Reminder to self to not allow wife and kids to watch this video ("Its not personal, its business!" 😅). The automated bar reminds me of a similar video Rob made on his channel ("The Hook up" for his ultra short throw projector. Reed - you should totally do something like that with your Optoma - then maybe you can convince your wife and kids how productive you have been (j/k) 🙃. Keep up the great work!

I do maintenance at a night club, and we have a huge problem with people messing with the thermostats, we end up with one or two of the six thermostats being on heat, opposite of the others, so finally was able to make an automation so that if any thermostat gets changed, they all change with it. No more watching them fight it out while the electricity bill suffers.

Withings makes a sleep tracker mat that goes under your mattress. It has pressure and vibration sensors and works with Home assistant. In case people don't want to diy the sensor. I got it on sale boxing day for $70CAD plus about $30 for shipping, taxes and customs fees. Normally I think it's around $150+tx etc.

You mentioned in your video that if you had a kitchen vent that opened you would set it to increase the audio on your alexa device. You could use a smart plug with power monitoring and plug your vent into that and use a webcore script to monitor power usage when power rises above a certain level just open/close a alexa vittual contact switch and have that trigger a alexa routine to increase the volume , then the reverse with it drops below a set level. I do this with several different devices around my house, tv, humidifier, etc. Not sure you could do this as you have a custom vent, my vent just plugs into a power plug inside the cabinet its mounted to so easy for me
@MiChAeLoKGB2 жыл бұрын
If he has a vent that is wired directly and does not mind having some fun with the wiring, then a Shelly EM could be used for power monitoring.

Hello! Im writing to you from Hungary, and I would like to ask you for a question. I’m kinda new in home automation so I would like to ask a thing. I have an Echo Dot 4, and a Xiaomi smart hub. I have some stuff connected together, but I don’t have a camera yet. I’m planning to buy a camera with 360 view but obviously I can change the view manually. What do you think, if I’m putting this camera let say above my front door (in the middle of front wall), and putting two Xiaomi motion sensors to each corner of front wall. Can I setup the camera to turn that way where a motion will be detected? Or do you prefer to instal more cameras?

Automations over setup (might send video across): - The same temp lowering on thermostat with energy bills going bonkers - Motion lights using CCTV, ZigBee light switch and Frigate to MQTT. - Notify to Google Speaker what bins are due to be emptied next day - Notify when washing machine/dryer is finished and send push notification to tell you. Turns off auto after 30 mins to stop Spinning on dryer - Using CCTV camera to notify when someone is coming on drive. - Using motion sensors around house and selective smart bulbs, dim the lights late at night to not wake you up when going bathroom

Hi! Great videos! - a great help !!! I have a Aqara Vibration Sensor + HomeKit (+Pushcut app if thats any use) - I wanted an automation to do something when the washing machine stops detecting motion - issue I am having is that when the machine stops during the cycle this triggers the alert so I wanted something just when its finished completely - any ideas? - thanks!

Add a condition like "when no vibration for x minutes" then trigger the notification. So a short period of no vibration won't trigger it anymore.

Our dishwasher routine isn't nearly that cool. We have a dirty/clean magnet, but I also made an alexa routine so I just say "Alexa I did the dishes" and it says "OK I'll tell s****(my teen)" and then it waits 4 hours, then turns their smart bulb orange. They won't allow an alexa in their room. 😆

cat vs sprinkler: i wouldn't use a sprinkler, i'd use something that can aim the water at the critter. should be effective against all kinds of critters: cats, pigeons, burglars... looks like your wife got her revenge at the end :-)
@liamgriffith2 жыл бұрын
Would be interested to hear how you would dot that. I do have another automation in this set up that just waters the grass too!
@mrxmry32642 жыл бұрын
@@liamgriffith You can analyse the camera picture to find out where the critter is in the video, then use that info to find out where it is in the real world (direction and distance), then aim the water cannon in that direction, compensate for gravity and FIRE! And if you've done everything right, the critter gets soaked before it even knows what's happening :-) and will hopefully think twice about coming back :-) BTW, Matthias wandel has a video on his channel where he built a contraption (out of Lego?) to shoot bottle caps at squirrels. Problem was, that thing was too noisy, the squirrels ran away before it could acquire a target. But it worked great with his kids :-)
@liamgriffith2 жыл бұрын
@@mrxmry3264 That would be awesome to have it targeting the little buggers. I do like to keep my automations as simple as possible though. What you can’t see in the video is a second impact sprinkler running off the same Eve Aqua, which blasts the cats at closer range. I found that having two spread apart compensated for the noise alerting the cats. Simple redundancy with 95% accuracy and nightly entertainment ;-)
