That's how ferries run in Sunderbans. Bengal maritime history is ancient and rich. A British ship would last 11 years whilst a Bengal ship would last 20 years. I’ve eaten street food in India, Mexico, Morocco, and Thailand. I never got sick. The food was actually quite fresh. Obviously I didn’t go to dirty looking stands.

In all seriousness though, you can have a fairly safe and hassle free tourist experience in India if you plan your trip carefully and do your research before hand. You can book your stay in good hotels, hire a driver who will take you around and even guide you for the whole trip, and just go to the places worth going to. If you go head first without planning, flying by the seat of your pants, like you do, obviously it will be chaotic, stressful and difficult. So, you shouldn't be surprised. 🤷‍♂
