I envy the nice gravel drive. You did a nice job with that drive. Mine is 4" minus road base pushed into red clay over the last 50 years. I need scarifiers and patience to get the gravel mobile again and then level out the holes and wash board.

You're getting a lot better dragging that Land Plane. Sure works better in dry-ish material. Gravel roads and driveways washboard like that when people use too much throttle on them. That ATV was probably a major culprit.
@TonysTractorAdventure

I'm not sure what caused it. They bought the house recently.

@@TonysTractorAdventure When I worked for the FS in Montana most of our roads were gravel. It is well known in places with gravel roads what causes washboards. Too much speed and too much throttle. When you put too much foot into it the tire spins up little mounds. There was always a bad washboard going up hills because people would apply too much foot getting up the hill. Also, the inside of the curve was always much worse. We would have to blade the roads a couple times a year so people could drive more than 5 mph without shaking their fillings out.

@@TonysTractorAdventure Everything is great here now, and hopefully, everything is great with you all too! I am looking forward to some time off as Wednesday will be a very short day, and I don’t have to return to work until the 3rd of January! We now have a new grandbaby, and that is lucky number 7, and I am sure he will be the last grandchild because my son and daughter have taken steps to ensure no more babies. Anyway, you both are working hard to make your place beautiful, and Lisa and I love watching your videos. Until next time, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and may God bless your days the way He always blesses ours!

Nice job on the driveway. Not any kind of expert here but my feeling on sizing a land plane is based off of a box blade, where you want the box blade to be at least as wide as your tractor, to just a little wider, then take that width and add 1 foot, this is the size of the Land Plane you want. This is assuming you have the middle of the road HP tractor for the frame size. If that frame size has 3 or 4 different HP engines and you go with the highest HP, you can likely add 1 foot to the box blade (over the width of the tractor) and then 1 more foot for the LP. The tricky part is when you have a larger frame 25hp tractor, especially if you use spacers on the wheels for stability, you will likely struggle in un-ideal conditions with a box blade just wider than the tractor and the same with a 1 foot wider LP. It looked like the tractor was happier on that "drier" gravel today compared to the wetter clay/gravel mix you were doing at your property (going up hill) in the last video. I think that fits with what should be expected, but un any case, you got both jobs done well. Have a good one!!

We got this land plane for our 48 horsepower tractor but I sometimes use it on the smaller tractor like for this job. I had the back of one of the t474 so it was just easier to put it on the T25.

I'm a boxscraper user. I prefer the compact size of the boxscraper and have more time with a boxscraper over a land plane. I have tricks to spread the material thinly when blading a drive. Or I use my ABI TR3 Rake to rip, spread & level.

No intended criticism here, I didn’t see that the washboard got ripped out, or is the plane heavy enough to cut it? I used a boxblade with the rippers just a bit below the front cutting edge. Then I run back and forth until the washboard is cut up. Then with the matls loose, it makes the smoothing and compacting last. Either way, it does look good. I do miss my long gravel driveway

The land plane is 600 pounds. I cut the ripples off on the first few passes. I then back filled gravel. It is not my choice of gravel for a drive, but it was what the owner had.
@HerkCC

Looks like it was laid to thick when tailgated. Looks almost like it could have been box bladed first. I do like the overall width of the landplane as it covers your tracks very well. You did a really nice job!!
