I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts!

I agree ! To me Katniss would be more of Gryffindor type (I kinda hate her character I'm sorry haha) But yeah as myself, I'm the hard forgiving type because when somebody gets my trust it's for life and when I gave my loyalty I expected people to not betray it because I'd do anything for those I love but yeah when they betray me, I have issus in matter of forgiving so yeah haha I agree with that ! I agree too with Ed being a Slytherin ! It's kind obvious and he's the definition of Slythern. But I've also always though of Sansa Stark as Slytherin. She has ambition and is always underestimated by everyone even her family; but she has so much potential. Tony Stark too from Iron Man would be Slytherin for sure !

I really hate when people say that Slytherin students are evil. And it's not because I'm one of them. Slytherin house is very ambitious, yes. And probably that is the main reason, why so many students want change. Because they see that things have to be done differently and they are not afraid of doing it. And so what that others won't understand their doings. It's good thing for them and that's all what matters. It's in their nature to want change the world. Nobody else could be capable of it if they didn't have little bit of Slytherin inside of them. Why do you think Ravenclaw never went evil in the series? They are smart, yes. They know a lot. But they don't have such a courage to make this world better. Hufflepuffs, I guess, can be really smart, but they are too good to do what has to be done. It would ruin them if people wouldn't like them. And then there's Gryffindor. Our old brave hearted Gryffindor. Gryffindor students have so much loyalty to others that they would never do anything to hurt them. And yes, it is great thing to have, but still..

I just dispise the force-fed "Slytherins are evil" gig. Yeah, Salazar was a d!ckhead, but it doesn't mean we all are. Look at Snape. He was bullied, and left behind. But not only did he keep doing his own thing, but he loved Lily with all his heart. He would kill for her, DIE for her. For someone we love, we too, would go to that extent. This is what makes us....US. And don't even get me STARTED on the Marauders. Remus was cool, Peter was ok. But James and Sirius.....just, no. They were bullies, even taking it to the point where Sirius tried to lead him to Remus in werewolf form. That could've KILLED him. Luckily, James really DID have a heart (and some sense), and saved him. At least, he could be a good person when he actually TRIED. So, I say everyone else who believes that the "Slytherins are evil" gig, are the evil ones.
