The obsession with young children is so disturbing. Why can't they just put older people in a group? We've got people in their 30s/ 40s in the U.S. still going strong. I would love to see a group of people in their mid to late 20s, even going into their 30s debuting. The stigma of older idols is so weird I can't.

Mostly because the consumers are young generation of teenages/ ppl in their 20s and early30s. If they debut too old idols in their 30s they will not sell well. Jype also tried it but wasn't very good. But debuting too youngers is not good I also agree with it. They should be atleast late teenagers of 17-19.

@ I think people in their 20s and 30s would love seeing people their age debuting, including me. Ik a lot of people would eat it up as well. I don’t think anyone who is not a legal adult should be debuting. Let them get done with school at least.

People in their late 20s and early 30s do not sustain the numbers needed for these kpop groups to do well. It’s not a coincidence as fan bases get older that their associated groups keep on declining* in sales metrics across the board and then new gen groups come out. There’s also the fact that when it comes to groups younger people generally do not keep up or feel connected to older ones. Older gen groups who do well manage to be culturally relevant in multiple ways that get younger audiences to spend their money and appear not cringy to them. I believe no one underage should be debuting but consumers prove that they only like their musical artists to have a certain shelf life before they move on to the next. *This decline in spending is based on people in their late 20s/30s do not or want to keep up with super fast pop culture changes, their financial priorities change, and many people grow out of kpop by the time that they reach those ages for various reasons.

@LP-ct9nk look, I understand the point you're making, but the problem is simply not consumers. The companies don't put effort and energy into promoting and investing into groups that grow older. If they actually did that, older groups might actually improve their numbers like Western artists are able to do. They could let their artists participate in their own art, like Western artists do as well so they wouldn't have to hire others to make music and whatnot all the time. Just melt 2 cents. If they wanted to, they would, and the groups could actually do well if the company tried.

@@Lady_bugg9316 problem is you're comparing asian culture with western culture. If we even talk abt other occupations ppl starting in their late 30s don't get new opportunities at all. Even our parents tell us to have a stable life before 30. It's almost the same in the whole Asia. Obviously I also don't agree with this type of things but it is very deeply rooted in us.

I don't think any child should be subjected as a trainee for any company until the child working laws in this field are better. Its disgusting what adult idols/trainees are going through and how unprotected they are...no child should be exposed to that.

Lmao this is so long, also just my opinion not facts. You can disagree just be respectful pls. I'm sorry but 10/9 years old is way too young. I know we have success idols/musicans that started that age or younger but they've repeatedly said that even they wouldn't want their children working in these industries so young and even as adults. Young famous idols/celebrities examples Justin bieber : 12 years old Michael Jackson: 5 years old Taemin : 14 years old Jihyo: 8 years old They all have one thing in common, reported feeling like they lost a ton of their youth, possible experiences and normalcy that other children got. I get that starting young may give you a better change at success but that's not always true, a lot a trainees start as young as Jihyo did but never get to debut. Even if they do, they often have mental health struggles, physical health issues and more. Unlike Jihyo, even debuting doesn't ensure happiness or satisfaction in the idol industry. I say we should put more pressure on parents to ensure their children don't get chewed up and spit out. Kids change their minds all the time, I used to want to be in the military, then wnba, then wwe, then a astronaut but teenage me now would never. These companies are taking advantage of the nativity, indecisiveness, and innocence of these kids and making profits off that. And the parents are allowing them to, sadly this will continue until better laws, rules and restrictions are put into place. Parents will continue to throw their kids into a ruthless industry and companies will continue to take them. I think late teens (17,18,19) should be the minimum to debut. Even better if they're older.
