Translation: According to legend, this is how the city of Duderstadt got its name. Two guys were arguing about who should name it. One guy said "You give the name to the city." Then the other guy said, "No, YOU give the name to the city." This went on until they both agreed on "Duderstadt," (which comes from the German Gib [du-der-Stadt] den Namen). And that's how the city got its name.

Flammkuchen: Very historical part of Germany, it's traditionally a French-German dish from Alsace (Elsass), Saarland, Baden and Pfalz. That's the French-German border now, but over the centuries in particular Alsace used to switch "ownership", French/German. Saarland only did that twice I believe. The long-time French influences are obvious in those regions. In German stores Flammkuchen is often called Elsässer Flammkuchen.

It's a quiet, but very active outdoor community. It's also very heavily patriotic, as there are quite a lot of retired US veterans that live here. When I was 13 my family and I emigrated to Sydney, Australia, (population 5,200,000) where I still live. I don"t know if I have a preference really. I guess, as Phil said, small towns are better for retirees and maybe raising families, larger cities are better for younger people and work opportunities (my Dad worked in Hamburg, about 30 minutes by train away from Winsen).

I would favor a "best of both worlds" Stadt am Rhein, such as Koblenz, and try to live walking distance from Hbf. From Koblenz you can have fast access to Mainzhattan, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Heidelburg, Karlsruhe, Bonn, Köln und/oder Dusseldorf via schnell train. You would have excellent access to many cities to explore and make videos about and not be too far from Duderstadt if you have friends or family there.

I can understand that you’d like a bigger city for now. As an American, I am a sucker for all the history. As a new country, we don’t have that. Flammkuchen, does that translate to flame cakes? Looked delicious. We lived in a teeny tiny village of maybe 1500. One gasthaus and that was about it. I played clarinet in the local Musikverein. The Germans attempted to teach me German and they wanted to practice their English with me. Such fond memories. Would love to go back and see my old friends again...
