One home automation system to rule then all! That’s what I use, and what I use is Home Assistant. Siri, Alexa, GH, Hue, Tuya, DIY ESP devices, Zigbee, you name it! One “app”, no cloud required, total control. Perfect! 👍

Hi great vid - thanks! I am a complete "newbie" .... I have a string of RGB LEDs that I am using to light up a wall as a background for a scene in front of it. I want to create custom-color scenes for sunrise, day time, sunset and maybe a cloudy day. What system should I use on my Windows 11 to do that?
@Vanalleswa4 жыл бұрын
Do you have options for the miboxer from milight? The lights are great, but the app lacks functionality. I've connected it to google home, but i can't create scenes. Hopefully you have an idea for this. thanks in advance!

THANKS for this video - I have a bunch of Tuya devises, blink cameras and IFTTT to run some scenes VIA smartlife. This works well but I want to do more. I would like a hub-less or cloud based system if possible. Can you recommend what I should use to run everything in the future?

Great video! Smart home stuff is something I’ve only started to dabble with, so far I have some Eve temperature sensors in different rooms and a few plugs to monitor electricity use via HomeKit, as well as a Dyson fan/purifier which unfortunately doesn’t seem to be compatible with HomeKit. But I’m starting look at options to add a bit of automation. Given that there is an ever expanding amount of smart devices out there these days it’s can be a bit daunting to start researching what’s out there. So these videos are great, and some practical examples are really helpful.

Glad you found the video useful. The Wild West aspect of smart homes is exactly why I’m making this series. It can be pretty daunting. If you think of any areas that would be worth covering as the series goes on, give me shout.

Thanks, John. That's a new one for me. Haven't heard of that issue, but you may need to reset the hub. It's kind of the nuclear option, but it can fix a lot of quirks.

One of my smart outlets is from tp link, unfortunately it doesn't work with apple home kit. On the bright side it works flawlessly with amazon. I guess brands and their support are playing a huge role and it would be nice to have a list of supported devices per ecosystem.

Great Video Matt- I have Apple Homekit ( and apple home pods) with a few scenes. Does Homekit via Siri pre-condition your Tesla? ( I know you can do it manually by the Tesla App) but wonder if you can say "hey Siri" precondition my Tesla?

I took the easy was and used the "STATS" IOS app to make the Siri command "Cool Tesla". Matt may know a better way.
@UndecidedMF5 жыл бұрын
Hi Leo! And yep, you can but have to use a third party app to make it work. There are a few, but I love Stats for iOS for that. You can set up Siri shortcuts for a bunch of the car commands ... even opening your frunk.

Keep up the good work mate! :)

Thanks, Mattia! I also have the second-get hub and was using the classic app (I prefer that one anyway). The slow, slow transition that smartthings is making to samsung is excruciating.

Hi Matt! Greetings from Portugal! I have 4 GH minis and a GH hub, phillips Hue hub and all my wall switches are smartlife. I dont have support for rotines or is very limited in my country in GH, would you recomend smartthings to make rotines or there´s a cheaper way that doesn´t require another hub?
@UndecidedMF5 жыл бұрын
GH has some of the basics, but isn’t as robust as other platforms. You can do routines, but as you pointed out, it can be limited. The best methods I would recommend all require hubs like Smartthings, Hubitat, Home Assistant, etc. With any of those you can easily tie it into GH, so you won’t lose any of the benefits you get today. Smartlife/Tuya is an interesting platform because it’s hubless. Have you tried a third party service like IFTTT or Life360? Between those two, you might be able to piece together missing functionality you’re looking for without having to add a hub.

Outstanding video as usual. So professionally done. Just a question: I started off years ago with Wink, and trying to migrate to Hubitat. Hubitat has an extremely steep learning curve. Your thoughts on Hubitat and Winks future?
@UndecidedMF5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Wink has had a very rocky few years and development looks like it’s slowed down on the platform. On the flip side, Hubitat is coming on strong with a very vibrant community and consistent updates coming out from the platform. If Hubitat can keep up its pace of updates and growing the community, I think it could be one of the go to platforms. Right now, it’s definitely one to watch.

When setting up a smart home, should, I use a dedicated wifi router instead of my ISP?
@CJPorras5 жыл бұрын
Antonio Dasilva I ended up purchasing my own router. My ISP one was kicking devices off the WiFi. I honestly recommend taking control of your internet, and pickup you’re own router if you can afford to.
@UndecidedMF5 жыл бұрын
I'd strongly recommend getting a new wifi router. A lot of routers, especially ones from your ISP, tend to struggle when you have a lot of devices on the wifi. The more you add, the more they start to buckle under the pressure.
@futurecactus5 жыл бұрын
This is why people switch to Zigbee or Z-Wave, it's better to keep the networks separate using the most appropriate protocols.
