My Amazon store for all kinds of goodies
www.amazon.co....
I have built this small timber frame extension to a garage to house a new mains water storage system on a farm.
This is a typical day in the life of a modern carpenter, I use my knowledge of 35 years to think, design and build this structure on site. A carpenter has a very varied working life and has to be able to turn their hand and mind to all types of application and building situation on a regular basis, this is partly what I love about my chosen career but the weather! well you cant have it all!!
Thanks for watching my video and please share with your friends if you like it and subscribe

You're dead right there. I don't think a lot of people really understand how difficult it can be talking into a camera and articulating confidently what your trying to say. A lot of his earlier videos are all done in one take, with no editing whatsoever, and they are excellent. (being good at something is one thing, being able to explain it to others is another). I think he should be called Robin, 'one take', Clevett!!. 🤣

As you asked in Part 2, legionella is controlled if the water is below 20 deg C (and over 50 C). Problem is, in the summer the supply can approach 20 C so you can't afford for it to get much warmer, hence the insulation. If it gets too marginal, the answer is to reduce the stored water level so it is refreshed with a higher % of fresh to keep it cool. That's why. Cheers. Great content as ever.

Great video really interesting and helpful! One idea I think for a video that would be good would be a guide on what size timber and what size and type of nail or screw to use for different situations, this would especially help people like me looking to build a shed or something similar but are unsure what size nails to use for the stud work and the rafters

yes I know, had to look away, especially as a few years ago a chippy doing 2nd fix went 1/2 through his forearm, grazed the bone. Blood everywhere, lucky he didn't lose it. Always swap hands or move saw now though not all chop/mitre saws operate well left handed so was a key feature when I bought my latest saw last year.

Water in a tank in the UK getting too hot. I now live in Qld Australia but originated in Kent UK. I really live in the middle of nowhere hard to do in the UK. In all rural areas such as I live in nobody has town water at all it either falls out of the sky or you buy it by the tanker load. Everyone is on tank water and pumps for everything. You either have plastic tanks no insulation. Tin tanks no insulation or concrete tanks no insulation. They sit in full Aussie sun in temps up to 50C and everything below to the point we often have two hot taps. We use the water for everything there is nothing else. 35 degree min for plains ? When back in Kent I probably did nearly as much roof tiling as carpentry. I wouldn't worry about plains down to about 25 degrees and we have used them below that. Felted underneath never usually a problem. Same with Old Kents. If you look at some of the old Tudor style buildings with the huge cat slide pitches at the bottom they can be 10 to 15 degrees. and they sort of worked corked up originally with hay and later lime mix. Underlaid with modern felt we would strip and put them back no worries. Merging two pitches pretty easy up to 5 degrees difference as you can juggle the guages on the two pitches to get them to run around. Up to 10 degrees can be done in this way and after that you have to put what we used to call a pig tile in to fudge the courses. Your perfectionism will make it so easy for the roofer. Every trade would love to follow behind you because their work is cut in half.

Hi Robin! First of all I'm really enjoying your videos, it's very inspiring to see how you work! I have a detail question for you, I'm planning to build a garden room and I'm used to use screws. But for the size of work I want to use nails this time because I see it works much faster. Now the question, I see you use 45mm timber for the frame, and fix them with 3 nails. What length and diameter do you use? And also what material, steel/ galvanized steel? I hope you can reply. Keep up the nice work, and videos! Kind regards, Patrick (the Netherlands 🇳🇱)
