It was always a mental block that kept him from flying. He did it when saving Lana from the tornado. And later when he was Kal-El and not Clark. He could always do it. But he needed to truly believe he could do it. When the moment came, Clark soared high.
@gwizdrmadezcansi80336 жыл бұрын
I would say that his inability to fly is a metaphor for a person who doesn’t believe in himself,but when remembers the past, he realizes that he had always had the power. Just like when doubt ourselves, but don’t realize what we are capable of and I think we learn a lot from watching this video.
@gengarvenom11805 жыл бұрын
It's a metaphor for accepting his destiny. Throughout the show, Clark struggled with coming to terms with who he was. He wrestled with the idea that he was Kal-El, the last son of Krypton. Never knowing who he was or what he was meant to do. By the end of the show, he was fully realized. He had discovered who was. This is the moment where he truly became Superman. He never doubted what he was able to do or what he was capable of, he feared it like he did his destiny. The only thing he ever doubted was who he was.
@gengarvenom11805 жыл бұрын
This is also very clearly shown in the episode Crusade. Clark was completely taken over by Jor-El. He has forgotten his life as Clark Kent. He knew who he was then. He knew his destiny. In this episode, he was able to fly with ease. When Martha tells that to Bridgette Crosby she understands this as completely embracing his Kryptonian destiny. You have a nice idea, but it is wrong as far as I know. If you can present some evidence to support the idea of your metaphor, I might change my mind.
@markotodorovic70135 жыл бұрын
I like that you are seraching for a meaning but i think it was just not practical. Even in the finale which i'm assuming had bigger budget it looks funky, you can see by his body position that he is clearly on suspenders.
@gengarvenom11805 жыл бұрын
@@markotodorovic7013 It was practical. The show would end when he accepted his destiny. He wouldn't be able to fly until he truly became Superman. Obviously, that isn't the real reason, but that doesn't really matter. The writers work their obstacles into the story. Characters in TV shows get killed off because the actor had to leave. Sometimes it was always intended to be part of the story, but most of the time they needed to be written out. The real world has a large part to play in what can and can't be done. It's a writers job to make it fit. That is what they did here. It was beautifully done. This was a clause that they knew they were going to have to stick with, and my analysis is consistent throughout the show. When he accepts his destiny, he is able to fly, when he hasn't, he can't. If you can prove this wrong. Feel free to, but just saying "it wasn't practical." is looking outside of the story for answers.

smallville is called smallville for a reason, it makes complete sense that he starts flying at the very end because the entire show is about Superman's chilhood and teenage moments. @@dagan8659 No because flying defines him as superman, it is his final power and the hardest one to have. Clark had had a lot of moments where he was in doubt, angry, sad, lost, how can someone like him, like that fly ? He can fly because he finally learnt from all the experiences he had. And did you notice that his powers came one after the other ? It because he was still creating and discovering himself too. Clark’s subconscious block against flying reveals a nuanced internal struggle, reflecting his reluctance to fully embrace his Kryptonian heritage on Earth. This psychological barrier symbolizes his complex journey of identity, where he grapples with being a Kryptonian raised by humans. The moment when he overcomes this subconscious block, learns to fly, and fully accepts his extraterrestrial origins marks a profound transformation. It signifies not only the mastery of his abilities but also a pivotal realization that he is a Kryptonian navigating the human experience, emphasizing the intricate interplay between his dual identities in the narrative.

Throw in the fact that Clark(understandably so) couldn't tell him his secret. Lex really wanted Clark to be his brother but unfortunately we all know how that turned out. The constant lies and secrets kept from him. It's no wonder why Lex became evil. To add onto that the paranoia that the prophecy of Clark's journey as well. Lionel like you said kinda redeemed himself. But by the time that happened, the product of his ruthless parenting of Lex came back to haunt him. Ironically the only person that Lionel truly loved would ultimately be the one who kills him. In Smallville, the most sympathetic character has to be Lex Luthor. they built Clark up as "never kill" he even told the Legion to "preserve life, at all costs, NEVER KILL, NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCE!" he see's a possessed Lionel and kills him. Clark, you got a phantom zone, use it man, dont be a hypocrite.

Gracias.

I love and find it ironic that the voice of Jor El was done by Terrance Stamp. He played General Zod in Superman 2. I love how the CW tips the hat to the previous shows and movies by using the same actors but as different characters.

11 years later, it still makes no sense that the "fight" between Clark and Darkseid is just Clark flying through him, which "kills" him. Also, if they had made Darkseid a physical being instead of a "demon", and if the show had done a part three of the finale, I would have loved to see a real fight between them.
