I give the software credit for at least doing what is advertised such as the random password generator. However, there are still ways to the same without requiring the Ask Toolbar (which is probably where they get revenue and the core reason they want you to use their software).

Minddspark's background image for that secuity page is actually pretty cool. Just rotate it 90 degrees CCW and add a white background, use as-is. If you invert it, you can mix it down to any colour you like and it actually looks good. You can also experiment with mixing down to a colour you want to invert to (use a colour you want in another document and invert, aim for that) and probably come out with good coloured results there too.

rogue why dont you switch to keepass? you can import your lastpass data and you have shortcuts to autotype the username and passwords (even in stuff that isnt chrome)

because keepass requires keeping hold of a stupid file, and i lost mine in a freak accident where my one usb stick i was trying to image a windows iso to died and i grabbed the one that had my keepass file and imaged it, not realizing until after i hit yes to the format. lastpass being cloud based allows me to not have that issue, and the browser extension is nice

Theres plugins for backing your file up to Google Drive/Dropbox, plus you can set triggers that occur every time you load your database to save it to multiple places. if you're like me and actually CARE about your files then you wont lose any of them.

Other way to be safe: Make your usernames different from site to site. Example: Let's say your facebook account's password was stolen. The password guesser won't be able to look at your twitter and think to use your facebook password, because if your username and other account information is different, the won't know you're the same person.

+Kindle Not exactly, once somebody knows your password they'll probably throw it into a list of passwords for cracking and a database of reverse hash lookups for popular hashing functions. Most sites should salt your passwords anyway, but some still don't... Some don't seem to even hash them at all, looking at small MAX PASSWORD LENGTH limitations. (That shouldn't even exist! If you want to avoid DoS attacks you can limit it to 1000 chars or so, long passwords won't hurt anything on your server [unless you don't hash them])
