People can't really tell you that your prices are too high when they have no clue what the market is in your area... Just like the housing market, it's completely and totally different EVERYWHERE. In Texas, property is dirt cheap compared to California or Maine. It's just the same with antique stores/thrift stores/craft booths. So, you should do exactly what you described and check local prices, then determine what you put into the item including your cost, your time to drive and shop, your gasoline, any other products that you use to upcycle it, and the time it takes to upcycle the item. So, there are a ton of variables and every location is going to be different. You seem to have a very reasonable way of figuring out what you'll charge. Also, I just wanted to say that your projects are ALWAYS absolutely STUNNING and actually look high end vs many others that do not. Some things people put on KZbin really make me go hmmm 🤔 anyway, keep doing what you are doing and rocking KZbin! You'll be a super ⭐ faster than you think ❤❤❤

You're correct about the baking soda... It's completely and totally different! Salt wash also dries hard as a rock and is super duper durable where as baking soda can flake off and isn't archival like the salt wash is... To each their own though! 🤪

You are an amazing creator, Tina! Thank you for sharing your behind the scenes video and your secrets to making beautiful things. I have MS and can’t always find my words either. Some months I still don’t make my rent.😞 I’m trying hard to work it more and I have much fall stuff so hopefully I can increase my sales. I learn so much from you. Please keep the tips coming. Thank you, Tina for offering your customers items for less than $10.00. At most maker's malls it's hard to find something for less than $50.00, and their items are no better than yours, and a lot of times they're nowhere near as good as yours. I was at one 2 weeks ago and there were two booths at least that were selling things straight off Temu as handcrafted or vintage. Perfume bottles, little shelves and cabinets, jadeite and a few other things. At huge markups.
@Tinawilliams77718 күн бұрын

Hi!!!!! So happy to have you to learn from. My 1st question is:.....The closest Painted Tree to me is about 50 minutes from me. I've been there 2xs and the cashiers never have any idea where I should look for the booths that I came to see. They always seem to be confused about how to find them. I'm certain that this is unusual but it's happened 2 separate times......should I just move on and for get about it?
@Tinawilliams77720 күн бұрын
They seem to have a lot of turnover. I doubt they know. It’s just young part time people for the most part. Two of my locations are good another not so much.
@tracyg466022 күн бұрын
I generally make my rent by about the same time on $5 rings and $1.00 earrings. I get them all from temu. It gives me time to craft and find bigger things to sell.
@Tinawilliams77722 күн бұрын
Good idea. I definitely need items I don’t make to sell that are in the under five dollar range.
@tracyg466022 күн бұрын
They go crazy over those rings. I usually sell 1-3 a day. @@Tinawilliams777

Thank you Tina. Just starting out on this journey and learning so much from creators like you. Appreciate your wisdom and insight and great tips. I'm considering purchasing some wholesale items . Would you please suggest some wholesalers I might consider that don't require such high minimums?
@Tinawilliams77718 күн бұрын
Honestly most of my wholesale stuff doesn’t sell well. Go to Faire it’s an app they have a lot of wholesale stuff on there. I am trying to not buy that much whole sale if I can avoid it. Most of my wholesale is paint and IOD. the rest just sits until I discount it greatly. Retro does sell.

When you make the teacup candles do you glue the cup and saucer together?
@Tinawilliams77717 күн бұрын
No I figure if someone wants to use them later they can just reuse without candle.

Now I feel even WORSE about myself than I did before I watched this! I make small furniture - decorative benches to display items and I also make wooden votive holders, pumpkins and the like. I have sold NOTHING. I have a garage FULL of stock - and my prices are basically at cost since NO ONE is buying anything. I literally cannot GIVE stuff away and you have three booths? OMG. I guess I'll just start a bonfire and toss everything in.
@Tinawilliams77713 күн бұрын
I sell at Painted Tree locations I think it’s a different kind of customer that goes there. It may have nothing to do with you but where you’re trying to sell your stuff.
@cuervojones488913 күн бұрын
@@Tinawilliams777 yeah, the rent there is too high and nobody I know is making rent in that place. I go to all of the local craft shows and nobody is buying. It's just depressing and disheartening.

So could you use salt? Maybe epsom salt.
@Andrea_Make-it-your-own23 күн бұрын
Salt wash is more similar to quality gesso; epsum salt wouldn't work imo 😊
@PaigeNicoleKomar23 күн бұрын
Actually you can use pickling salt and put it through a food processor... It is VERY close to the same that way. Look up Diedre with Our Upcycled Life and she has a DIY salt wash recipe... However, I really suggest that you invest in the salt wash with this fine lady. You can get a teeny tiny can to try out that's very cost effective and it goes a LONG WAY! Hope this helps ❤

I have no issue with saving money trust me. But I just don’t feel baking soda gives the same texture nor help the paint stick as well.
@Tinawilliams77719 күн бұрын
People can use what they want I just know what works for me. I have never tried salt epsom salt but I think it would have much more texture.
