It has been nothing short of remarkable that a city-state as geographically diminutive as Singapore could produce a leader of such significant stature, one who has managed to wield immense influence on the global stage. This remarkable individual has achieved this not through the exercise of brute force or the accumulation of power, but rather through the application of profound wisdom and strategic acumen.

Salute to our senior minister and ex-PM of Singapore. He is fluent in English and Mandarin. He is knowledgeable of economic, geopolitics, etc. Singapore younger generation of Chinese must make an effort to study their mother tongue language, Mandarin, besides fluency in English. They would appreciate the Chinese culture and civilisation. To be able to communicate well in Mandarin and English, the Singaporeans would have a great future ahead to trade with China and the rest of the world.

He also strategically aligned SG to U$, he is also the first ASEAN leader to come out publicly to condemn RF for the whole world to see and to show how "powerful" SG has become by simply aligning to U$ policy just like Marcos of PH. As a result SG is now on Russia's entity list and crosshair endangering the entire ASEAN community in the event of a global conflict. Singaporean must be proud that you are all aligned with the U$. Congrats, SG will now be protected by USA!

He is also fluent in Malay too (which I'm sure you know too, but just pointing it out for the folks here). I wanted to point out that this is an interview with a Chinese audience so while I agree that learning Mandarin is important, FAR MORE important AND urgent now is to revisit Malay, as Singaporeans have obviously lost our fluency with that language in one generation. I rather we sacrifice a bit of Chinese proficiency to at least have conversational Malay ability.

The speech is very honest, yet diplomatic. There is elephant in the room majority can't speak about openly. Certain race leads the world for centuries, and form an opinion there can never be other race who has the same or even higher talent, dynamic, innovative and competitive thought. Some even thought it is just how the world must be, hence the "unwritten rules based order" comes about.

Good question on gaming to increase awareness and interest in the Chinese language. Myself actually played Romance of 3 Kingdoms (the strategy game, not the first person) and got intrigued by the many characters in the game that leads me to really deep diving into the novel and actual history of the period. Through that, I discover the splendor of Chinese history and developed great interest in it.

You guys should know China lacks water. Climate change and extreme weather events exacerbated the lack of water in many countries and it will one day become a problem for China. So don’t think you can hide in some village and the problem will go away. The last time I heard the Chinese government made sure that the first tier cities like Shanghai secure their water resources while many small villages were left to fend for themselves with the dwindling water supply. That’s how water allocation will be like in bad times so I hope you will not be naive about thinking that staying in villages is the best option.

While I understand that SM has to be diplomatic about SIP, and I also appreciate the need to be sensitive to the thin-skinned CCP, from a Singaporean’s point of view, this whole SIP fiasco has a certain shroud of opacity within our local Singaporean circles. How many of us average Singaporeans are truly apprised of the true circumstances of our SIP investment? In line with PM Wong’s call for more dialogue and feedback from the citizenry, my humble question is this: is there no way for us to be more open going forward? My sense so far has been that there is too much reliance on the approach of the government signalling to us that we trust and leave the details to them. I’m sure PMO would agree that such a paternal approach is anachronistic and not conducive to our development as a nation.

Sr. Min. Lee's responses and articulation of the realities is precise and accurate from my view point. Salami slicing strategy has eroded trust. IP theft has eroded trust Intimidating smaller countries has eroded trust One-way market access has eroded trust. Other than that the CCP is doing the right things. The key word is 'restraint' something that CN's large western neighbour and equally large power-in-the making has demonstrated for generation even while being violated by brutish arab armies in pre-contemporary history making it a far more reslient society. Something that CN never had to face.

Opine, these days, the "Thucydides Trap approach" often used to describe the rivalry narratives between U.S.A and the CCP led PRChina. Perhaps, China scholars and China observers should also look into the motivations of previous 20th Century's most infamous German Dictator of the Third Reich and the comparisons of his desires for; world domination and the promotion of the Aryan race were rooted in a combination of extreme nationalism, militarism acquisition of lands and vital/essential resources .. and the distorted ideology of racial superiority to re-dress injustice and humiliations of the past.

@pgobserver254

@@ongdavid4896 Oh, so you’re wondering who gets to be the international referee, huh? It’s like having a football match where only the referee’s team gets to make the rules-yellow card, red card, and suddenly someone introduces handball just because they feel like it. Classic! But let’s break it down. The “International Order” is like an unwritten set of house rules for global politics, where the players (countries) agree not to throw food at each other during dinner-unless someone’s being a real pain. Historically, yes, it’s been shaped by a handful of powerful Western countries because, well, they managed to grab the world’s remote control first. It’s like when your cousin has the PlayStation controller and refuses to let you change the game, even though you paid for the pizza. Now, our friend here is raising a solid point: why do less than 20 countries get to decide the rules for the whole planet? With 194 countries, it’s a bit like having a family reunion where only your stingy uncle and chatty auntie decide the dinner menu. Where’s the input from the rest of the family? What about the vegetarian cousin or the aunt who loves spicy food? In theory, the international order should be more inclusive, right? But as it stands, the countries holding the biggest economic, military, and political sway-kind of like the oldest kids on the playground-are the ones calling the shots. Yet, just like in every family, the smaller voices are getting louder, asking for their turn to speak up. So, maybe it’s time for the international order to be a bit more like a buffet where everyone gets a say, and not just the people hogging the dessert station.

