It is finally time for the ToastyBros to try out Ubuntu again after many many years! This time we’re going extra small with the Raspberry Pi 5 and we’re attempting to game on the full setup! This includes a computer, monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse. This setup was just under $300 to put together. Supposedly the Raspberry Pi 5 is over 100% stronger than the previous generation.

Install Ubuntu 23.10 Desktop which supports Steam (with mods), Minecraft, and Raspberry Pi 5. Proton install can also help with steam and other windows apps. You may try "Pi-Apps" to avoid the need for all the command lines in order to get steam working!

Notes about games and compatibilities
Generally difficult to set up, however the guide helps a lot. Not something I would recommend for absolute beginners. Steam wigs out when launching and while the Store/Library loads (lots of seizure fun). Steam also VERY laggy. Some of the games I attempted to use compatibility with Proton, which had mixed results, but the games that don't mention it I didn't test it.Unable to get controller working on pretty much any game except for the ones noted.Axiom Verge - Controller works (DS4)

When trying to launch, got error that Steam stopped responding. After a moment it finally freed up and launched. Need to run in Exclusive Fullscreen for FS to work. Otherwise you can play in windowed mode. Runs okay, probably a little slower than I'd like; but I was playing on a very difficult level. Seemed to run well though.Star Wars: KOTOR II
Launches. Some issues with textures entering an exiting reality. Lots of character models heads vanish but the eyes and mouth stay behind. Shockingly, lowering the settings to low and turning off all visual "improvements" actually makes the game not very responsive.Salt and Sanctuary
Launches right away. Very sluggish gameplay. Due to the nature of this game, I would highly recommend not playing it.
Half Life Source - Launches and Plays but is unplayable due to lag 720P
Hotline Miami - Launched and Plays really well
Minecraft Java Edition with Pi Apps works great
*We did notice that one command is a little messed up on the instructions for Box86 and Box64, but it just needs to be swapped around. Instead of the command "make -j4 sudo make install" it should actually be "sudo make -j4 install"

Retro emulation is where the Pi5 shines. Running Batocera on mine, and many Gamecube games (and even some Wii games) are very playable. Every DOS game I threw at it worked well, too.

I second this mention, I love Batocera. Lately I have been testing RecalBox and I am honnestly impressed with it. I think RecalBox is slighty better in terms of general interface navigation speed, but I cannot and will not say it is faster in RetroArch since it's the exact same thing for every platforms. RetroArch cannot be slower or faster.

Snes is easy on the pi5 but if you wanna play like 90% of the ps2 library you gonna want a orange pi5 or rock 5 its like 20 usd more for same ram configs, but the latter 2 have rk 3588s chips which are octa cores and much better gpu's

I'm not saying this is a bad video guys because I enjoyed the content you did do, but honestly that Pi is capable of so much more, you left out emulating older console games and also installing android since it's a arm CPU it should do well with mobile games from Playstore that has a pretty good library of games you could access I would think. It was a good video but it kind of left me wanting people to see everything the Pi 5 can do, I'm sure it's capable of much more.

My Orange Pi 5+ had a good laugh at this video. RP5 is a generation late and overpriced for what you get. Only the 4GB model is attractive for certain applications. They're riding on the strength of their software currently but that's changing as other SBC makers take a page out of their book. An RP5 can display in 4k but you aren't gaming at that resolution, whereas, any RK3588 based SBC definitely can in some cases, particularly with emulating older consoles. To put in perspective, the RP5 has roughly a third of the processing power of an RK3588. The RK3588 is roughly equivalent to a current premium smartphone. The RP5 is worse than gaming on a decade old Galaxy Note 4. Now try Playtron OS. 12:04 If you can't get through a SCUMM, it is probably time to get on Strattera. Minecraft can run on a 20 year old potato so not impressive. Also, if you aren't a Minecraft fanboy, you don't give two sh*ts how it runs on a SBC. It proves nothing. It is like saying you can get DOOM running on a SBC. But it is even dumber to run Minecraft on a 4090 at 4k. I don't see how you can tell the difference. Still looks like a pixelated mess. It can say '4k' all you want, it will always look like it is running on a VGA monitor. How is it you can pan the SCUMM game with modern cel shaded graphics but you love Minecraft? How do you even manage to play Minecraft for more than 5 minutes and then say you can't play a SCUMM game? Makes zero sense. Minecraft is not only visually unappealing, it is boring too. The perfect time waste for someone with zero sense of purpose. Playing a game merely for gaming's sake. At least the SCUMM game probably has a story worth hearing. But I wouldn't expect someone who 95% tests P2W shooters on their builds to understand that.
