Wow. I've been designing and installing alarm and cctv systems for 20+ years and i so so enjoyed listening to this explanation of the variations out there. This guy not only comes across as a genuinely nice guy but everything he said was absolutely spot on. And I learned stuff about the wifi cams that i didnt know because as professionals we often deal with professional products that don't always include cams like Nest etc. Sometimes in our business you hear people drone on about things they really dont know about, but this guy is telling you the truth.

The problem about internet going down (burglars mess with your telecom line, connection faults etc) is easily fixed with getting a 4G lte router, an unlimited data connection in any provider you prefer, and an lte failover switch/router plugged into a ups. It's gonna cost a few extra bucks, but to me it's worth having a steady internet connection no matter what happens, so your system is always up and running. Poor cellular/4g signal reception is easily fixed with additional antennas (external is better) installed on the lte router.

Excellent video with a lot of good information. I have a WiFi camera that only has motion detection and it's so bad that I had to turn off notifications. I recently installed a POE camera system with an NVR. Although it doesn't have facial recognition it does have Vehicle and Person detection that works flawlessly so I couldn't be happier with it. I was only able to afford a system with 4MP cameras but I can upgrade individual cameras to 4K (8MP) or up to 12MP as I can afford it. There is one other thing to consider with WiFi cameras and that is WiFi bandwidth, each camera becomes another device using up your WiFi bandwidth.

Camera security, regardless of the manufacturer, can be enhanced by making sure to change the default settings so online scanners can't access the video feed even if it is detected. The home network should also be designed with security in mind - prevent incoming connections from unknown sources and only allow outbound connections to secure (https) known destinations. The premise is simple, actually doing it does take a little research and work, but it can be done.

I mean for little money the wireless cams can completly get jammed and not work at all. If that happens how do the cameras react? Sound a loud alarm? But could that also possible happen to the wired dvr cam? I mean sure the camera itself will not get jammed but the wifi in your house from outside? Sure you will still have the content locally saved but no real liveview and therefore no prevention like you always advise like e.g. two way communication to scare the burglars away. 99% of this video is spot on and very informative. However you missed me when you said nvr/dvrs don't have as many features 🤔. Most the NVRs i install have tons of features you just have to use them. Wired systems can be wired to alarms, doors, strobe lights, speakers ect.

Yes, that’s where the “in general” comes in that I mention in the written description for the video & also on the ticker during the video. If you watch, I mention that there are some very advanced analytics & features for DVRs/NVRs that blow away the WiFi options, but I was talking IN GENERAL. Because when you’re talking to people all over the globe, which is what this video reaches, not everyone has a person like me & you (if you install these devices also) to buy from. WiFi options are much more available and accessible to the average consumer “in general”. So when I’m talking about the lack of features, I’m talking about the DVRs and NVRs available at your local big box retailer. So again, you have to understand the broad audience this video is aimed at.

Great information, the motion detection is turned off on almost all my cameras because of false alarms just like you said, If you drive up to my front gate you will see 4 wi-fi security cameras that cost $65-$100 each including a PTZ, they are 1 to 8 years old and today only one is still working. my point is a cheap camera will fail eventually.

I use some cheaper Reolink wifi cameras with their SD cards. The are hooked up to my synology NAS with surveillance system as well, so 2 ways of recording. I can easily use the proprietary app and see footage at my PC. Works OK, but setup can be a crime by itself. So a more dedicated system for my new home will be my favorite . Good afternoon! We recently bought our first house. The first thing I was interested in is a security system. We got a SimpliSafe system and so far it has worked fine. But now I want to add a better layer of security with a camera system. We had no previous experience at all. I hope SimpliSafe fixed the security vulnerability they had with remote door sensors (or any other 433mhz sensors)... also most of the systems can be bypassed very easily because most of them share the same weak spots/design flaws, also it would be better to use cloud backup so if they destroy/steal the nvr system/hdd's you will have backup... also try to use wired sensors where possible. I am pretty sure you can buy all that stuff from china for ~100-300$ and get the same results... while 1 "brand" camera will cost you 100+$ but what will you pay for? quality or name? idk...

