Such a wonderful 'reminder'. Thank you very much. I had the priviledge to live in the outskirt of White Deer and attending White Deer High School from 1976-1977 as an AFS exchange student. Still being in touch with my second host family - and still very grateful. Thank you for producing this portrait.

I grew up in Cimarron KS but also lived next to Highway 50 in Lenexa Ks and Arlington VA. Really fun to see the tiny towns that were commonplace names for us in western Kansas when I was young.

Joe, a little less caving in , neglected houses, and more of the nicer end of town with better roads would be nice for me. Kansas was just pastures, i guess that is how they all end up. Like the drone work.

Great video. We moved to White Deer in 2021 from New Zealand to build hot rods in the home of the hot rod. We work out of the White Deer Motors building. It is a great town and we are fortunate to call it home.

We've lived here about a year now and I've always wondered about those hot rods I see there! My dad built hot rods when I was little in our home town in Arkansas. I grew up helping him in his shop! Those are so cool!

The sad part of small town USA is when kids grow up and go to college there is nothing at home to make a living.

Nearly all my family is from that area, if not that town itself. My family had a cafe there from the 1950's till about the 2010's. Fewer and fewer of them remain. That screen printing shop downtown belongs to my uncle. I got a lot of love for Waynoka. I really wish I had tons of funds to do something there a bit like what you might find in Gruene TX.

White Deer has a second cemetery, south west of town on County Road Y, about a mile-ish south of town. It’s a neat little cemetery too, lots of interesting & old headstones.

I just started planning a trip to drive Route 66 from Los Angeles to Chicago in April 2026. Your video helped me fill in a lot of areas that I would have missed. I was also surprised to learn that Route 66 actually ends at Mel's Drive-In. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this informative video. I can't wait to get on the road.

That’s funny because I’ve tried to respond to as many comments as I can through the years. But I have another job besides YT that has filled up all my free time since this video came out. I probably get 200+ comments daily across all the videos and it’s impossible to keep up.

As an ignorant Aussie, I don't know much about the trek of the pioneers but after watching your amazing, fantastic video, I'm keen to learn more. Seeing the kind of terrain they had to contend with, it's amazing the mortality rate was as low as it was however I wonder how many marriages were intact by the time they got to Oregon city. The endurance and optimism that fuelled them must have been unceasing. Truly amazing stuff. If you can recommend a decent book about the journey the pioneers took to kick off my reading (there are so many), it would be appreciated. Thanks so much for this wonderful artifact.

If you’re wanting first hand accounts of The Oregon Trail there are lots of good books (or so I’ve heard because I haven’t read them). For this trip I used the guide by Moon books.

Awesome video!!! Russell Stover was born up in Osborne County close to the town of Alton, KS. There is a historical sign where his home used to be way out in the middle of nowhere. Also, in the cemetery that you were in, if you would have continued north on the main road and followed it to the end and turned east you would have the historical grave marker of 2 county police officers that were killed in the line of duty - interesting story on the marker.

Right on ! I have a quaint country place, 14 miles north of Council Grove. Don't live there yet, but I'm about to get the plumbing and heat restored in the house. Let me know if you want to 'crash' for a while. It would be just you and your crew. The 80 acres bumps up to the Federal Wildlife Reserve at the Council Grove Federal Reservoir. It's 'criitter paradise'. We'll have a RV hook-up within the year.

This was breathtaking with the snow, blue skies, and old buildings.....really gorgeous. I haven't been up there since high school, and im sure I didn't appreciate it then the way I will now, so ought to head up there.....and didn't know about the greyhound museum, but it would be worth the drive just to go give that sweet puppy a hug! The KS Department of Tourism ought to pay you to show your content - how many of us watch your videos and then want to go to each place you've gone? 😊😊 Lots of us, I think!

The big thing you left out was the Seelye Mansion. You showed it at the end. ( Big White House on Buckeye) It is really worth the time to see. I know of no where else you can tour a house for 1903, I think, that has all it's original furnishings. I spent 60 years in Abilene. It was a great little town growing up in the 60s and 70s. Grew up a 1/4 mile for the NGA. I can remember when they ran live rabbits for the coursing. Not a lot of the little town left now days. Kind of sad really, but everything changes I guess.
