What happened to the Cobia? Figured you were gonna have a problem going from that sweet Suzuki on your small boat to that older Yamaha two stroke . I love my two strokes and actually have two, but you really have to stay on top of the maintenance to make them run right ,as with any outboard, but that Suzuki 4 stroke is hard to beat.

@@chuckshade7959 haha yeah very hard to go from the quiet Suzuki that starts as soon as you turn the key to the 2 stroke with all the smoke 😅 unfortunately we have not been able to figure out the over heating alarm so we really haven’t even been able to use it.

If you have replaced the water pump impeller and the housing parts look good and the thermostat? Hopefully when you had the foot down you inspected the water pickup tube and any seals for it to make sure it’s clean, I have an older merc that ran great at idle and half throttle, but at high speed would start to overheat, turns out a previous owner must’ve had a water pump impeller come apart, some of the pieces were wedged up in the powerhead. It was peeing just fine until high-speed, had to takeoff the cylinder cover and dig around the cylinders to find the blockage. impeller in there at the time looked perfectly fine so it was a previous impeller that came apart. As with any old outboard, though, be prepared for some broken bolts😁

Thank you for the information, that’s a great idea, I would need to drop the lower unit and check that pickup because I honestly didn’t do that while replacing the impeller and water pump. We have pretty much gone through the entire cooling system, cleaned all the heads, which they were bad, replaced the temp sensor, thermostats and even the poppet value. Hopefully we can figure this out, always something with boats!
