Had the chance to take a spin on this particular model during the smartime 07 event in Austria ( at zell am see). I was hoping for hard pulls but was a little disappointed by the fact that its use the same gearbox as the normal ones, killing all the fun. A shame when you know that brabus had a manual gearbox in house ready to be thrown in but denied by MB. A bit of sour experience. In the end what a chance to have been in it even for a short time but my regular 82 hp gives me all the essentials for far less money.

Can I think of the gearbox as the same as in the Brabus ForTwo of that time? I had a ridealong in that hoopty back in the days and it was horrifying. First you get pushed into your seat than it changes gears, driver stays on the gas but there is nothing for maybe 2 seconds so gravity pulls you out of the seat and when the gear shift is done it smashes you back into the seat. The most unpleasant feeling in a car I've ever had.

Its because mercedes benz were brain dead and dead set on eradicsting manuals form their line up. 90s and 2000s was twilight years of manuals and they were busy making them seem as choice for the poor limiting it out of higher trims and bigger engines. MB's idiocy is also what took away manuals from vast majority of vehicles other brands made. Both in premium space, grand tourers and sportscars. Fun estates/wagons with manuals were also quickly gone.

I love old Top Gear episodes. Too bad we never got this car in the US. I don't see anyone importing one any time soon. Even if they do there going to wait until it's 25 years old. Thanks.

Sadly it never actually went into production. I think they made 6 total as press vehicles. There was a Brabus version of the Smart Roadster but it was basically just a bodykit on the original

@@marley354 not at all I have one with over 330 000 km done with little costs. Great fun, no rust and no big problems. All day long on B roads and highway, no time to rest

Is not this setup what you usually call Twin turbo (same size turbos in a v6 feeding of 3 cylinder exhaust?) for me Bi turbo setup is two different size turbo's feeding from the same 6 cylinder exhaust but in a sequential style?

That’s how much it cost to develop. They never sold these. They went onto sell the Brabus roadster with updated everything. It’s a prototype, just like every other manufacturer makes

its called poetic licence... The moment you go into too much detail you lose the average viewer which is what Top Gear was trying to attract so yes, they oversimplfy things sometimes. The true petrolheads will go and find out how the engine is really built by themselves if they want to.
