Smart Carb looks really well thought out AND well executed. Have used Lectron in the past, pretty good stuff. This looks better!

Thank you! There's really over 50 years of development behind the flat slide, metering rod style carburetor. Lectron is actually a predecessor to the SmartCarb. Same original inventor, only the SmartCarb is about 40 years more developed. The price is reflective of the materials used and the method of construction. CNC machining affords us the very precise tolerances required to maximize airflow and signal at the metering rod for extremely fine fuel atomization. That finer atomization results in a more complete and efficient combustion burn making more power using less fuel. That feature, when combined with external adjustability and ambient air density compensation for elevation, temperature, and humidity, applied to your 2004 GasGas would go a long way toward making it feel more like a 2020. Of course you retain the option of taking your SC2 SmartCarb to your new bike later on if you so choose.

@@jarenague you have made a good point regarding the price of the SC2 SmartCarb, however we are finding that many people with older and newer bikes are buying this carb. We sell into more than 50 countries and half of our US based direct sales are for international customers. The reason they buy the SmartCarb is because of the benefits it provides that no other carburetor can match. Spoken most simply the SmartCarb provides extremely fine fuel atomization and it is very easy to use. Very fine fuel atomization from the single circuit metering rod gives the user 10% or more horsepower on top, 30% greater fuel economy, and significantly reduced emissions (smoke, spooge). We guarantee these benefits and they are measured against a properly jetted stock or original carb. External adjustability lets you adjust the SmartCarb without needing any special tools and with most bikes you can do it from the seat. Once the carb is tuned to the engine's needs, no further adjustments are required for any air density factors. That's because the SmartCarb is internally vented, meaning airflow inside of the airbox vents the float bowl. Internal venting of the float bowl drives fuel flow proportional to air density (elevation, temperature, and humidity) and velocity (entire throttle range). Set it and forget it. Other benefits include linear and controllable power delivery due to its keyhole venturi shape, zero fuel spillage, no loading up on long downhills, and stock throttle cable acceptance. The SmartCarb provides the performance of fuel injection without the complexity.

@@jarenague I bought this carb and I have a old bike. 2000 ktm 380. My Keihin was dialed in perfect but this smart carb is better in every way x far. Worth every penny, fuel range has dramatically increased no more fuel anxiety. Jetting? What's that?? Set it and forget it then ride whenever and wherever. Its sealed so no fuel spillage, fuel is sacred to the smart carb so it will burn every drop efficienly. This is basically as good as fuel injection without the added weight, cost and headache of tpi. The single circuit design makes power crisp, linear with added bottom end grunt, feels like a tractor. it's predictable without being boring. I'm going to buy a new 2019 gasgas 300 and guess what? It's getting a SC2 as well. Don't think I'll ever go back to fiddling with stock mediocre carbs again. SC2 is the real deal

CNC machining precision is why we are able to provide more performance than any other carburetor available but it's also an expensive manufacturing process. To suggest we don't care about our customers is disingenuous. We are all riders ourselves and we do what we do to advance the state of this sport that we all love.

Hello Sabina, thank you for your interest. We would love to do an installation video for the TM 300, however it will need to be after the Beta 300 video we have planned. That said we have a good number of 2019 and 2020 TM300s running the SC2 SmartCarb with excellent results. Feedback tells us that the installation for those bikes may be the easiest of them all since their airboots are smooth throughout and do not require any trimming to clear the vent scoop.

The GasGas EC300 has historically come from the factory with a 38mm Keihin installed. We typically recommend replacing size for size with the SmartCarb, however there are a few notable exceptions. For example the 2017 and later KTMs/Huskies ship with 38mm Mikunis but we will recommend the 36mm size SmartCarb most of the time, especially if the bike is being used for enduro riding. For the GasGas on the other hand, even if used for enduro, we will almost always recommend the larger 38mm and that is because of the large, 6 bolt intake that those bikes have. The intake tract for the EC300 is fairly large compared to others and as such the larger 38mm size SmartCarb works better with it. That said a 36mm size would work just fine too, though it wouldn't give quite as much power increases on top.

Kantilil 33, the new 2020 300RR is the bike we’d like to do next. Currently working out the logistics of borrowing one for that purpose. We can tell you that so far the feedback on fitment and performance in the 2020s is excellent. We’re seeing a lot of interest from the Beta community and we have TPS for the oil injected bikes as well. Do follow along, more to come!

That is a 2018-19 GasGas. 2020 is a red KTM.

You may be correct on the year and we may need to change our description. The practical differences regarding SmartCarb fitment and engine characteristics between the 2018-2020 models are minimal and we trust that this video remains a good resource for owners of these bikes looking for guidance with SmartCarb installation. We picked it up new in September/October 2019 which is about when the new model year 2020 bikes became available, but it could have been a carry-over from the prior year. GasGas did make a 2020 lineup before KTM acquired it, so there is a 2020 Spanish-made GasGas EC300. The red KTMs started with model year 2021, officially launched in September 2020.

Why buy a SmartCarb when you can buy a Lectron which is just as good and Cheaper.

Lectron would like you to think that, but no, it's not "just as good" as the SmartCarb. Compared to SmartCarb, Lectrons make less power, are soft on throttle response down low, they don't compensate for as wide of changes in elevation/temperature, they don't fit as well being longer end-to-end, they don't use stock throttle cables, they're not externally adjustable without tools and they have less than half the adjustment resolution, they have the choke on the wrong side, and they can't meet emissions requirements using that powerjet. Their latest HV and H Series models are all 4mm smaller than advertised which obviously reduces their peak flow and peak performance potential. The SmartCarb has nearly 40 years on the Lectron and offers a number of improvements that put it into its own league above the Lectron which is just one of its predecessors.
