I enhanced our simple doorbell with an ESP8266 to make it smart. I can disable the doorbell, trigger other smart applicances as a notification or trigger the door opener.

NIce! I replaced our 90s doorbell system with a DECT one from Doorline. Works fine with our already existing landline phones and the Fritz Box even exposes the calls so I'm able to trigger any other smart home device. To open the door the smart way I hooked up a cheap fingerprint reader and a relay to the MQTT network with a D1 Mini. Greetings from Aschaffenburg.

I’ve never seen a power panel like those Siemens panels you should in your home. As a Canadian, I would love a tour of your utility room and an explanation of what each piece of infrastructure does for your home.

Do you mean those to the right of the Siedle power supply? They are rollershutter drivers that are controlled via an KNX bus. Our house was built in the year 2000 and the previous owner who built it included a KNX bus as the future of home automation back then. I think that despite being an old standard now, the principle of this bus is great, because it is a dedicated bus line throughout the house without any glitchy wireless components and without the need of software updates as it is an isolated system (except for a KNX to ethernet gateway). But it is very expensive, so you will not find it on newer buildings with modern wireless alternatives or older buildings when it was even less conceivable. In my experience, you usually find this bus on luxury buildings (no, our house isn't one) or in office buildings, hotels, conventions areas etc. About the rest of the utility room: I don't think that I can tell you much. I am not an electrician and this is where I draw the line of what I would touch and modify. When the few videos I have seen on electrical infrastructure from North Americans are representative, then one could say that we Germans are a bit paranoid or pedantic on safety regulations in this regard, but of course this already looks quite different if you look at older buildings.

Damn! I've been wanting to make something like this but simpler just for the ringer notification. I keep missing the DHL man because I'm always working at home with my headphones on. Thanks for the inspiration, I'll get started ASAP. Good thing your Gameboy wifi video became so popular that YT pushed your channel into my timeline. Greetings from Berlin.

Nice one! I made a similar thing, but also included an LCD display and temp/humidity sensor and web server to access it all remotely. It sits in a 3d printed case next to the phone.

I think the guys over at Ring took inspiration from this, when they designed the Ring Intercom. I have one now, and it works on most dumb doorphones, and you can even speak to the person ringing the door.

Oh. My. Fucking. God. I've been looking for some DIY smart doorbell for my Siedle 1+n System for YEARS now and couldn't find any information on how the data is encoded or at least how to trigger the door to open. I actually tried reverse engineering it myself, but eventually I gave up and bought a proprietary solution (a Nuki Opener). And now, after I finally bought one and installed it and set everything up to be working with my Home Assistant environment I randomly stumbled across your video explaining everything I wanted to know.

I'm looking forward to implement this.. but I have another requirement, which is the ability to talk to the beloved mailman whenever he rings. I'm working on implementing a PBX which would stream audio+mic towards my sofpthone and viceversa. Anyway, the electronics schematics for this project fit very well to my needs! Cool video 😁

It's really too bad Nello One went out of business. They had a very cool board that powered off the 18/24v supply and buffered with a supercap.

A great solution and thanks for all the warnings since I have the exact same doorbell system. I only want the push notification if the bell rings and I thought maybe a Sonoff SV in itching mode would do if I only knew how to do the wiring, without shaking Do you think this would work with a dry contact relay and eLink instead of OpenHab? How can I integrate the components you used as a shortcut since I still use a Sonoff RF 433mhz bridge for door sensors for doors and windows opening and closing...
