I put a kwikset code lock on my back door recently. When I opened it up and started pulling all the parts out and all the instructions, it was a bit overwhelming to look at. But one youtube video was all it took and I had that thing slapped up in ten minutes lol. I need to file my strike plate a bit like you did, my deadbolt has a bit of resistance to it like that. And man, never stop doing the high pitch voice, it cracks me up every time lol
@jackt6595
@jackt6595 2 жыл бұрын
You don't want to have any resistance because it will wear down the batteries fast. If you ever see reviews complaining about battery life on these locks, it is because the deadbolt is rubbing and straining the motor.

Good for you man. got fed up and started your own gig. Hay man I’m happy for you. I’m right behind you. I was a locksmith in chicago 5 years ago. I’m embarrassed to tell you what I was making. Another thing people don’t understand is some customers are just a pain to deal with (callbacks) to explain what you had already explained clearly or a house swelling up/ abuse. You gotta charge.

Not sure which is funnier tonight - your thumbnail or your silly humor! Thanks for the laughs... 👍😆 Re the split pipe. What you SHOULD have done was bulldoze that side of the house, re-install the plumbing, then re-build the house around it. This way you could've easily reached the repair! ☝️😌

The first frost free I ever replaced for my Grandparents used a threaded adapter. I wasn't comfortable soldering. The problem is you can't keep tightening the frost free faucet until it stops leaking because then it won't line up correctly outside. I tried pipe dope, teflon tape, still leaked. So I followed up with using teflon tape AND pipe dope, and not a drippy drop! In my home last year I just soldered a new frost free on, no need for a threaded adapter, really doesn't help the process along at all unless you were using PEX or CPVC in which there's no copper to solder anyway. I'm also NEVER going to use a shark bite fitting, no thanks!

I have a love/hate relationship with smart locks. I have run into too many homeowners that have doors out of whack to where they have to push on the door extra hard or even lift up on the door knob to engage their current deadbolt. They often do not want to pay the extra labor of fixing the door first in order for the smart lock to smoothly function.

I install Smart locks for Best Buy and we install three of these at our house. My only regret is that Yale came out with another barometric smart lock that doesn't jam your finger between the door jam and the lock because of the short throw. You might be better off readjusting that to the long throw so that their finger doesn't jam

Does the exterior portion of the lock have some sort of ears that stop the whole assembly from being rotated? It just seems that with that lock being so tall above the lock hole, it would provide so much leverage so a strong individual could just put some muscle into the top of the assembly and twist it, shearing off the 2 screws that hold it all together. Haha I could be totally wrong but that was just my first though.
@legionofanon
@legionofanon 2 жыл бұрын
the mounting bolts for the smart locks still pass through the deadbolt latch assembly, just like your old door handles and deadbolts, so you can wiggle them a little bit, but you would not be able to get a full rotation out of the outside face. I couldnt see real well in the case of these bolts, but the one I installed at my house and my parents house, the bolts were thicker, so I dont think you would easily shear them off either

This is brilliant. So literally everything fits like standard deadbolt hardware and just a few simple connections done! Right?? I would love to do this as some solid side work. It looks pretty cookie cutter to understand. Are there any challenges to be aware of or can I start this right away? Love your easy instructions.

Yes, there are things you can run into that change that easy swap job into something way more involved unless you have the jigs. I'm sure that's why he asks for pics now. I do all the key swaps and lock swaps for 35 units, all of them are easy once we switched to the quick change deadbolts. I rarely have to re-pin a lock now, which is more expensive time wise.

When you provide your customers with quotes do they typically already have the box or product to install already or do they typically rely on you to make recommendations on what product/products to get? You said "links in the description" so that makes me think you told this customer to use that product but curious if that's the norm? THank you love your channel.

@Torbox1

I don't have a wifi/camera one, just one with a keypad and autolocking, the batteries last for a along time about 1 to 1.5 years for me so far. There is still a physical key hole under the little swinging door below the keypad if the batteries die while you are out.

I'd like to put a smart lock on my front door, but my door is a tight shut. As in, if you try to "throw" it closed, there's a chance it won't latch. There's resistance from the frame. Not overly confident in messing with the shims to fix the close. And from what I have seen, these locks are junk if there is any sort of resistance for the deadbolt.
