Just found you this evening as I was taking a break from my project. I'm converting a hall closet into a pantry and I'm ticked off at the irregular walls. Seeing you show us that nothing is regularly sized calms me down. I'm using free shelves, $3 fir strips, a cheap Harbor Freight drill, and a jig saw to do this. I was concerned about the water lines in one of the walls but my house is old so doubt I can poke a hole in those metal water lines. BTW, I'm a single, 62-year-old female DIY'er who loves watching brilliant people creating stuff on YT. Thank you for posting!!

Good build. Although not part of the original plan, I would have put in a water line/spigot for the coffee and tea machines since you already had the wall opened up due to the unforeseen waterline issue. Not a big deal since it wasn't part of the original design. I know it's not that far to the kitchen to get the water, but I would look for opportunities to kick it up a notch as long as it doesn't cost too much.

The problem in America, depending on where you live, is that many of us don't have easy access to a grocery store. Many of us, including our friend here, live in either traditional suburbs or planned communities, in either case grocery stores usually are not convenient to where we live so we have to drive, sometimes long distances, to reach the store, this is why American homes tend to have a lot of food stuffs on hand since it's easier to stock up once a week or so instead of making daily trips to a store.

I have a pantry about that size-- maybe a bit narrower though. Got one of those rolling metal rack shelves on the left and built in shelves on the right. Door also has shelves and is heavy. I like the layout of the kitchen. Yikes. The drilling through waterlines is something that would happen at my house or my best friend's house. I do like that you show where things go wrong bc it really does set in the reality of how things don't always go as planned-- which is usually what happens when my best friend and I work on projects. Things will break or not cut, even when we are following the instructions to the letter. Awhile back I had an outdoor waterline break (it serves an automatic water trough for my cows). I needed to put on a shutoff and replace the broken part. But water wouldn't stop coming out of the pipe. So, I went to the main water shutoff (I have a well system so its in a shed). I was trying to get the shutoff to turn but it was stuck and I fell on top of the pipes (which were PVC) and broke them. It got too cold to use the PVC cement for a few days (stores were out of the all weather stuff). I was already having issues bc my left deltoid was electrocuted by a cracked induction cooktop (it electrified the pan and zapped me hard). I really feel for you watching the tiles fall apart. I wonder if there is some way to carefully score it first. Man, I wish my walk-in pantry had enough space for appliances. This ended up looking great!

I feel you on the water line issue. When we replaced the baseboards in our dining room we nailed through a copper pipe that goes to the waterline to our refrigerator on the other side of the wall. Took forever to get that thing sealed up. I think we went through about four different solutions before it finally held. Then of course we had to patch and paint the hole in the wall that we had to cut to figure out what was leaking.
@tylerpeterson8857 Жыл бұрын
One thing I do about plexiglass is since I’m a regular at Lowe’s and Home Depot, as I assume you are. I ask an associate if they have scraps from others cutoff and usually the people that get stuff cut there don’t take scraps and I’ve gotten lucky with some pretty large pieces. Most of the time since they are trash I get them for free but sometimes you have that one manager that will charge usually no more than $5.

Could be wrong, but for brittle tiles like porcelain, I think you're better off with a smooth disk, unlike the diamond disks that have "grooves" along the edges. those create vibrations and caused you your issue. Water is a good tip, but it needs to be the good disk.
