That would be cool but with a DSLR, the RAW files will need to be edited so it wont be fair against a phone. This is one of my favorite pieces of content you put out every year! I learn a lot about my own preferences, and it's always interesting to see what others like. A few things that would be super cool to see next year: 1. Normal and night mode landscapes, both in orientation and subject. Ideally, this would be additional categories for non-people night/day shots (I think it's very useful to have night portraits). Night portrait in dark city/outside of a club style conditions would be ideal. 2. A portrait mode group photo with people of as many skin tones/undertones as possible. 3. Maybe when you're done voting or released with this video, a reference photo for each category from a crazy good camera like the Alpha 1, with everything adjusted as perfectly as possible in post to match reality.

Except that the experiment is really baddly conducted. An elo and all of that is nice but you have 3 photos and all of them is about a person with black skin. For many people it's not a regular setup: no landscape, no white or asian, no animal. To me it has no value at all

I would also point out a category of lets say "reasonable effort". Like for all of the Tests, just tap once on Marques' face to let the phone focus and adjust brightness as necessary. Reasonable effort - because in the end the people pixel peeping here want best pictures, not lowest effort.

Can we get a comparison video similar to this for video? @Maxoverpower11 ай бұрын
Raves aren't something they're gonna test of course, but here's a relevant hint just in case you have a Pixel 7 or later, possibly applicable to other phones: To capture the best possible representation of the contrast you can use HDR video, but it's important to go into manual controls and reduce the exposure by about 1.5 ticks (out of the 5 total), this will fix the issues HDR mode has by default where shadows are overly bright and show jarring noise, with highlights very much clipping. With this setup, dark areas stay dark while the lasers get brighter than they ever could with SDR. In my experience, sharing this file through a messenger with re-compression will usually tonemap the video to SDR in a pretty good way, where shadows are kept almost the same, while highlights are as bright as SDR can get, leading to better contrast than shooting in SDR originally.

On my Xperia 5 III I definetily have to work for the shot if it isn't in good lighting. In really dark conditions I have gotten some quite impressive results with long exposures. The auto mode very often also overexposes the photo, so I often have to go to program auto and lower the exposure. I've tried a OnePlus 11 aswell and it can deliver some really good pictures in just auto, but especially in low light I hate the "make night into day" night mode.
