I live in St Pete area as well..looking to buy land to shoot rifles when I feel like it. Wondering if that’s something that ppl do out here or is it treated like a nuisance etc ?

We do, but try to communicate and be considerate of the neighbor who lives in front of my property.

You mentioned that you had success hunting out of a ground blind with your sons, I have also had success hunting with my son out of a ground blind. On calm days I think a ground blind helps contain your scent from just drifting in the area. I have had some deer come very close to our ground blind I had never hunted with a ground blind until hunting with my son. I live in st Pete also.
