Grafting is simply the process of transferring larva from the worker cell of the breeder's hive to an artificial queen cell. The shape of the cell, along with the queenless condition of the hive receiving the newly grafted cells stimulates the workers to feed them a diet which make them develop into queens.

Your eyes are better than mine; I need glasses with bi-focals when I graft, lol.

So far I have been fortunate with the good eyesight. Sometimes I use my wife's glasses but usually have headache after grafting hehe

What race of bees do you keep? And what type of genetics do you focus for your girls? Thanks for posting!

I try to get as close as possible to Slovenian Carnica lineage. They are very gentle, overwinter good in cold climate, excellent honey production and rapid spring buildup

@@silverlakeadventure Thank you so much for your reply! From where did you purchase your Slovenian Carniolan Queens? I purchased some of Sue Cobey's New World Carniolan (NWC) Queens and I love them! Have you ever tried any of the NWC Queens yourself? This season, I'd like to incorporate some Caucasian genetics into my girls. If you have any leads on a good Caucasian supplier, I'd love to hear your thoughts on that too! Thanks again!

Slovenian Carnica is Old World Carniolan Queens but you can't get them directly from Slovenia. Sue Cobey's NWC are the closest thing. Very good Queens I am very pleased with them.

So ive tried grafting a few times. The first time i messed up cause i placed the grafted queens in a queened hive. The second time Im not sure what happened. The third time only thing i could think i did wrong is maybe im not supplying this queenless hive with bee patty or a 1:1 ratio sugar water to help them out. Would love some input

I would say just keep trying don't give up. If you follow all the steps in these queen rearing videos you'll have no problem making queens for your own apiary
