@@TheAlphapuck5280 @Alpha Puck well it's good to hear from someone daily driving it that it's serving their purposes. I watched all the reviews when it came out and reviewers unanimously bashed the battery life. I had a pixel 2 that I loved, but battery life wasn't amazing on it compared to my past phones. MKBHD said in his own review that iPhone 13 Pro got like 8 hours of screen on time and the pixel 6 pro with a bigger battery got 3.5-4.5 hours of screen on time. It's not unusable by any means, but phone battery is a huge consideration, and I'd hate to disable high refresh on the screen to make to the end of the day. OnePlus should have been an honourable mention in "bust of the year" award, they released so much crap this year The OnePlus 9R was unnecessary, they could have just put the 870 in the 9 and kept it's pricing close to the 9R. Then the Nord 2 would have made more sense at its price point, and they could have put in a 120hz display with a smaller bezel, while the rest of the package remains same, and pricing it a bit higher. The Nord CE was completely unnecessary and it wasn't unique at all, not to mention it didn't even get the alert slider, a standard in OnePlus phones till now. I don't think they could have sold many units too. Sad to see OnePlus dip so much, they used to be mentioned almost every year as an MVP, but this year not a single mention was made, and i kind of agree with that sentiment. I think the Pixel 6 should've been the winner for "The Most Improved Award". The improvements between the Pixel 5 and 6 were way larger than ones between S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra ever were. At the very least, it deserved an honorable mention.
@doriansorzano2 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with honorable mention. My friend bought the s20 ultra 4 months before they announced the 21 ultra. Literally everything he complained about using the phone was fixed in the s21 ultra. I got the s20 plus because i heard the plus was the best buy. The pixel 6 is light-years away from the 5 in terms of what it can do. But there was nothing truly wrong with the 5.
@wisdomyaw032 жыл бұрын
I'm sure what he means by "most improved" has to do with the iterative upgrades and overall refinement of what was released last year, instead of overhaul design and spec change( which the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro did well this year)
@wingsuitzero2 жыл бұрын
@@wisdomyaw03 why would an overhaul in design mean it shouldn’t be considered for the “most improved”? S20 Ultra to the S21 Ultra was just camera tweaks to fix the cameras. While the Pixel 6 is a complete rebound for the series. I don’t think a spec change with their own processor and a design change with the cameras should exclude it. That honestly should be expected for improving a phone that needed so many improvements. One could say the S20 didn’t need that much improvements. Just needed the camera imperfections to be fixed

@KNAX_NO4H Funny fact about the tech world I've learnt is that the best technically isn't always the preferred in reality. Can anyone provide details of which has sold more units between the SG S21U and the 13PM? Those numbers might just tell a different story.
@dongaking2 жыл бұрын
@KNAX_NO4H You obviously support that the 13PM deserves this award, so I guess the bottom line is that the subjectivity to choosing the 'best' smartphone is beyond just the technical functionality alone. The sales stats supports my speculations too in that the higher sales might depict the better of the 2 devices but we're in agreement that this has nothing to do with sales of the products.

Samsung has really been doing a great job at listening to it’s customers, or at least to MKBHD, on what their improvements should be, to the point of making the S21Ultra the MKBHD phone by excellence (not saying the awards were biased). They didn’t take 2 or 3 years like Apple did to improve their phones, to add the features everyone is talking about (talking mostly about the refresh rate), and with Samsung, who has more than 1 flagship phone, this actually transcends to all of their line up. They might be expensive, but they are actually listening. I really think you did a great job with these awards, and have a great criteria for judging. I wouldn’t go to any other techtuber for these kind of awards.

Did you change to a Google Pixel phone? How is it?
@tsarbomb_chan25372 жыл бұрын
@@liteknight Yeah, 5 months now. Initially I was happy, camera good, battery ok, performance decent. My only issues were some of the apps that need tweaking or they just need to work better. Built-in YT music player pushes you to buy YT premium every chance it gets and when I try ti play music from my memory playlist it sometimes just doesn't play the music and I have to restart my phone. Recently I began noticing overheating during the heatwave, I was on video call and for quite long time it was so hot that I had to put it down next to a fan because it shut down my wifi so the phone couldn't overheat. Also, the fingerprint scan does not work as fast and has sometimes trouble detecting even if you put your finger in slight angle. I think the main issues comes from Google being unable to provide as good apps or optimisation as Samsung does. I used to use Galaxy S8 before for 5 years, and with this phone I'm not sure I'll stick to it for 5 years. Unless Google starts making some needed improvements to their system.

While a really cool looking phone, the HTC made Nexus 1 was the definition of a "mixed bag". 🤷 While the price was absolutely INCREDIBLE for an off-contract full-fat smartphone in that era, the lack of full multi-touch for most of its core relevant lifespan (caused by legal battles w/ Apple reasons) was a MASSIVE problem, its RGBG PenTile OLED had absolutely AWFUL text clarity, and the Android Market was in an absolutely DIRE STATE vs the Apple App Store at that moment in time. IMO, it really wasn't until Gingerbread/Samsung's Nexus S and ESPECIALLY the Galaxy SII (aka 2011) where Android REALLY came into its own as a legit competitor to Apple's iPhone/iOS (then called iPhone OS). Prior to that landmark moment in tech history though (aka the very first time people & reviewers were legitimately claiming that an Android was "currently the world's best phone"), the only reason to buy one was if your carrier literally didn't support the iPhone 3G/3GS yet. Ala Verizon and the hugely successful Motorola Droid (Android 2.0's launch device). Once the gorgeous & than lightning fast Galaxy SII landed though & the iPhone 4 officially went CDMA, things got a LOOOOT more complicated!

