When you say you tried everything did you turn off battery optimization for the Gmail app? Edit: Oh wow. I didn't know so many had this issue lol. I realized this was a problem when I wasn't getting my Amazon delivery notifications and one day when I switched battery optimization off for a couple of games that I play(weren't getting the it's your turn notifications) I figured that Amazon, bank of America, KZbin, and Gmail probably shouldn't have optimization turned on either. Settings > Apps > Special Access (top right menu) > Optimize Battery Usage : Make sure the drop down is set to "All" and then uncheck any apps you want to always run in the background.

I really love and appreciate the fact that despite tech reviewing being his job, he doesn't feel it an absolute necessity to switch his phone over to the newer ones as they come out, despite the fact he's in a position to do so. He uses his existing device as long as it works just fine according to his daily routine. That's a class A act. You indirectly encourage and educate people, that just because one can buy a new phone as it comes out, doesn't mean they actually have to. It's an important lesson to learn in a time where we need to be utmost considerate towards our planet.

4:55 Have you tried altering the power saving settings (app specific settings)? Samsung has made some pretty weird choices as far as some of the battery saving modes go, one of them being; you not getting automatic push messages (or in some cases, the phone not even receiving the message(s) untill you open the app). I hope this helps, otherwhise i have no clue :P

I've been experiencing similar problems with an LG v35 using google voice, even with power saving exclusions I still occasionally miss a text and tend to not get calls, but it being a flaky google app, I have no way of knowing for sure whether the problem is LG rom/phone related or google being google.
