After almost 4 months of daily use, I’m still amazed how well this integration works. Thank you Rob! 👏👏👏(from Seattle)

Great work Rob! Your videos have been super helpful for me setting up my smart boat. Managed to get NMEA2000 data talking to my RPi5 and HA via the Victron Cerbo GX using Signal K and Node Red following the instructions on boat hackers. But do you reckon you use one (or multiple) of those USB CAN A devices to integrate analogue sensors directly such as engine or tanks sensors?
@SmartBoatInnovations5 ай бұрын
Thanks!. Yes if the sensors are on a N2K network. You can get the other N2K data directly to the Rpi 5 and Home Assistant via this USB adapter or wireless via rhe ESP32.

Great work, Rob - as always! One quick question for clarity: how does the "include PGN" option work? If during the initial installation of the integration I choose which PGNs I need, will it just import these and ignore everything else? Thanks!

Thanks. Yes it will just setup the PGNs that are in the comma separated list of include PGNs

Loving your HA integrations Rob. I have SignalK running on a separate Pi4, I have AIS data on the network, but dont see it in HA, is this correct?
@SmartBoatInnovations2 ай бұрын
Thanks. Depends on how you have connected the N2K to HA. If it is a direct connection via USB or ESP32 then you shoild see the AIS info in HA. If you a going via Signalk and then wireless, which ia 0183, then I am not sure if AIS gets sent through.
@guybrushthreepwood57435 ай бұрын
Thanks for this Rob. As I understand things the NMEA2K network is powered by one (and only one) of the devices on the network. So when nothing active is on there's no power - can the ESP32 power it up if it doesn't detect a voltage?
@SmartBoatInnovations5 ай бұрын
The N2K network should be powered by a dedicated fused 12V supply. The esp32 will draw the power from this supply.

great video! so my boat is equip with raymarine sealtalk ng , so if I understand I should be able to use the waveshare Adaptateur convertisseur USB vers CAN?
@SmartBoatInnovations2 ай бұрын
Thanks..Yes you can. You will need the USB adapter and also a Seatalk cable to connect to your network backbone.

I’m not getting Indy info and when I plug in the usb device the NMEA next work stops sending data. I’m not getting my lights on the usb device except for the power led?

Make sure you have the CAN high and low wires connected correctly, and the Waveshare parameters updated like in the video. You have to see it working first from your PC..

I have a Yacht Devices NMEA WiFi router model YDNR-02. Is there a way to bring that in using the ESP 32 board? Do I just need to update your code? Is that something you can do?
@SmartBoatInnovations2 ай бұрын
@@SVRockChalk That router outputs NMEA 0183 via wifi. You just need to use that and implement the wifi integration I have in this video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKmslIGQoamViqs

I have followed your guides and have a question. In this video you connect to nmea2000. If you have other sensors in Home Assistant as temperature, tachometer etc, can you SEND that information TO the NMEA2000 network so you can display that information in your Raymarine MFD? /Reidar
@SmartBoatInnovations5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Good question. At the moment 2000 data can only be received into Hone Assistant. Maybe this can be a future integration I develop. In the meantime you can use a standard tablet to display the HA sensors.
@alastairlordАй бұрын
@@SmartBoatInnovationsah, that would be fantastic! Your smart boat setup is really good for harvesting analogue data, for example from the engine - better and cheaper than anything else I have seen. If that data could be passed back to NMEA then it would provide universal access to it from any device, and that would be hugely helpful!

Hi Rob, will this work on Windows? I have successfully connected the Wave share USB-CAN-A and tested it as per your instructions, yet once I try to configure the integration I don’t get any data. For port I am typing COM8 Thanks in advance
@SmartBoatInnovationsАй бұрын
@@andreshs1 In theory it should but I have only tested it with a Rpi. Maybe your Virtual Machinr on windows does not allow access to com8. Set the logger level for this integration to debug in the configuration.yaml. Reboot HA and then email me the logs. Smart.boat.innovations@gmail.com

Hi Rob, thanks for the hint, I did see the problem in the log, I was using COM8 instead of using the Linux equivalent, as Home Assistant runs on the Windows WSL2 environment, so I had to use the Linux serial port address instead. Thanks!
