Good job on the mustang sir. I really believe your dad would be honored by how you and the mustang have come along. Keep up the great work brother. Love your Nova. Reminds me of my high school buddy who had a 72 Nova 2 door. He had his and I had my 67ss Nova. Those were good times. When I saw your and how much heart and soul you were putting into making it something it starting getting me to thinking how I would like to find one and restore in his memory. He passed in 2003 from a rare bone cancer. God rest his soul

The amount of time you guys take in producing and editing these videos is awesome. Lots of hours behind the scenes for sure. Great episode, and great tribute to your late father. Such a great story behind this car. Mean little 289, and the 50 cc kit is the ticket in big cam, low vacuum situations. Nice work - keep up it up !

VERY kool that you have your dad's car to carry on his legacy. I recently lost my dad's Corvette that he bought new almost 40 years ago due to being hit head on and being out of work for over a year. The good times that we had in his Vette will live on in my heart forever.

On a Vacuum Secondary always use a green pump cam and start with a 32 nozzle. I guarantee it wont hesitate. A 50cc pump is only necessary on Alcohol carbs or a Dominator.

You'll need to do something about the single wheel peel...one black mark just looks silly...I assume it has the 8" in it...not a lot of gears to choose from. I'd like to see you guys do the 8.8 out of an exploder when the time comes.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. It's difficult to tell in the film but the hesitation was at only like 1/4 throttle which is well before the secondaries start opening.

My Holley 750 just experienced the same trouble the front and rear bowl on the top of the carburetor have the two screws when you back them out it's the actual needle to allow gas in and out of the float bowl your actual float boul isn't receiving enough gas inside of it so that when the pumps running you have response but if you were to shut the fuel pump off and start it the vehicle won't run it all it'll act like it's out of fuel when actually it should run for a minute then the float bolt run out of gas your front and rear float bowl needles for the float are most likely not adjusted properly or the o-rings on them two are bad I just went through it on my carburetor on the very top of the front and rear the float bowl is too big flat screws on top of carb it allows the float needle to be higher or lower the needle so that it allows more gas in the bowl it sounds like yours are turned all the way in turn them a 8th turn out and then turn the nut that's underneath of them tight to the carburetor and that'll allow more gas in the bowl shut the fuel pump off start the car if it stalls immediately in acts like it's not got any gas then turn fuel pump on fire it if it runs but has hesitation and it's definitely the float bowl adjustments the needles just fix the same problem yesterday hope this helps you guys kurt

my dad would say, Ill fix it, but itll be stock
@timothymilam7324 жыл бұрын
Why not take it through the progression he would have, as just few clips of his past, seems like he always moved forward with the times. Where as in the early 2000's, big carbs, big cams, decent power, but well above stock, and kinda retro was the thing to do. Just as a lot of us older ones were doing, kinda replaying our younger years for some, and for others, what they had always wanted to do. Plus we were still not impressed by the fuel injection, as it was mostly things that sorta looked like carburetors, but weren't, and not that impressive as far as we knew about making power. We did know how to do it with the combination your dad put together, even if he didn't build it himself, but he knew what he wanted . Whether it was fomoco, GM, are Dodge, they were still using the old school technology in the things most of us drove as far as engine designs. The trucks a whole lot of us drove, sorta had throttle bodies, with ford and dodge having odd shaped intakes, but chevy still had a lot of vortex engines running around, with normal intakes, and fake wanna be carbs. Yet the piece of cast iron below the manifolds, was old school, and with a little work, ran much better with aluminum intakes, carbs, headers, and dual exhaust if you could get by epa bs. Then LT, LS, DOHC's, and sorta Hemi's came into play, all with real fuel injection that was working, that natural progression I believe would of caught his attention. Especially, since we are older, and ethanol came into play, we don't mind fixing things once in a blue moon, but EFI, is so much friendlier to deal with ethanol, carbs not so. After replacing diaphragms, seals gaskets, needles jets, and some metering blocks because ethanol was eating our prized Holleys up, literally with in weeks after rebuilding, are replacing these expensive dinosaurs. A lot of us seen the light, and switched over to the once dark side, and now once more, we can go out to the shop, garage, wherever we keep them. Turn the key, and if batteries are hot, we go do whatever we do with our toys, but at the age we've made it to, bending over a vehicle every weekend, isn't the endless fun it once was. Not saying some of us don't enjoy doing such things, are building one up, but just fighting bs issues over an over, is more irritating, even with a few cold snacks with the old crew, not what we want to deal with. Sorry for the long read, but I didn't know how else to make it to where you could see his possible natural progression, and if you two were working on such things together, it's possible that he stayed true to our old ways too. I was just sharing what some, not all of us older ones have finally come around to, and offering it up to you, as a possible route to take. Yes I watched you two for some time, not far behind your first one have I been here, and so I know what you two youngsters have been up to. I seen myself several times in one or the other at times, and I see the old ways are still strongly embedded in your methodology, and mindset, for which I am glad you keep the old ways alive for everyone. Thank you both for that, and you two surely give some of us not so young ones some good laughs, and bring a few old stories back from the cobwebs too of the times one or more did something, are luck bite them accordingly.

Not that I know anything about anything but: *ensure there's no vacuum advance at idle because if there is then the when you floor it then the ignition will retard causing a bog *despite what KZbin experts tell you* remember I'm a nobody and don't know anything so my advice is more likely than not to be better than the experts *with the timing set, vac disconnected and plugged adjust the idle mixture via this method - set the throttle stop screw so the motor idles. Screw in mixture screw until it starts to lower in rpm then unscrew it until the rpm rises to the highest speed, then unscrew it a further half turn. Repeat this for all the idle mixture screws THEN reset the throttle stop screw if necessary and repeat the process. You see idle mixture is very important because it doesn't just control idle it controls idle to main metering circuit transition in the area the flat spot or bog was occurring. *also check the power valve isn't leaking

I'm no "you tube" expert as u call it ...but I run manifold vacuum on a few of my motors and they run like a top... if your "flooring" it then if your advance springs are set up right there's not even enough time for it to "retard" the advance as your saying... you have to remeber ported vacuum was only used to help the engine heat up the emissions equipment with a dirty exhaust.... stop spreading crappy advice

no the new Holley black accelerator pump diaphragms are not non ethanol compliant. They haven't made those in 15-20 yrs. Before ethanol fuel had MTBE and it's just as bad on gaskets and diaphragms. So many people bash ethanol but it's no where as bad as methanol. I see SOOOO much wrong ideas on tuning here. Sooooo much wrong. A small engine with huge heads supposedly and cam BUT a horribly restrictive dual plane intake. Talk about crutching a completely messed up setup. AND not researching just what's going on with it. Since you have zero knowledge of internals I would have dug in, and sis some disassembly to investigate just what's going on. Also if you don't know what cam is in it then how do you reset valve lash regularly?
