Smart Fence for Commercial Sheep and Goat Operation (Part 2)

Continuing with building the smart fence paddock for 450 sheep and goats plus their offspring. Travis is very efficient with this product after a few weeks. We bought it from wassamfarmandf... in Sedalia, Mo. It's available from other Gallagher dealers.

This is amazing. Thank you!!!! We need goats but couldn’t figure out how we’d keep them in efficiently. Netting is too much work. This might do the trick.

How did you adjust the wires on the smart fence? The smart fence units I looked at had wide spacing from the top line to the the 2nd line. I like the way yours is set up better.

How many of these units do you use for a paddock and what size fence charger do you use on it?

We use an average of 2 on each side, and 1 on each end, = 6. Of course that varies with the paddock size and amount of forage present. Sometimes there is a permanent fence on each end and we just strip across. You would just have to look at your pastures and see what works. For the charger, if we are just charging the smartfence in a stand-alone paddock we are using a 6-joule stafix. Many times we are getting power from the single wire around the perimeter fence.
