@crappypc2283 I bought a 3D printed mount off Amazon (www.amazon.com/Smart-Home-Mount-Profile-Conversion/dp/B0BCQXZ9ST/). It's a tad pricey but you also get mounting hardware and a flat USB-C cable which were extremely useful. Not to mention it looks awesome when paired with a dark mode HA dashboard!

for the motion sensor issue at 4:42, you can switch to a MMwave presence sensor which can detect you sitting still or even breathe.

Try using a presence sensor or an ESPresence when checking room occupancy. That way, you don't have to move when you are around the room. YOu can use a motion sensor as an extra sensor (in an OR statement). Alternatively, the motion sensor automation that you have is a reminder for you to stand up and stretch a bit lol

I have many of your devices :) yay home assistant lol. My favorite automation is having actionable notifications based on my motion sensor in my bedroom and the time of day asking me if i work the next day. If i reply with yes it sets my alarm and gets my room ready for the following day. If i say no it sets an alarm later on and lets me sleep in. But i like being productive so if i work it will wake me up at 6:30 am and if i dont it wakes me up at 9:30 am.

Congrats Jimmy for great set up of your bedroom. You will quickly end up moving to a mini pc instead of a rasp to get more performance as you add more devices, automations and other cool stuff. Keep good work!

@@itsmejimmylandry It's more complicated than that. Stuff like "When I open the door to leave the room, everything turns off" doesnt work anymore and requires a lot more thought and alogrithm as soon as a 2nd person is involved. Gotta work with states and better detection.

4:40 also instead of mmwave sensor as already suggested, you could "hack" a aqara door sensor to work as a pressure sensor. This can be done with cheap car sear pressure sensor and attaching the leads onto the reed switch. I'm using this and it works 100% of the time. You could do the same for bed sensor but FSR sensor is more recommended due to having less false positives as your weight is more spread out.

good job Jimmy. Starting out pretty young. I agree with you on Home Assistant and Homekit. Home Assistant has come a long way.When I started my start home in my parents basement home assistant required yaml and python to get stuff done. Keep up the good work. I might have to borrow some of your ideas as well for my channel too..haha

My bedroom automation: 1. Cree bulb comes on when closet door opened. 2. Sensors on windows. 3. Cree bulb in nightstand lamp, and Hue bulb in ceiling fan. Operated by 4. Alexa, of which the round one with the clock is in the room. I have a garbage pickup calendar configured to wake me on the relevant days but not holidays.

Looking good. You might try a mmWave sensors instead of PIR for detecting when you leave a room. They are very good at detecting very small movements (even breathing). Don't get me wrong PIR sensors has there place, (for turning on lights quickly when entering a room, but as you've said yourself not so great for turning them off. I have mine set to turn off the lights within 1 minute after i leave, and pretty much have never been left in the dark 😀

So far yours is the best i came across , I am building my house and need these videos.,,, maybe a small investment to bring in some views to get the subs rolling in,, then the sponsor you need,,, it will snowball,,, you thought about becoming a smart home engineer / electrician ?

I am trying to use esphome/wled to control lights, how are you doing it, and whats your automation/script look like for it? do you have it loop and increase brightness ever x seconds or something?
@itsmejimmylandry
@itsmejimmylandry 7 ай бұрын
I use the Light: turn on service in HA and have the transition parameter set to 1200 seconds (20 minutes). The lights I use for this particular automation are all from Philips Hue and I haven't had any issues with them, but I've heard the transition parameter doesn't always work on some other lights. If your lights don't work for whatever reason, you could probably do a loop over x seconds or something like that. Also, you'll probably need to add a delay after the service call action and set it to the same number of seconds as the transition parameter, that way actions after the service call don't run until the fade in is finished.

Hi i am using apple home and thinking of switching to home assistant but i was wondering what do you use for voice control
@itsmejimmylandry
@itsmejimmylandry Ай бұрын
I still use Siri; if you do decide to switch, just keep your devices connected to Homekit and also connect them to HA, that way you can use Homekit for voice control and HA for automations/other stuff. Or, you can send pretty much all of your HA entities to Homekit with the Homekit bridge integration. HA does _technically_ have a voice assistant, but its still being developed and not very fully featured yet.

I've almost completely gotten rid of motion sensors except in a few specific instances like bathrooms, closets, and other smaller spaces. Present sensors are really the way to go, but can be a little finicky in terms of getting everything right. Amazing set up!

Yes, recently Aqara fp2 has become so stable after software updates I've been contemplating ditching motion sensors too. The difference in responsive speed is almost non existent.

Hi Jimmy, I’m planning to upgrade my bedroom like this as well. I already have a raspberry pi 4a to start with, and a kindle fire 7 as a wall display. My question is: do I need a zigbee bridge to connect sensors and lamps. How did you connect your devices? Would love to hear from you
@ironcrafter54
@ironcrafter54 7 ай бұрын
That is a pretty nice setup you have there, I am in the same situation lol. I started using Apple Home Kit, realized it was far too limiting, and moved to Home Assistant. 2 things that I would recommend are two things to make your bedroom even more ultimate. first, I would recommend putting your light strips in diffuser channels to create a cleaner look. And second, I would look into the adaptive lighting HACS component, I use it and it's quite cool.

Hey there, I'm totally new to this stuff and I have a question, should every device need to connect to home assistant or only the bridge or only the hub? it's very confusing to me. I just can't find someone who really puts all the devices together in a KZbin video
@itsmejimmylandry
@itsmejimmylandry 3 ай бұрын
It depends on the manufacturer and the type of device. Some devices, like Philips hue lights, require an external hub from Philips to connect to your network. Technically speaking, it's the hub that you're connecting to HA, _not_ the actual lights themseleves, and the hub is what makes the lights available for you to control. Other devices can connect directly to your network and directly to HA without the use of an additonal hub. If you see something like "zigbee certified product" on a product's packaging, you'll probably need an extra hub to get it working. If you see the Wi-FI logo on the packaging, you shouldn't need anything extra.

I second this, have the alarm panel on my Dashboard but how are you getting the camera feed? I use Fully Kiosk Browser for my Tablet, does the app provide the camera feed?
@itsmejimmylandry
@itsmejimmylandry 7 ай бұрын
I use an app named WallPanel (wallpanel.xyz) which provides a camera feed over the tablet's IP address, meaning I could add it to HA via the MJPEG IP Camera integration. As far as I know, fully kiosk doesn't provide a camera feed :/

Also noticed you said when you go to bed your lights go out. I'm assuming you have a bed occupancy sensor installed? If not how does HA know when you lay down? If so are you using a Thin film force strip? or a pressure pad? I find the strip works much better then the pad.
@frankraym
@frankraym 6 ай бұрын
I also recommend you get a withing sleep pad which you can integrate in home assistant and do a bunch of cool automations with it. I set mine to set my house to alarm mode or good night mode which turns off all my lights, then activates my "amazon astro" hes a robot thst patrols my house, furthermore it turns on my govee lights to night lights and i have a led strip outside my room that activites if i get out of my room. Good work on your automations !! That's what i like about smart home or automations is there are always more to tinker with. Also check out the fp2 sensor which is a precense sensor you can also integrate with home assistant 😅
