Yes, the Luvias reels are now being made in China, but the older ones were made in Japan. I was surprised when I found this out too. A Japanese friend of mine said that one reason the Presso had less resistance is that they removed the Magseal. I had the Magseal removed on my Luvias (a bit expensive), but it did totally change the feeling. Now the Luvias feels closer to the Vanford in terms of low resistance.

The new Presso was on my list, but I didn't find any reviews on it to hear the drag clicker was more louder than before. Sounds to be the same. Glad I went shimano.

My gekkabijin x lt has the same handle and although it’s different than all my other daiwa handles like my exceler and my kage, it brings certain delicatessen to it. It reminds me a little of the vanquish. I don’t really have much of a problem with it twisting in my hands, but its definitely not as secure as other daiwa handles. Also that sunline looks so beautiful. Respect for not accepting any deals with line brands so you can provide us the unbiased content you always do. Get well soon!

I was very surprised that you bought the new Presso since you originally felt the new Presso reel was cheapened. It looks like I'm going to have to send you the Kastking Zephyr 1000 SFS as a housewarming gift before you review it. Also, the Daiwa Gekkabijin lines are the same. The only fluorocarbon line I ever use is the Sunline FC Basic ( 300 meters/$10 on Ali). Good to have you back on the screen

I bought a 17 Presso a couple months before Daiwa announced this reel. At first I was disappointed thinking I should've waited and got this one. Now, I think I made a good choice. Also, you've gotta get yourself one of those JDM Presso rods. I have both the basic V and the AGS one and they're very nice rods.

@@ifishcatfish You and Randy have way more experience with and knowledge about these rods. These are my only two JDM rods. I don't think they're too stiff, especially since I have them in XUL, but I don't have anything to compare them to. They're definitely less stiff than any other UL I have from the US market.

I had the same experience with kastking fluro 4 pound test. I have been using sunline exclusively for over three years now. Why is your sunline subcategorized as “shooter” If you have an Amex card. Look for the Amex fifty perfect points coupon for Amazon. I use that on Amazon and stock up on large spools on sunline bringing the price down 50 percent and that’s my inventory for this and next year

When using saying varivas mono...that only comes in 100m spools...do you just back it with cheaper line...such as you said kastking?

doesn't have to be cheap. Sometime i just leave 20 meters from the previous line that was on the spool, when i replace it. Usually on the bottom its the same line, but older. But anything will work

I try very hard to explain what is better and what is worse in each reel. One is quieter and smoother and cheaper, but the other has less resistance. Just watch that part of the video again and think what is more important for you. Aesthetics are also of different importance to different people.

i don't use mono for jigging.. it is hard to feel anything at all. If you are gona jig go for fluorocarbon or ester line. If you MUST use mono, i recommend Varivas Twitchmaster or any of their other monos, as they have very little stretch...

I would get some copper paint and fill the spool Presso logo. I know it's possible but don't know the process. The Chinese have a way of screwing products up. I have an older Daiwa from Viet Nam and it is extremely well made. I feel that they deserved the right to make high-end Daiwa spinning reels.

Hi Brother, I was trying to find a way to send you a message through a personal message since I have a question about drag washers and not in particular under a video so that's why I'm gonna place my question in one of your most recent vids. First of all thanks for all the videos you made. I've shown many of my fishing friends your review if they wanted to purchase any of the reels you made a vid of just so that they have another in-depth-perspective. I did too when I decided to have a Vanquish. Now, since you have a lot of user experience and know how to describe your in-depth perspective real good, what do you think about carbontex dragwashers compared to Shimano's stock washers? Let's say in this case on a Shimano Vanquish 2500. Would it be good to change from their stock to carbontex? What are your thoughts? Thanks again!

No, absolutely not. I would not put Carbontex in any ultralight reel, and i personally would not put it in a 2500 size reel either. Carbontex feels hard and rough. Yes, provides more stopping power, but who needs stopping power in ultralight reel? Carbontex is more for saltwater fishing in my opinion, where u can hook one fish and it can smoke you, and after a few months you just need new washers. In freshwater i don't see the need. I need to make a video about this, because Carbontex was born years ago when daiwa and shimano used to put felt in their larger size reels, and in those reels you would benefit from carbon. But today daiwa and shimano don't use felt in large reels, except some very cheap models. And every chinese reel comes full of carbontex washers out of the factory... so today i see no need for carbontex washers, except for replacing washers if u fish saltwater, like a said..

So that being said I completely agree on that it’s not needed for light finesse fishing. Speaking of light finesse and Vanquish. What do you think about using Vanquish in a larger model. I know they provide a 4-5000 model but why or when should you use this kinda model for finesse? Or is it just a supply for the people who want’s a very finesse reel on their bigger tackle? I immediately start to question wether a 4-5000 Vanquish would be suitable for the more heavier fishery? Will it withstand those explosives takes of bigger fish on the long term or should you say if you want to go “heavier” go to a Twin Power?

@@ifishcatfish Is it just me or are reels from Digitaka always dry feeling? Have recently purchased 2 Twin power XD's (C3000HG and C5000XG), 1 Twinpower FD (2500S), 1 Exsense (C3000MHG), and 1 Luvias airity (2000SH) and they ALL were super dry/feel ungreased... The worse by far is the TP FD feels grainy, second Luvias airity raspy and noisy, the XD's are ok but both very noisy and not that smooth, the Exsense is the only one that is acceptable but still doesn't feel anywhere near as smooth as the same reel in my local tackle shop, have you experienced anything similar?

I've only purchased 2 reels from them in the past but both were perfect and as smooth as they should be, I wonder if thats why Plat is slightly more expensive... Only thing I hate about Plat is the waiting time. And yea I definitely wouldn't be getting an Exist from digitaka 😂, I hear Japan lure shop is pretty good, just a waiting game with stock.

I agree the old Presso LTD is a better looking reel. When i saw the new Presso was based off the Luvias body- it was a no go for me. I dont like that large chrome butt cap. It's like Daiwa put a baboon's butt on these reels. It just sticks out too far. I'm not a fan of the tiny Daiwa finesse knobs either. My biggest complaint is that there is no knob cap on it. Water and dirt can easily get into the bearings. Its like a knob from a reel from 1985 or something.

now that you said it, i see it already, even though i haven't fished it yet. And this reel is not only a pain, but dangerous to disassemble. U can't remove parts easily to paint them.. But even then, the painter I am, i will somehow manage to make it look worse than chrome.. "CHROME" - just typing this is painful. What's chrome got to do with a Presso reel?
