UPDATE FOR 2019 MODELS: there have been issues with some kick starters, Gas Gas is fixing these under warranty. There still seem to be very few issues, one guy has reported his fork guards have been rubbing against the forks so keep an eye out for that.

THE NEW RIEJU MODELS! The old Gas Gas models have continued under a new name - Rieju. For 2021, the models have only minor changes so this review will still applicable. As of 2021, Rieju still has only made minor changes. Unfortunately the heavy weight persists. They haven't changed the unreliable e-start, although we hear it's bathed in oil now which should help a bit. The engines are still soft at the lower revs. But if the price is cheap, we think it's still a good option in the two stroke market! Unfortunately they are priced not much less than the competition in Australia... so why pay so much for a six year old design? If you don't know about Rieju, read below... Unfortunately KTM is becoming a huge multinational trying to buy up the competition, such as Gas Gas. The good news? Rieju in Spain has bought the intellectual and industrial property used to build GasGas enduro models which will continue under the RIEJU brand. And the Ranger will continue as the Rieju MR300 Ranger! adbmag.com.au/editorial/rieju-to-manufacture-enduro-models-on-gasgas-platform/ The investment made by RIEJU will see the GasGas 300 two-stroke as we know it today manufactured under the RIEJU brand at its plant in Figueres, Spain. Distribution of new bikes will start in June. Rumours are circulating that suggest RIEJU is currently updating the platform to modernise a few key aspects including relocating the starter motor. Jordi Riera, CEO of RIEJU, S.A. said “This agreement allows RIEJU an immediate presence in the off-road competition segment with larger capacity machines than usual for Rieju, as well as a significant expansion of our client portfolio, and important openings to new markets. We are very excited for this new adventure and the enormous challenge that this entails. We have enormous experience in our design, manufacture and distribution structure, so we are convinced that this project will be a success for our company." RIEJU was founded in 1934 and currently manufactures more than 12,000 motorcycles annually in its facilities in Figueres near Barcelona and exports 85% of its production to more than 40 countries. It’s known for producing small-to-mid capacity scooters, trailbikes and roadbikes.

Is 50:1 the recommended premix ratio on these bikes?
@crosstrainingenduro6 жыл бұрын
no idea michel, this was just a test ride.
@progammler6 жыл бұрын
yeah that's what you should go with. The piston will be fine even if you use a little less but the bearings can overheat. So I recommend you stick with 1:50 for GG. My dealer told me 1:60 would be fine but I have seen images of discolored crankshafts that changed my mind...although that was 10 years ago so maybe that has changed. It also depends on your riding style, if you never rev the engine 1:50 might actually get you lots of carbonized deposits.
@0cernnunos06 жыл бұрын
so your dealer told you actually to use more oil for a given amount of gasoline (greater ratio of oil). 1 liter of oil for 50 liter of gasoline versus 1 liter of oil versus 40 liter of gasoline or am I misreading the values.

@crosstrainingenduro6 жыл бұрын
jody touched on the jetting issue. i think many of the euro bikes are jetted rich for european conditions, so can chew fuel in hotter climates? can't confirm this for gas gas models though.
@truckingfun50336 жыл бұрын
I bought the 2018 EC300, and my brother got a 2018 Beta 300rr. We both noticed the Gas Gas burns a lot more fuel especially when on more open trails at higher rpm’s. The Gas Gas came from the factory of course jetted very rich for our normal riding elevation of 500 to 2,800 ft above sea level, but the JD jet kit did a very good job of solving that issue. Still thirsty though compared to the Beta..... I feel the KYB suspension makes up for that 👍
@brianh84846 жыл бұрын
Rode with a guy this past November and he was on his Re-jetted GG 300 and me on my 17 Ktm 250xc with a Lectron. He sucked down a whole tank and had to bail back to the truck and I had barely used half (both stock tanks) on mine. Terrain was a mix of super technical and wide open. My Lectron is super economical.

@bigshnitzeljesse4 жыл бұрын
Rich jetting only uses a little more fuel since you'd quickly foul plugs at say 5-10% more fuel. Throttle body fuel injection is barely more efficient than correctly jetted carbs on 2 strokes because of the wild journey that fuel takes before entering the combustion chamber. A friend might run at higher RPMs and go through fuel faster

Hmmm curious to see how that starter setup works out in the long run. Seeing that but not knowing much about it and not really having a way to learn more about it before hand is what swayed me away from buying the 18 ec300. Was real close to pulling the trigger on one on account of the kyb suspension were it not for that starter. Maybe it'll prove to be reliable though, I hope so. My next bike could very well be a gas gas after this '18 xcw.
@crosstrainingenduro6 жыл бұрын
it was the only thing that concerned me too. it seems to be a similar design to the old KTM ones that caused so much grief, but jody the mechanic reckons the gas gas design is way more solid. but still still not as reliable as the under the motor design everyone else is using.

JoeJoe Moto Some issues make a bike not worth buying. Buying a new bike should be an upgrade and an upgrade worth the much more money spent. Kyb is fine but anyone could buy a 17 ktm, husky, Beta for even earlier years and have a better estart and save a bunch of money doing it.

Ahhh my eyes! Please please please do your videos in 50/60fps. (i think 50hz is a euro thing?) I don't think there is an LED screen in existence anymore that is less that 50/60hz. Including phones, tablets and computer monitors. 30fps on a 60hz screen looks terrible in comparison to 60fps. Alot of us have 144hz+ screens...and that looks even worse. You can buy 165 and 240hz monitors now....for the love of knobbies, please use 60fps as default. 30fps has no place in action sports/dirt riding videos.

I tend to agree... but there were no Chinese made bikes in this vid. These models are now sold under the Spanish brand, Rieju. They currently manufacture more than 12,000 motorcycles annually in their factory in Spain and export 85% of production to more than 40 countries. Possibly some parts are made in China? That's happening with many brands nowadays. 😢
