As someone who is going to grad school for public history/museum studies, I love to see this. Local history is just as if not a bit more important than certain “bigger” historical topics.

So glad you're back on that side of KS! 😊 I lived in Baxter Springs over 40 years before moving to Wichita. Each time we'd got to KC, we would stop at one of the Civil War battleground sites, or other historical site. The area around Mound City is littered with history! Looking forward to more videos from this area! Great job, as usual!

Always strange to wonder why the actual mounds are not mentioned. Or barely mentioned in the area..Louis and Clark speak of the Blue mound, and there are others in and around the towns down in that area. They are huge.

The state's Civil War history has always been interesting to me, the state had such a big impact on the war, including the starting of the war in the first place, and the war had a big impact on the state.

One of the old buildings that I love when traveling around the small towns of the Midwest are the old County Courthouses. Such grand and stately buildings they are! The differences due to date of construction, funds available, the designer, and the surrounding territory were all factors that went into their end appearance. I could just go county to county where they have maintained the old courthouse and walk all around and through each one. They definitely keep the history of the county alive. Thanks for stopping by and picking us up for another great trip.

2:38 It's cool that a city of less than 1,000 has (or at least had) an Opera House! I'm guessing opera was a much bigger deal back then.

Kansas is still close to its past. I remember taking my daughter to Daddy- Daughter dance in Leawood, which is a very wealthy suburb of Kansas City. I was the oldest man there. I was also the only one who grew up with indoor plumbing. These guys were in their late 20s and '30s.

Many of the neighbors in the farming community I grew up in had indoor plumbing. But up until I was in the fourth grade, I still had to make my way to the outhouse. Come winter, I would try to "hold ut" until I fot ro school. Some of my city girl cousins didn't really care to come visit the farm. The city boy cousins thought it was great to just wander over behind a building. I know you g ones today who do not even use a porta potty. What fin it would be to take them back to that 1950's Iowa farm!

My city was founded in 912AD. It's the oldest city in my country. I'm always amused at how new American cities are, in comparison.

We are definitely a very young country in comparison, but what I always find interesting is all of the attempts at creating these towns as our country expanded westward. Many failed and many are in their last decades. Such a large and diverse country.

I live here you don't really want to move here unless you really enjoy being bored crazy, The cities about an hour and 20 and the closest shopping is 30 minutes. In fort Scott. It's mostly elderly people therefore there's a lot of death and that gives you nothing to look forward to but your own all the time. I can definitely understand why children get in trouble and small town. I guess if you like a lot of hayrides and mud bogging and farming😅 and 4-H I guess you could be okay here
