If only Americans could feel the same way. That despite our troubles and worries, we are a free and happy people. If we had that same kind of pride in our culture, the whole country would be greater. We don't even live under a communist regime. We have every reason to be proud. And yet, we are so privileged we complain about the little things. Americans love to complain about our first-world problems, as if everything we have means nothing, and as though millions of people didn't die to make our comfort possible.

So stoked you got to check out China! I'm Mexican-American and spent a year teaching out there. I can't go more than a few months without going back ever since. The people are so friendly and welcoming and the infrastructure makes the USA feel like it's in the dark age xD. It's a shame the people of China get lumped with their government in the West.. Also, as you saw, I don't think the first taxi driver who went into the store for change was trying to scam you. China is an almost cash-less society. Almost all day to day transactions are done digitally, so many people don't readily have cash available. It's quite remarkable really. Some do consider the first guy a type of scammer though, depending on your perspective. You're essentially paying a premium for not having to wait in the long official taxi queue. But it is considerably more expensive. I've learned this the hard way lol, but you did negotiate it down decently. They can get pretty expensive if you accept their initial offers. Also, the population of random ass cities still boggles my mind too xD. And McDonalds are all over China, even at the peaks of some famous hikes. Many hiking places in China have plazas at the top. Makes me so happy to see how much you enjoyed your time and how amazed you were man! Reminds me of what I love so much about being in China. I'll be heading back there soon and you've got me wanting to fast track my visit to Inner Mongolia hahaha. Cheers man, keep showing people this beautiful world!

This is genuinely one of the greatest videos I've ever watched. That kind Taxi Driver showed you the culture of modern China in a way that very few of us can ever dream of experiencing. I live in an American city of roughly the same population, and seeing so many high-rise residential buildings makes me understand why people call this a ghost town. In definition, I'd say the same because of just how large it is. But your driver? He showed you the true heart of Ordos. This is a community that has fully accepted the hand they've been dealt, and they take advantage of it without blinking. Much love for the people of Ordos City, from these United States of America.

Usually when China carries out some advanced construction, Western media like to call it a ghost town. After a few years, you will find that there are more and more people in the ghost town (of course there are also very few failed examples). This taxi driver wants to show you the beautiful scenery of his hometown, because you know how Western media usually describe China. He is proud of his hometown and hopes that you can show the real China to the world.
@ArchsStanton15 күн бұрын
It's because the LYING BRAIN-DEAD western "media" *doesn't have the ability to comprehend that CHINA IS STILL URBANIZING.* The LYING BRAIN-DEAD western "media" *only know about housing as some sort of commodity like in the west where people by houses AS INVESTMENTS BESIDES JUST TO LIVE IN.* *China's leadership realized by the mid/late 1990s that there was a mass migration of farmers/rural people into the cities for work in factories and so forth and realized China MUST start building dwelllings OTHERWISE CHINA'S CITIES WOULD END UP LOOKING LIKE THE SHANTYTOWN/SLUMS THAT ARE FILLED IN CITIES IN INDIA AND BANGLADESH AND PAKISTAN.* *China's urban population is close to 1 BILLION presently and about 200 HUNDRED MILLION Chinese are STILL expected to move to China's cities in the next couple decades......... THAT IS WHY CHINA'S LEADERSHIP PUSHED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CITIES LIKE ORDOS......*
I'm not a China hater, but the Chinese stock market is known (by the people of China) to be unstable and not a reliable place to invest money, for various reasons. This leads Chinese people to see real estate as the only safe investment option, which can then lead to over construction and real estate speculation.
