Great video! Thank you for all of your time and generosity. For someone doing the repair process from the start, I would suggest backing up the phone first, and running down the battery to 25% charge or less to make working around the Lithium Ion battery a bit safer. Also, if you are replacing the lightning port/mic assembly, there are two white dots on the inside of the case that you align with the two holes in the flexible PCB of the assembly.

Hey great video, it’s a pretty involved process for this one but im disappointed to say that after installing my new bottom port and microphone. I was able to use the microphone intermittently until i restarted my phone. All other parts of the component works just fine. :( I imagine that this is a weird Apple Apple problem. At least I swapped the battery while I was at it.

First off great video! I thought I was to the point of needing to do this. (Background) I’m a mechanic and my iPhone 7 is regularly around metallic dust and debris. I’ve heard to never use compressed air but I figured if I’m down to replacing the mic what do I have to loose.. so I gave it a couple quick blasts from 4-5 inches away and it’s completely fixed my mic problems. I was having extremely static sounding mic problems and Siri would not work at all. Siri now listens better than she has in a long time and the mic is crystal clear. I’m not a phone tec so I don’t really know how potentially damaging this could be to your phone but hell it worked for me! Didn’t cost anything and took 30 seconds

after you put the new mic, you need to reset the system by turning off the phone then press and hold the power button and the menu button for 10 seconds

You’re welcome. It’s just a reseal your screen so hopefully it’ll retain the water resistance. It’s up to you on that. It won’t be as perfect as factory but it’ll probably help for that.

One of the most common failures on iPhones and as you can see it’s the first part to go in during assembly, so it’s one of the hardest repairs to make lol genius Bastards! By the way try shooting the port with some compressed air before doing this repair, you just may save yourself a bit of grief😉

Thank you, good video. Warning, after market USB charging dock ribbons may cause a boot loop. Newer iphones detect counterfeit parts. Before installing, turn off iphone, plug in the new ribbon and restart it. If it restarts, test all mics and charging function, then you are probably okay.

Wow it sounds like you have both microphones acting up. I think I would replace this one first and see if it solves all the problems if not I believe the other one is in the front camera assembly so you would probably have to swap that one out too but I would do this one first and see.

Hey, a little question I have an iPhone 7 and I have recently had a problem with calling, I can call people but when the person on the opposite line answers, they can not hear me, and on the caller end, I can neither hear or talk to them. That’s weird that you can’t hear them or talk to them. It sounds like you may have to replace both if that’s the case. For sure the bottom microphone sounds bad if they can’t hear you and it doesn’t work on speaker. I’d try that first and see if it still has issues with the other before replacing both.

Yes this bottom microphone should be the one that you are talking about. Sounds like its faulty. If it was like FaceTiming or something it would be the upper one built into the front camera assembly.

Well it is taking a risk. Some screws are longer and some shorter. Some are bigger diameter too so you can get an idea pretty soon that they aren’t going to fit. You can try doing a search and see if someone has made a graph with them all laid out by length etc.

I don’t know if it will fix it since that sounds like a software issue. Maybe you could try factory resetting your phone the only thing is you will lose all your data.

My mic’s stopped working when I updated to iOS 11, on twitter it appears many people have experienced this. Will I be able to use the mic again if I physically replace it?

I’m not sure I haven’t heard that. You could maybe try factory resetting your phone to see if that fixes it. You would lose all your data though. It sounds like a software issue though instead of a hardware issue. Or try uninstalling Twitter restarting the phone and reinstalling it first.

I really don’t know because they are built into the flex cables. It seems like the rest of the functions would still work but you could potentially do damage to other functions by removing them from the flex cable.

I believe it’s a little different on the 7+ but I’ve never had one apart to confirm. Screw placement and connector placement may be different but the steps should be pretty similar.
