Almost every time you amaze me just by how few tools will do the job. I always watch all your videos to the end! Please never stop making videos!

Thank you, using the minimum of tools has two causes. One is that the turret on one of my lathes often does not work! The other is that I write programmes for a friend who has not quite got the hang of it himself. He has the same machine but no turret, so as he works in brass we using a parting tool for all his turning to cut down on tool changes. It is amazing what a parting tool can do if you work at it! Thanks for your comment!

Good use of an otherwise shelf clogging "keep it just in case" waste product. Bravo!..... Martin

Nice job!!! Utilizing scrap from another job puts money in your pocket!!!

Actually it was the same job, those blanks were left over from making the same parts three at a time. Was just too much scrap to ignore and I included them with the main order. Thanks for your comment

Great use of the grey cells and reducing scrap / landfill is always a good thing.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYWnaY2nn9dpgq8 is the first video of making the parts 3 at a time

Great that you got to use all that scrap up and make some useable parts.

Hi Gary, I am hardly what one would call a "Greenie" but it was nice not wasting so much plastic.

Thanks for the video. I am actually in the USA and not really lathe specific in what I watch. My primary interest is actually in anything to do with drilling and machining plastics, especially ABS, but I watch videos about them all. Attempting to move from all hand heald tools to cnc , and get chips instead of strings. Also good finishes and your finishes are very good. Thanks

Can relate to that scrap, for me stuff like this always ends up stored somewhere to use it one day. Really cool to see you make use of it right away! Appreciate your time showing us making parts with the rather oldscool Hercus lathe. You're actually one of my favorite machining channels on KZbin!

I am having to do some serious culling of left overs in my workshop. At 74 and retired, I am pretty sure I have a lot more crap than I will ever need! Hey, what is this oldschool stuff, the exe file that runs my lathe is dated 1967 so pretty recent. LOL One pc I used recently still had Duke Nukem and Jill of the Jungle on the hard drive. Thank you for the remark about liking my channel. Have you actually come across a similar channel, old small cnc lathe and making parts? According to my YT analytics other channels watched by my viewers are all Manual turning or modern cnc lathes with huge horse power available. Thanks for you comment. always appreciated.

I take it the soft jaws are sized for the finished part OD and were initially gripping the raw stock by the edges.
@smallcnclathes Жыл бұрын
Yes, but the difference was pretty marginal.

Great job! Question for you: In the first side machining, you turn the OD from back to front, but when you flip it, you machine from front to back. How do you decide which direction to machine?

Interesting observation! This may sound quite stupid, it was deliberate and just a quirk of my mind. The tool was going closer to the chuck than I have ever been before. I really did not want the suspense of watching the tool close on the chuck with each cut. So if it was going to go bang, it could do it first rather than watching and waiting for every part. Told you it was stupid, I mean it is cnc controlled and if it did not go bang first time it would not go bang the second time. There you are, you comment has revealed a look at the strange way my brain works. Thanks for your comment they are always appreciated.

What make and model is the lathe?
@smallcnclathes Жыл бұрын
