Any real photographer will tell you that the camera which produces the most accurate results is also the most preferable. You can always edit a photo to get a desired look, but you want to make sure that any image you're working with was accurate to begin with.

I dont wanna start a war here, but every photographer knows that even a shitty smartphone can take great pictures. It all depends on what u expect from it. I dont expect my phone to take lowlight shots and i dont expect a lot of bokeh (background blur) and when it comes to processing i dont wanna mess around with a shitty jpeg after each picture. I want the smartphone camera to do that for me otherwise i would shoot RAW
@JamesV849 жыл бұрын
Thank you for making this *MKBHD*! There are way too many people that just think more megapixels means better camera. Smartphone cameras are getting a lot better, but due to restrictions of the sensor size in them, it will be forever before they can produce the same quality as a DSLR for example :)

@dr.wumbo85526 жыл бұрын
onee That's one thing that has always been bad about budget smartphones, the camera. No matter how good the phone is you can almost always tell the difference between a flagship phone and a budget phone by the camera. And it's all because of the profit. Obviously the company wants to make a lot of profit but they have to start at a budget phone level because they don't got the reputation like Samsung and Apple have. So if they want to become the next Samsung or Apple they need to make a good smartphone that's still kinda cheap and they still want to make money. But good cameras take a lot of money not just for the hardware but the software too because you have to pay someone to code the software for that. Hope this helps😁

"more isn't better" When it comes down to picture quality, if the hardware and software are similar, the higher megapixel count will produce much better pictures. Sorry guys, Megapixel count does matter.
@ZacDonald9 жыл бұрын
+Sergio Velasco, Not really with most phone sensors. If the lens is letting in the same amount of light, and the senor is the same size and similar spec, just a 10 megapixel and a 15 megapixel version, the image will basically look the same when you scale the either image up/down, you wont really get increased detail and clarity, because you'll get more noise with the higher megapixel version due to the less light per sensor pixel.
@servel28 жыл бұрын
Zac D Do explain why most DSLR cameras are 20-30+ MP instead of being 10-15mp. There's a whole episode of Pocketnow weekly dedicated to camera sensor and picture quality. I recommend you watch it, a higher megapixel count is always better than a lower megapixel count. Obviously MP count isn't the the epitome of why a camera is good, but it is always good to have a higher megapixel count if possible.
@ZacDonald8 жыл бұрын
Because DSLRs don't have to worry about all the extreme limitations of cellphone cameras (cost, size, depth, amount of light), when a cellphone sensor, you are typically trading number of megapixels with quality/accuracy/noise of those pixels. It's really a balancing act. As sensors get better or larger, you can get more megapixels while keeping or improving the quality of the image. With flagship cellphones they are all using very similar senors and they are all making similar trade offs. With DSLRs there's so much more variation in quality and size of sensors, and people are willing to pay the price premiums for better sensor, but not many people are going to pay an extra $100-200 for a better cellphone camera.
@kahiri78mohdidris538 жыл бұрын
+Sergio Velasco geez another guy that doesnt know how sensor inside of the camera works. Firstly: 1. There will always a different between brands in terms of sensor design. Even though many models might have sma pixel count. 2. Pocketnow is not a calibre photography website. You should go to something like DP review or Photography Life. Don't believe why big sensor with less pixel are better than small sensor with 20mp or more like you mentioned? Well take a nikon D4 with only 16mp vs nikon d610 with 20 plus mp side by side in low light to compare. You can straight away tell which the clear winner

1. Larger sensor size does not improve low light performance because the lens will need to spread out the light over a larger surface area which lowers the intensity. The result is that each receptor gets exactly the same amount of light. 2. Fewer, larger photoreceptors leads to less noise per inividual pixel but more, smaller receptors give more samples. This means that resolution-normalized measured SNR for the full photo is the same. 3. The aperture number does not tell you how much light the lens collects, it tells you how large the aperture is relative to the focal length, as a result, a camera with f/1.4 could collect LESS light than one with f/4.0 if the sensor size is not the same. To demonstrate; the iPhone 6s has aperture f2.2 which is equivalent to f/16 on a lens design for full frame. This is due to the crop factor of 7.21 in the iPhone. First time viewer. Thanks so much for the explanations. I'm not big on most cell phones as far as features except camera and calling. Have been trying to find a decent inexpensive android phone that takes decent photos. You just helped immensely. I have an IT background, and will use a desktop for my computer work, but my phone should take decent photos and video for social media..:-) Again, thanks and will check out your other video's..Regards from southern In.

I suggest you the Sony Xperia M. Maybe is 2013, but still does miracles, but the big minus is the internal storage

Dude I love these things! There are a lot of phones out there which I don't care about, especially after buying a new phone (which I recently did) so most of the phone reviews I don't watch anymore (I watched all of them when I was deciding what phone to get though (LG G4) so I'm not complaining lol). However these informative reviews videos I think are great! I love this and the chipgate video! Please keep these sorts of videos coming, thanks :)

What about this idea??: What about a new series called "How It's Made In Tech" or "How Tech Is Made" or "Making Tech Explained"? Like "How it's made"? Thanks Please upvote comment so Marques can see this comment.

I was pretty impressed with your level of knowledge regarding cameras, did you do research or is camerawork a hobby of yours? Very informative video, I learned a few things.

Sadly, size limitations prevent us from having a really large image sensor like APS-C or Full Frame 35mm. No phone can match the image quality you can get from a DSLR camera.

Tip: Re Video Stabilization..Hold the phone as close to you as possible with your two hands...also in post editing use the KZbin Video Editor Stabilization...works fine provided the video is not too shaky...

Marques, you should have also made it clear that low light performance and background blur are related to the ratio between sensor size and lens aperture. For example, the iPhone 6s has a sensor 7,21 times smaller than a full frame camera (35mm equivalent). So, it's f2.2 lens multiplied by that crop factor results in a equivalent aperture of circa f16. That's not good for low depth of field photos and why, specially in low light conditions, pictures from smartphones have much more noise (because they need to compensate with a higher ISO).

+Luyang Che Thanks! I and many of my friends initially got fooled by the f/stops of smartphone (also point and shoot) cameras. All manufacturers give the equivalent 35mm focal length but not the lens aperture :(
@luyangche82789 жыл бұрын
Zé Caetano Very right. It's kinda a scam to express the focal length in full frame without changing the f stop number. The equation is flawed. Anyways, your welcomed.
