That's awesome! I'm gonna make one for all the scales and modes. Harmonic minor, harmonic major, Hungarian minor, Hungarian major. Maybe more...

Jo, und wenn man es fertig gebastelt hat braucht mans nicht mehr, weil mans auswendig kann ;-)). Es is echt cool sich so Zeug auszudenken, weil man quasi nebenbei auch die Struktur und die Zusammenhänge rafft.

Hi Oliver, Thanks for this tutorial!If I can make a little suggestion, make the red notes in the inner circle a bit bigger and more visible on the black notes. I have pinted, laminated and assembled the wheel and it's great but can't see the red on black notes...See you on next tuto ! :)
@NewJazz6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I have made the red letters on the black keys more bright now. Is it better? www.newjazz.dk/xtra/mel_mi_tool.pdf Maybe you need to refresh the page with the pdf to see the difference...
@juliansolo18256 жыл бұрын
Hi Olivier, yes it is a bit better.I've noticed that I can't see well the red on black because I laminated it so I will make the wheel again but only with paper. :)Thanks!!
@CMM53004 жыл бұрын
Did you make this wheel for other scales already?

Yes, a subscriber "Uwe" redesigned the disc and made these similar tools represented in this lesson: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGLCiYiXd9dqbsk There is a separate tool for the Major, Melodic minor, Harmonic minor and Harmonic Major Modes. Uwe also created a single multi tool containing all the modes mentioned above. The multi tool is presented in this lesson: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmLbhWSViKuJZrs Best regards from Oliver

The difference between scales is not just the difference between the root note. For example,c ionian and d dorian share the same notes BUT what sets them apart is not the tonic c or d. What makes them different is characteristic notes/degrees. In other words,unique for ionian scale are 4 and 7 degree (in the context of tonic,note c). So,it is c + f and b Unique for dorian scale are 3 and 6 degree (in the context of tonic,note d). d+ f and b. F and B are the same in dorian and ionian BUT in c ionian, f&b create quart and seventh interval with note c and in d dorian,f&b create third and sixth interval with note d. Same notes but other intervals :) f&b are characteristic notes for almost all scales in the key of C major BEWARE!!! Except from the rule are lydian and locrian In f lydian b&e are characteristic notes in locrian c&f :)

Which notes are characteristic for A Melodic Minor and his Modes?
@NewJazz6 жыл бұрын
Hi :) This tool is about the melodic minor modes and not the church modes. The circle of church modes we make in another video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3vdaoF8m7yBY6s But you are so right - it's all about looking at the differens and the characteristics of the single modes. You ask about the ascending Melodic Minor mode - what are the characteristics? Try to look up for example the A melodic minor mode: Turn the upper disc so the a-note and the ascending melodic minor scale point together. Then we discover that the notes in the A melodic minor scale are a-b-c-d-e-f#-g#. So the ascending melodi minor scale starts as a natural minor scale but ends up as a major scale. Or the scale is almost like a Major scale except the third step which are a minor interval instead of a Major interval. I hope this was useful to you, and again thanks for your input :) Best regards Oliver

Honestly? English language is the hardest music is most difficult in English for me ;D Melodic,harmonic,natural...but double harmonic is still there and how to figure it out(in english)? This is a real challenge :D

Hi, do you have and harmonic minor circle? :-)

Ups - sorry. I was reading "melodic". I have not yet made a circle with harmonic minor. It could be very interesting to do that at some point...

Each mode is pointed out by all the other modes on the lower disc. At each mode there is a V-arrow. Best regards Oliver