& what exactly hv the 2 Prof speak their minds about? The FACT & realities of the unmitigated disasters hv been highlighted by me time & again.............why these so-called Prof dun care about the country's & sinkies well being.........is it just because they, being paid handsomely, dare not speak the truth about such unmitigated disasters?

@hengbin2974 - What unmitigated disaster are you talking about? Singapore is doing well in every aspect and the people's living standards are among the best in the world. Yeah, one thing I do see the difference is now there are lots of Indians that have taken up the jobs of the local-born Singaporeans.

Either U R in Total Denial or hv been living in Mars..............I've REPEATEDLY mentioned about the epic failures bt LHL and his wife Ho Ching in their epic mismanagement of the C-19 pandemic with negative results still counting & the tens if not hundreds of BILLIONs LOSSES. If these dun constitute "unmitigated disasters" which hv cost thousands of preventable DEATHS, undue sufferings/hardships and billions of waste........eg the USELESS TT-tokens which LHL/HC hv abandoned after wasting over 100 million $, & something I'd opposed from the very beginning,. Why dun U identify yourself & we can debate at a public inquiry into such "unmitigated disasters" which have resulted from LHL & HC's arrogance, incompetence etc?

Is this Editor-in-Chief a Singaporean or China Chinese? She speaks with a strong chinese accent when speaking in Chinese but at the same time speaks Singlish. SM Lee refers to her as "you" when speaking about China yet she was supposedly educated in Singapore and presumably a Singapore citizen? What is this, so confusing lol

I find that his speech lets out the frustrations of China with USA, but kept the tone sharply down. Singapore has to be diplomatic with both China and USA as it is not in our interest or the interest of China or USA if we start bashing either.

What is your objective? Open up your eyes. Singapore also has an influx of India Indians working here under the Ceca agreement with India. Also, many of them have permanent residency and became new citizens. Singapore also has a huge number of Malaysian working here as pmets. This also includes the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Blangah workers, and pmets. Singapore welcomes talents from all over the world.

Given the FACT that almost all MNCs are packing up in the PRC, surely there must be more vacant factories in SIP after 30 yrs of SGP;s investment, what has been what I see as LOSSES SGP has suffered, NOT only in the SIP project but also other SGP-PRC projects? I see such videos as just another propaganda effort.

MNCs are not packing up in PRC; that is the narrative created by the West. Similarly, the US narrative that all the companies are packing up in Russia is also not reflective of the real situation in Russia. Part of the 160 billion US funded campaign to smear China...

Mr. LHL speaks like a representative of the US, and other Western countries. People like him and some overseas Chinese, especially from Hong Kong and Singapore who still have the Colonial Mindsets seeped deep into their minds find it fair that we Chinese should always get the shorter end of the stick to please their Colonial masters. When they are privately among the Chinese they will appear to be more vocal against the Westerners, but in public they will say just the opposite. It is sad to say that people like them are the one who have held us back in advancing and competing with the Western Imperialists.

Look at how the CCP is handling the 9 dash line issue. That is just a glimpse of what a CCP world order would look like. When DXP came to Singapore to learn and went back to China to establish the SEZ, everyone was happy to see the progress. But now with the power and wealth, the CCP is trying to play punk with various territories. Only goes to show that if the CCP becomes too big it will become an oppressive neighbour. See Tibet and Xinjiang for example

One point to note is also the debt trap that the CCP has offered the 3rd world countries. Lending other poorer countries with huge amount of amount knowing they are unable to repay and also using their Chinese companies/workers to build the infrastructure, and eventually taking over the region or project cuz the other countries won’t be able to settle their debts

@@yashsawalkar646 like their 9 dash line shenanigans, like their constant threat of invading another sovereign nation. Like their annexation and assimilation of Tibet and Xinjiang. It was never the west that is holding Chinese progress, it’s the CCP. The flood of goods into Europe/America would cause a backlash regardless of country.

Can you criticise Xi? Can you criticise the fact young people don't have jobs? Can you reject having a vaccine or wearing a mask? Do you have the ability to critically evaluate anything in China? Will CCP use face recognition, AI, automated transportation system to control your movements and even your thoughts using AI chips to transcribe all your communication, literally all the information that eves your brain and ask the outputs that you make into the world? You're a slave, an automated human like, subjugated slave who owns not even their thoughts, creativity or even your emotions.
