Hi welcome to my first video, about the first major upgrade I've done to my New-to-Me 2010 smart fortwo Series 451. In this video I chronicle my install of the BRABUS (tm) Gauge Pod kit, sold by SMARTMADNESS.com .
One way, (but not the only or cheapest way) to get a tachometer in your smart fortwo. For me this is the best looking way to upgrade the cool factor and finally know for sure that I'm not over revving the engine when shifting manually. A great way to complete the 'art' look of your Swatch / Mercedes/ ART car! Bonus... Plug and Play. No splicing or wiring headaches.
In this install video see what I did right AND what I screwed up! I'm by no means a professional video maker, or sponsored by smartmadness.. But here is a link to their site if you want to check them out... www.smartmadnes... Please Leave a Thumbs up if you thought this was helpful!!

I just installed the Smart Madness pod combo in my 2013 Passion Coupe. These steps are for years 2011-2015 451 models. Easy, peezy, lemon squeezy! Tools needed: 1/4" ratchet (I didn't have a small combination wrench but didn't need it) Harbour Freight 1/4" ratchet torx bit (don't remember the size but it was the smallest bit in the Harbour Freight set) for the single screw (provided from Smart Madness in the order) A mini feeder tape from Home Depot to pull wire through small openings. A small 22 gauge wire to pull through the opening and to then attach to the pod gauge cable. Install Steps: 10 minutes. 1) Disconnect the vehicle battery for safety. I didn't do this step and did not include the time to do this step in the 10 minute install steps. 2) Gently pop off the plastic cover plate where the pod will go. 3) Gently pull the main dash speedo cluster gauge straight toward you. I didn't disconnect the speedo wire. I didn't feel the need and just gently set the speedo cluster on a rag that I tucked in by the steering wheel to keep from scratching the unit or the dash itself. 4) Feed your mini stiff metal feeder tape through the hole where the pods go until you see the end in the main dash opening. Much easier this way than feeding in reverse. 5) Attach your single 22 gauge junk wire to the end of the feeder tape and pull back through the pod opening. 6) Disconnect the junk wire from the feeder tape and attach the gauge pod cable and pull the pod cable through to the main speedo opening. 7) Locate the miniature pod cable connector that Smart/Mercedes conveniently taped via masking tape in the main speedo area. The cable you will be looking for is not long and the end is precisely where the tape is itself. When plugging in the pod cable make certain to feed it in behind through the hole and after it is connected tuck it in behind so when the main speedo cluster is snapped back into place it won't crush and pinch the pod cable. 8) Set the new gauge pods by pushing them in the hole tightly. They will stand all by themselves. 9) Insert the single screw in the pod hole to permanently.mount the new pods in place. 10) Snap the small provided square cover (should be in a small package next to the plastic baggie with the single screw and only snaps in one direction). 11) Gently snap the main speedo pod back behind the steering wheel. You may have to apply slow gentle force to clip it back in. 12) Test the new pods by starting the car. If you are in the garage do not forget to open the garage door. 13) Turn on the headlights and make sure the new pod lights work and light up. 14) Gently rev the car to make sure the tach needle works properly. 15) Set the pod clock by holding one of the button on the back of the clock. -Not sure yet what the other button on the back of the clock does (there are two buttons on the back).

Good video, however instead of pulling the wire harness to get to the tack lead, just take out 4 screws, pull the radio and it is right there easy to grab and take the tape off. No potential damage to pulling the harnes.
