Bl**dy brilliant Rob. I have my smart boat working g on the bench and can’t wait to install on boat this weekend. I used Tailscale for remote access and it was super easy. Now need to decide to do Nema or Lithium projects next!! I am having issues with the aqua water sensor disconnecting after a few hours but some research will sort that out om sure 👍

Paul, Best of luck getting your smart boat set up this weekend. TailScale truly is brilliant for remote access; I'm using Cloudflare on my end, but TailScale definitely offers a simpler solution. Just a note on connectivity - I’ve got four Aqari water sensors in my setup, and they stay consistently connected. It might be worth checking your ZigBee network if you're facing disconnections. Anyway, good luck, and let me know how you progress.

Hi Rob. Great videos. I am so glad I found these. Your videos extremely helpful. I recently started adding lots of automation on my boat using OpenPlotter, SignalK, InfluxDB, Grafana, Victron, HA and ESP. Still trying to get my head wrapped around all of this and the best way to use and configure it. I think the 'Smart Boat 0183 TCP' will be very useful for me. I was hoping you could help me out with something though. I am having some difficulty with the 'Smart Boat 0183 TCP: SignalK' connection. The integration appears to be installed and up and running, but is not receiving any data from the SignalK server installed on a separate RPi on the same network. It shows 'no devices or entities'. The SignalK server does contain a small number of environmental temperature sensors. I am new to all of this so I am probably missing something simple. I have 2 setups. One on my boat, and one at my house for testing. Each setup contains 2 RPi's, one running HA and the other running OpenPlotter and SignalK. Does SignalK need to be configured in a particular way to send data items to HA? Are any SignalK plugins configured? ie 'Convert Signalk to NMEA0183' When using SignalK in other projects there was an Access Request and Acknowledge process that was performed with SignalK to allow another system to have access to data. Is this not required with this integration? Again, thanks for your great videos and any thoughts you might have to help me out.

Sounds like you have a lot of products installed. I only use HA and all of the NMEA instruments come directly to HA with one of my integrations. I find HA does everything I need. From SignalK, you need to ... Admin UI, select Server -> Settings Locate the Server Settings section Ensure that NMEA 0183 over TCP (10110) is set to On Click Save and Restart the Signal K Server ... In my Smart0183TCP integration you then specify the IP address of the the other Rpi and the port 10110. This is how I tested it. However if the source of your NMEA data is from NMEA 2000 then I believe you also need to also install the signalk-to-nmea0183 plugin. Let me know how you go. Send me an email to smart.boat.innovations@gmail.com if you have problems.

TERRIFIC! Rob. This is just a bit over my head but seems possible! I'm going to try to understand how this fits into an overall onboard system for me. In particular, navigation stuff fits in (either BBN or Navionics_) I'm not sure I can even form a coherent question as yet. Imagine how far your videos have taken me already in such a short time! My Pi5 just arrived today.

Thanks. Navigation software only really needs an AIS connection. From AIS you can get your boat's location and all of the AIS targets. All the other instruments can be connected into Home Assistant so you can have a Smart Boat and lots of control.

Hi Rob, thanks for your great video. All off them are really helpful and have made my boat a lot smarter. I do have one question/request? Is it possible to integrate ais information from a nmea 0183 device to hass? Would be great to learn about that in a next video.... Have a nice day greetings Rob
@SmartBoatInnovations
@SmartBoatInnovations Ай бұрын
@@robdekker2 Thanks. It is already possible to connect AIS with my integration. Go to the 16 minute mark of the video and just add hub for the AIS connection. Set the baud rate 38400 which is the normal rate for AIS. Ofcourse you also need to have the physical AIS connections, either via serial or WiF, to the Rpi.

Outstanding! Thank you for creating these videos. I am very curios how you set up your Signal K server. Did you just installed a stand alone Signal K on the same Raspberry Pi as Home-assistant or through Openplotter? That could be a good short video too.
@SmartBoatInnovations
@SmartBoatInnovations 5 ай бұрын
For this video I had Signalk installed on a seperate RPi. You can install Home Assistant and Signalk on the same RPi with a Supervised Install of HA on debian.

Although restating the obvious, great videos! just a quick question, is it possible to feed data as NMEA2K PNG to the SignalK server? Cheers
@SmartBoatInnovations
@SmartBoatInnovations Ай бұрын
@@andreshs1 Thanks.. This integration can accept NMEA 0183 data from SignalK via WiFi. At the moment it cannot feed N2K data to SignalK. Maybe In the future I will expand it to include this.

I have my smart boat built on the bench and ready to install with my Starlink. I have a Halmet to monitor the analog motor date to NEMA 2000. Just looking for demonetized that can update the esp32 software.

Great to hear about your SmartPort setup! You can connect NMEA 2000 (N2K) data using Signal K or an NMEA Wi-Fi gateway as mentioned in the video. If you don’t have a gateway, don’t worry-I’ll soon release a direct N2K to Home Assistant integration that will work on an esp32. Stay tuned!

Amazing video and fantastic integration! I have just one issue where the wind speed is coming through as m/s but being labeled as kn in homeassistant. Wind speed units sensor report M so it looks like the integrations knows it's in m/s but not labelling as such on the Wind Speed sensor. Therefor the wind speed is reporting incorrectly at around half. Is there any way to either correct the unit on the Wind Speed sensor or to do the calculation from m/s to kts so the value is correct? Other than that, fantastic work! So much easier than trying to get signalk in via MQTT!
@SmartBoatInnovations
@SmartBoatInnovations 5 ай бұрын
Thanks. So the units are Kn but it is actually m/s? Can you tell me the sentence name for this sensor. You can find it listed under model in the integration.
@SVCM
@SVCM 5 ай бұрын
@@SmartBoatInnovations Yes, that's correct. For example the Wind Speed sensor is reporting 3kn when it is actually 3m/s so closer to 6kn. The sentance name is MWV.
@SmartBoatInnovations
@SmartBoatInnovations 5 ай бұрын
@@SVCM Yes I see. The issue is that the integration is assuming a normal unit of measurement of knots when it should display m/s. So the number you see is actually m/s. This is because your sensor is sending m/s and not knots. I will need to figure out something for this but in the meantime you can make a template sensor or helper to create a new sensor for wind speed. Use yaml like this ( update the prefix sensor name you have in place of sensor.XX_mwv_3)... template: - sensor: - name: "Wind Speed in Knots" unit_of_measurement: "Kn" state: > {{ (states('sensor.XX-mwv_3') | float * 1.94384) | round(2) }}
