Heap of fun installing this with you mate! I was so impressed with this setup I need you to come around to my place now and install one of my own. Really good tips at the end but, hope everyone takes security seriously.

Plenty of uses for this one... no brainer for bike riders. Nice work guys. Glad to see the security focus.

I haven't owned a motorbike in the last 10 years, I totally didn't even think of how handy it would be for that!

Did you end up installing it?

FYI, shorting contacts with a fork works on high voltage as well, it's just a bit more dangerous :)
@Isaac_Insoll3 ай бұрын
Depends on the load rating of the fork 🤣

Thanks for the video guys! Can you speak to the long term stability of it 1y later? Any issues with it dropping off the network or becoming unavailable etc? Slightly concerned about it being shipped with some firmware that messes around inside the LAN but probably could just load ESP Home via USB immediately.

Can you reverse the logic in Home assistant? i.e when the magnets are open the door is closed

can you show us more with a video how to set up security on to esp?

I tried to cover it in the second half of this video. Do you have a specific question or just general "ESP Security tips"?

Maybe I missed something, but how did you get your car to be able to open your garage door? And how do you open your garage door without being connected to your home WiFi?
@husseinabdulla17 күн бұрын
Did you get solution for that !

How you can control when you out! I connect to wifi home but when i get out home I can’t control the carage! It’s not useful for me like this if I can’t see are open or close , When I am away from home. When I turn on the cellular network, I do not see it responding. I tried to connect Wi-Fi from my second device and the same problem. How did I do it?
@kgeorg197915 күн бұрын
Home Assistant requires you to be on the network to connect unless you pay for the cloud version. You can use a VPN to connect to your home network with something like Teleport and then you can access Home Assistant.

If I dont have HA, can i still use this. Maybe in Google home? Also does it have its own app. What app are u using?

I’m using Home Assistant. This whole device is powered by ESP Home which is built to connect simple smart home devices like this to home assistant without using the cloud. I didn’t want “cloud” as I don’t want to pay other companies or trust them with my data. If you want something that works directly with google home without home assistant then I’m sure there are multiple options out there for you, but this isn’t the one you want, and I don’t have anything I can recommend as I’ve only got experience with this one.

I have the exact same device and it used to work perfectly fine for us. Unless I tried to set it’s time correctly and afterwards it stopped working. Now I tried to reset it but forgot how to do that. Also I cant find the little manual booklet anymore so maybe someone reading this might know how to reset this little device?
@Isaac_Insoll6 ай бұрын
Sorry I can’t help with that one. I threw out the manual and all packaging as soon as I got it up and running. I did email their support department with some questions (about the security side of things) and they were really responsive.

Has anyone had issues with this garage door opener not connecting to the router? Especially after a power cycle, this is such a nuisanse
@Isaac_Insoll3 ай бұрын
I've had this for about 8 months now and there was one time (about 6 months ago) where it dropped off the network, so i just unplugged the power and plugged it back in. Aside from that once incident it has been perfect the whole time

Oh boy I don't have to take my one key, but I have to carry my bulky phone with me while I'm walking
@Isaac_Insoll6 ай бұрын
I take my phone anyway though as otherwise people can’t call me and I can’t listen to podcasts on the walk. The remote is literally only taken for getting back into the house. My wife and I are both loving the ‘keyless dog walk life’ now :)
@JoeAiello7893 ай бұрын
Yes! That is a great point! I NEVER leave the house without my phone. It's how I call an ambulance when a kid gets hurt. However, there's lots of times I leave the house without any key or my wallet. My phone lets only me buy stuff, lock doors, turn off lights. A hidden key out back will help when your phone drops down a sewer though (happened with my keyring only once!).
