Freaking genius! I've never seen such a *deep* hardware hack on a Shelly product. You've completely reinvented that thing!

Thank you! It's a bit over the top I know😜. It wouldn't have to be that complicated if I just knew how to write some new firmware for the existing Wi-Fi module, from the bulb itself. Hopefully Shelly will produce a smart bulb like this soon.

Very cool! What's the advantage of doing this versus just having the Shelly installed directly on the light switch?
@MyProjectBoxChannel Жыл бұрын
There is no real advantage in doing this. It's kind of pointless🤣. BUT! It just proves the concept, that manufacturers could make a smart bulb that could be controlled with a traditional light switch, and Wi-Fi control at the same time! With a normal smart bulb the light switch can turn it off, and the bulb is no longer smart! it's off it's dead, until you turn the power back on again. Only then do you get Wi-Fi control back.

@@MyProjectBoxChannel ahhh gotcha. As a proof of concept it's fantastic, the manufacturers should sit up and watch! Thanks for the reply

What a great idea. Maybe you could work with Theo Arends (creator of Tasmota) on developing this as a standard solution. I think it would be a really popular development.

Thank you! It could be done much simpler as well. Just a firmware mod, on a existing smart bulb, and my little light-switch detection circuit. And then you will have a smart bulb that actually works with your existing light switch.😉 I would buy that as a product. Even if someone else copies my idea.

Try tasmota

Can I specify what GPIO pins do in tasmota? I'm not very good with firmware 😥 I'm more of a hardware guy.

Is there a guide on that? Does the switch for the bulbs needs to be smart or just normal switch?
@MyProjectBoxChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@thebatu89 the great thing about this modification is it works with an ordinary light switch. It's just an experimental prototype concept, not really practical for most people.
