Even though I live in Bengaluru, I frequently visit Tumakuru, a neighboring city which is my native and a “Smart City”. The first question which comes to my mind whenever I visit Tumakuru is “Why on earth is it called a Smart City ? How different has it been compared to what it was before it was a ‘Smart one’ “ ? Also, I’ve been visiting Pune a lot during the last 2 years, mainly to Hinjewadi and surrounding areas. Every time I return to Bengaluru from my Pune trip, I feel that I’ve returned to a City which is a league above Pune (Infrastructure, traffic, cleanliness, modernization etc.. are quite appalling in the areas that I visit in Pune). I’ve quite a few colleagues who worked in Bengaluru and had to relocate to Pune for inevitable reasons and according to them “Current Pune is like how Bengaluru was 10 years ago” ! 🎉

I agree with you, I lived in Hinjewadi and Marunji Wakad for 2 years. And this was same thing I thought. Alas, it will get worse if Pune doesnt build better infrastructure before population becomes unmanageable there.

lol even Baghdad and Damascus has better civil infrastructure compared to my city Bangalore. I realised now one thing Indians are emotional thinker rather rational thinkers. In banana democracy you have to keep criticising the government who ever its is. Even I was denial mode about Indian cities after travelling to so many countries including war throne countries I realised how poor Indian cities are planned.

Solapur was the part of smart city project but the kind of work has done under this is worst quality and some work is unnecessary 😑 Maybe because of Corruption and lack of vision.

Everything takes time. Let's wait for our gdp to grow a bit. For now, we need infras like roads, highways, railways and airports. Human behavior is a major role here. If you yourself can't keep the place clean, don't expect govt to do so. And most of the people living in slums are illegal immigrants most probabaly.
