Would have liked to see a fluid head test in panning and tilting versus feature

Great review, one of the most useful ones I've seen for this product.

Thanks for your review, I watched a few different videos before I made a decision to order one of these. I use a bigger zoom lens for my DSLR camera. I have a pretty heavy Tamron 150 to 600 mm zoom lens that's just too much for your standard Walmart tripod! Didn't take very long to destroy two of those! So I decided to go with this, I think it's a little overkill but! When I have to do long distance shots at over 900 mm, I want a smooth pan and tilt that won't be jerky. A lot of times I'll be shooting wildlife, I think it'll do what I'm looking for. Merry Christmas!

Hi John, Merry Christmas! This tripod has been working great for me. I hope it works well with those long lenses you have. Have fun!

I have a gaggle of Smallrig components and generally like what they are about. Unfortunately the consistent weak link with their gear has been undersized screws that strip out, breakneck fall out or otherwise fail. The exposed plastic knob for QR plate tightening screw is a a typical design oversight that makes no sense. Hopefully it can be replaced with a quality metal one. If it raised the cost of this by $10, no one would complain. They should have put witness makes for setting the QR plate position on the left, ergo the same side as the tightening knob. Kind of an obvious oversight that wouldn’t have cost more to get right at the start. I hope they improve the legs to have a removable spreader so you can put the tripod low to the ground. This would require some extra hardware, but well within they wheelhouse and a minimal add on cost The undersized bag is a common problem I have with sooooo many companies, not just Smallrig. Why oh why do companies keep doing this?!? All these complaints aside, this looks like a pretty sweet deal for a cheap back up tripod, which I may end up giving a try. I just wish all the small details were thought through better.

Hey Dave, great comments! I have used the tripod on a few different shoots, and it's performed well. Not being able to get low to the ground is a problem, and the undersized bag thing has been bugging me for years.

@@ToddEckelman90 How is this head holding up? Are both gray/silver lock/release buttons on the head plastic? The lock screw is probably replaceable, but the other button concerns me. Is the tilt adjustment able counter balance a large camera with friction, or is it only mean to lock the camera tilt in position?
@ToddEckelman90 Жыл бұрын
@@davidp158 The head is holding up well. The release knobs feel like plastic and I think they are, but they are holding good as well. I usually use my rigged-out Canon C70 and ZCam E2 F6 on this head and it has not been a problem with balance. It has nice friction to hold the camera in place. I have been using this tripod on a lot of different projects and it has been performing really well. I hope this helps.

Great demo Todd. I am currently seeking a tripod to place a SYRP 4FT Magic Carpet slider. Current tripods I have are not sturdy enough to run Genie II motor with camera mounted without tipping down slightly. In your opinion, would the Smallrig HD tripod be sturdy enough in the legs to support this sort of hardware load?

I think it should work just fine. I use it all the time and it's holding up great. If you get it, make sure that all the leg adjustment levers lock tight. One of mine didn't lock tight at first and that leg would start to slide down.

How can you do a whole video and not say the name of the tripod. I believe it is the AD01 rather than the AD100 which looks very similar. Apart from that a well made video

The plate tightening screw is PROBABLY the same as the Manfrotto tripod, its made of metal. Perhaps ordering on from Manfrotto would be better.

Thanks, I will check on that.

Leg hinges connected to Bowl are made of plastic in case if you drop the tripod so they can break or get cracks on it,if they make leg hinges metal so it would be good.

Do you know how long the legs are when collapsed once you take off the tripod head?
@ToddEckelman902 жыл бұрын
30.5" inches

Can you take off the head and put it on another tripod or glide cam for example???
@ToddEckelman90 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can put the head on another tripod or slider as long as it has a 75mm bowl fluid head mount.