As someone who owns the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, knowing how much recognition this phone got really made me proud of my choice. Last year I owned an iPhone and since 2008 have always been with Apple, so I was looking for a phone to easily transition away from Apple. Originally I was going to buy the OnePlus 9 Pro because of how well the 8 Pro was well received but after hearing the meh reviews when it dropped I had to sit on it for a few days and that's when I decided to go get S21 Ultra. One of The Best Decision I Made This Year, I love this phone so much and there are so many great features with it. In fact, I am writing this comment on my S21 Ultra! Definitely worth the premium price 👌

So I asked how to get a service they said "you need to set it up through the phone". Hello, screens broke. So I went and bought this a Galaxy and I really don't think I'll ever go back. I've been using iPhones exclusively since the 3G because I really liked iOS and don't want to switch. It's great knowing that whenever I decide to upgrade I'll be able to get a really good phone with an improved but familiar experience and all of my data will transfer seemlessly. I haven't used a Galaxy but my guess is the experience is probably the same.
@nasidctg2 жыл бұрын
@@TheStatisticalPizza I understand and it actually is a very similar seamless experience when you upgrade. I have always been a tech lover regardless of the brand though I have been using the Note for the last 3 years and upgraded each year except this one as they skipped it. My wife has been using an Iphone and has been upgrading for the last 3 years. The truth is, in everyday use it is extremely hard to find a real flaw in any of them. They wont fail you and actually does what is advertised. The cameras are so similar yet so different. I go back and forth when shooting photos or videos, its like I now know which situation demands which camera 😅 At the end of the day I must say I am really impressed. I used the Huawei p30pro for a year before buying the Note and I must say though the Huawei was a flagship it actually wasn’t a very pleasant experience overall for the price I paid. Yes the night mode was brighter but brighter doesn’t always mean better and the portrait shots were bad. Both the Iphone and Galaxy gives you a well rounded and balanced experience and what ever you are trying to do, they won't fail you and keep you satiafied. My Note 20 ultra is still as snappy vivid as the day I got it. After using the huawei I feel like calling a product a flagship doesn’t actually make it a flagship experience. For that you either get an Iphone or a top shelf Galaxy.

I really missed a „most sustainable“ or „repairability“ category. I know the Fairphone 4 not available in the US but we really need such a category that companies have to take action on this. The chips are fast enough, the cameras are good enough, the screens are snappy enough. Now its time to focus on how build it that its easily repairable. Now its time to improve the recycling process. This list is to be continued…
@propersod23902 жыл бұрын
Bruh who cares? That phone is a literal scam. Imagine if samsung or someone released a phone with a budget chipset, terrible cameras, terrible 60hz lcd screen and so on and priced it at $650 or whatever that phones price is. "oH bUt ItS rEpAiRaBlE" 😂😂😂 yea because normal phones totally aren't repairable like i definitely can't just take my phone into a repairshop and get it repaired

@@ThePepsicola1995 Yea I can do it myself, I think everyone has a screwdriver and a hair dryer/heat gun at home don't you think? But why would I do it myself if I'm more comfortable giving it to a repairshop? Literally no one repaired their own phones back then when phones were "repairable" and that will never change. Yes, samsung makes all of their devices in taiwan, vietnam and south korea and I have not heard a single report of the workers conditions being bad 😂 but alr

I honestly would have given it to the Xcover Pro because hotswap battery plus decent specs. Fairphone was a letdown in the spec department, I wish them luck though because that is the innovation we need now
@tubester3582 жыл бұрын
@@propersod2390 I guess you haven't been following the right to repiar discussion and law additions with Apple and their phones? And Microsoft doing similar things with their latest surface products? Yes, some companies make it by design difficult or impossible to repair it yourself or at a repair shop without definitely compromising or damaging the device, e.g. Apple makes custom screws that require proprietary tools from them, and if a repair shop wanted the tools & manual they had to sign a terrible one-sided agreement that they're better off without. Some, after all that, will make software changes to a device that had a part replaced for example And you call it a scam if a phone is pricier because it's more sustainable, it's a scam when a phone appears cheap but has a lot of hidden costs, from environmental costs to labour costs to privacy/security & long term support. There's plenty to consider, you don't have to partake if you don't personally care
@games25072 жыл бұрын
Honestly Samsung deserve it so much this year : Their S21 Ultra is still a standard to be compared with, being still able to compete with others almost a year later. Their Foldable lineups are really getting attractive and the Z Flip 3 is considered to be selling like hot cakes at its scale. Plus they're really pushing innovation with water resistance, glass, and Spen compatibility. AND they're truly setting a trend when we see a lot of MAJOR brands are launching/will launch their copy of Z Fold and Z Flip phones...