I've recently been looking for as much info on outdoor wifi cameras as I can to determine what may be best. I live in eastern Canada (Newfoundland) so weather is definately a factor (we get a fair bit of wind driven precipitation) Would you be able to reccommend a wifi camera (brand) that would be suitable? Under those conditions there’s not a wifi camera out there, that I’d recommend (unfortunately). I’d go with a higher end wired system.

I would be more interested in an outdoor camera that has a rechargeable battery, is very weatherproof including against heavy rain and has a good app that I cam use on my phone. I would also prefer a low key profile camera like in black as oppose to white. What options would you recommend?

I would have several suggestions for you, if it wasn’t for the black requirement. Not too many that fit your exact requests in black.

I would look at the EufyCam 2C Pro, but it comes with 16GB of rewritable storage. I don’t think you’re going to get to 512GB with your requirements. I think you’re going to have to design your own camera. Lol

You would either have to string it across in the air, like from your attic to the garage (not ideal for several reasons). Or trench the cable underground in conduit. That’s a lot more work, but the best way to do it. There is a third option using IP cameras & an internet powerline adapter, but that’s a little more advanced.

If you’re Wi-Fi reaches your garage & you have power out there, it might be best to do some Wi-Fi cameras out there. If your garage is close enough to your house, you could use mesh routers like Nest Wi-Fi to get an actual router in your garage, so you have a strong signal out there. I don’t know of any other alarm system (that I could truly recommend anyway) that has the video on the panel. But there are systems that are compatible with Smart Displays and you can control your system & view your cameras on the display. You can do it with ADT Pulse, but their cameras suck.

Hey man, i was wondering if you had some advice or could maybe do a vid on the ballers on a budget haha! I recently decided to get 5 Blink cameras set up around my house (prior to a friend showing me your channel yesterday). I wanted decent night vision and decent quality. I think your too nice when talking about Blinks. They have the quality of an etch-a-sketch… and at night, the best description you could get of a person is “well, we know you were robbed by a human…” I’m in the 600.00 range and the only stores around me the deal with residential, push ADT and sams club crack dealer cameras. After the blink cameras, I’m now okay with going with wired cameras, I think they have more of what I’m looking for. Lol I’ve watched 4-5 of your vids looking for brands and prices but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for so i thought I’d ask, my apologies if you’ve covered this and I’ve not seen it yet! You’d need a higher end wired system, like one of our Alibi systems. With Alibi, we’ve got cameras with human detection, strobe lights & audible alarms.

Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi camera you’re looking for does not exist. It SHOULD in 2023, but it doesn’t. To meet your needs, you’ll need a wired NVR system.

I have what might make a good video subject. I have a house and three townhouse rentals. I would like to have a security system set up for each. In my mind, I would supply the equipment: door bell camera, a back door camera/light/motion activated, maybe a motion activated light/camera focused on the cars out front . I would like to have it notify the tenant but not necessarily me (eventually I would like at least one unit to go AirBnB and thus at that time I would want to be notified). I have watched your videos and a dozen other peoples and I am on information overload. I don’t know if wired or wireless, big box or specialty store is best. I don’t want you o get into a bunch of monthly fees, the tenant can pay that bill I want to maintain control of my equipment, meaning it stays with the house and I can set up the next tenant when the current one leaves. After reading all this, what do you think the solution is?

Very good suggestion for a video. I come across a lot of people in this situation. I’d set them up with something like Eufy cameras (doorbell, outdoor cameras, etc). Just have them sign up for an account when they move in & have them delete the account when they move out. It’s easy to do that with Eufy & they don’t require a monthly fee.

Some cameras now have what’s called “white light” (certain brands call it different things) night vision. It’s actually a white light that emits from the camera instead of traditional infrared. In most cases this white light can gain you color night vision. I think cameras in general are a deterrent & if you add a visible white light they can be even more of a deterrent.

