I want to see the speed of the ball hitting the club slowly elevated until the club fails. This would show the maximum exit velocity of a ball from a golf club. Longest drive would be influenced by firmness of the ground the ball landed on, the angle of attack into the golf ball, the launch angle, and the backspin of the ball.

Ideal launch angle would be 45°, so you can calculate the angle of attack of the club from that, and that's two variables down (assuming flat ground with nothing you need to launch the ball over)

I’m an avid baseball fan and in the last few seasons there has been a record amount of home runs being hit and I am attributing that to the baseballs being made differently to increase their “springiness” off the bats. After watching this video I would be really intrigued if you could test a ball made even 10 years ago vs now to see if there is a difference in how far each one could travel.

People thought I was crazy as a kid. I've kind of lost my will to experiment and do hobbies as an adult but I'm still really interested in everything. Also, I didn't know golf balls deformed like that. That's crazy. And that's my problem with golf - the few times I've swung an actual golf club (and not a little putt golf club), I can't hit the ball. I hit the ground usually. This was all pretty awesome.

@@ministerc9513, but he did say the vacuum is not powerful enough to test the strength. He initially wanted to find the limits of the ball, so recorded himself saying that. But when he did the test, he found out that he can't find it using the equipment they currently have. Also, this won't be fake news since he didn't give a fake strength, for this to be fake news. Even if the title was "Finding the Strength of Golf Ball", it wouldn't be wrong since that's was the motto of the video, but ultimately they couldn't. This is Science and you can't compare unanswered questions in these Science videos to those clickbait videos on YT, which may seem similar but they genuinely try to bait people unlike Dustin. You can compare the flow in the is video to actual real life science experiments. But you are right in that they should have used the new golf ball as the thumbnail, even tho the old one is also a golf ball and makes for a better thumbnail(Just my opinion). It makes it seem from the title that a golf ball at 500mph has deformed that way.

@@daniel-hh4jn Incorrect: The 2000lb steel manhole cover from the Pascal B underground test of a 64.6 lb Plutonium Pit Nuclear Bomb was ejected at many times escape velocity. When Mark noticed that the golf ball was hot, it would have been awesome for you guys to point a thermal imaging camera at the impact zone so that we'd be able to see the transfer of energy from motion to heat as the ball was deccelerated by the anvil, and also the heat generated on the club head where it deformed & failed. Perhaps the thermal image would show the heat spiking where the failure points were on the ball (ie the tearing point) and also where the club failed. I also noticed when it deformed elasitcally, black lines appear on the ball where the deformation was most extreme, where the ball expanded to its maximum circumference. Perhaps this was an early sign of fatigue on the plastic? Regardless, amazing video as always! Thank you for making science & engineering awesome Destin & Mark!
