That is the kind of stuff that I totally love about Japan, they are so kind and open, and I always felt so welcome as a tourist when I was backpacking. Everyone would try their best to understand and work with me

you feel that way because you are a non-Japanese and a tourist. If you are Japanese, you are not only expected but you must do those kind of things at all times, otherwise you would be labeled as anti-social and immature. That kind of social pressure is very bad.

Japanese dudes are hilarious once they are relaxed and see you as not threatening. I had some of the legendary drinking bouts with these guys while visiting Vietnam