@@GeorgeLangabeer well, if you have a process of removing from the cloud and writing to something else, it is. This can be achieved in a similar manner to trick the system similar to when people used to copy vhs tapes. You are basically watching it on one, while simultaneously copying it somewhere else. This can be achieved with little effort, but it does still take some effort on the users side. Which most clearly are not willing to do. Any wired unit can also be used online. It just takes special programs to operate. However if you hook up a passive only system to the internet, you now have made it possible for someone else to watch ur cameras which is the major positive of a closed system. I agree though, I just wanna let ya know, you can have ur own internet servers, each camera hooked up to its own IP address, just thinknof any major systems. You can replicate those urself anywhere ya know. I can type that ip address into any browser and look at that camera. Big companies do this because the IT people work on them remotely. Anyway, point is, literally anything is possible now. Generally, the cheaper, lesser known brand of camera u go with, the more you can customize them and set them up to exactly what you want.

A competitor told me that my neighbors probably have the ability to close my camera off, come in and rob me, then go out with my belongings without arousing suspicion. I sustained a $7,000.00 loss last year and 2 wedding rings, a VERY expensive camera a great sewing machine, other nice pearl necklace, gifts from my grandchildren. The people who took my belongings are my next door neighbors AND the management of the small apartment complex I live in. This pilfering has been going on for about 5 years! I know, disgusting, isn't it? I rented a storage place to keep my personalized items in. However please don't think I step aside and allow these crimes, no I do not. I tried to follow steps of responsibility without support or response on their part. ( re: manager is actually one of the theives) Nothing was done as I expected so the next time there was a theft I went to request assistance from the next step management. Her advice is "Stay home. I don't have time for this." Seriously that was her way of helping stop these thieves. The theft rages on. A few of the older less strong neighbors have mentioned things they are missing. I encourage them to lock their doors at night and whenever they go somewhere. I had Blink. I have two cameras in use now. I had a nanny cam and they have been able to break through the cameras I had hoped they would be able to help me help myself catch these scoundrels. Please. Ah, I read that most in home burglaries take place between 10:00 am to 15:30. Truth? I wonder how they use a device to turn my cameras off, enter my apartment, steal and go out again. Can you help me with how I can protect my belongings? Please?

What could you recommend for seeing neighbors on your yard. We would like to put one on each of the front doors replacing the flood lights with the cameras with floodlights. Then we would like to put some in places that we can't really wire up so they would have to be wireless. Also would like to not have a subscription for each camera. But just 1 subscription for a couple of cameras. Would like to view the camera at work if we need to.

The new Nest Cams seem like a good fit for all the above. I have a few videos on them, if you want to check them out. They have the floodlight camera & battery powered cameras. One subscription fee for all the cameras you buy. $6 or $12 a month. They all have facial recognition to notify a person is in your yard.

I do, but before you buy one, here’s my view on 360 cameras…not enough detail for the money. They are great to capture general activity, but if you’re looking for any detail from your camera, go with more stationary cameras to get the result. They are great for small boutiques where you just want general surveillance, but they suck for pretty much everything else…plus, THEY ARE EXPENSIVE! Lol

Lorex is cheap crap. It’s poorly made, won’t do well in weather & It won’t last you more than a few (few is being generous) years. You’ll be replacing it over & over. Then there is the lack of support & customer service. Good luck if you have a problem with a Lorex product and need warranty support, because it’s not going to happen. I could go on and on. Does that satisfy your “????”???? People that praise Lorex don’t know any better & haven’t tried anything else. They will be changing their tune when they have them long enough to fail (which won’t be long). Our IP cameras have far superior night vision to any of the “drug dealer cameras” like Lorex. We start at 98 feet of night vision with Illuminite technology that provides color night vision. I don’t share links in KZbin comments for privacy purposes.

People talk about Wi-Fi jammers, but the instances of them being used is extremely rare. It’s usually a case where it’s a professional thief and they are targeting you. But to answer your question, best way to prevent them, is a wired. NVR system that doesn’t require Wi-Fi.
