THANK YOU for posting this - particularly including the destruction gun, as it's something featured in the Epic talk on Destruction last year, but haven't found a way to do that myself (maybe it's in the 4.23 version of the Demo Project, but haven't tried it and can't get it to run on .24 or .25 when properly built).

No idea why but your anchor field doesn't work in 4.26 preview 4. Looks like the initialization field isn't working, and the geometry collection is pushed outside of the anchor as soon as the game starts, because it collides with the "cube". I've changed the cube's collision settings to let the geometry collection pass through but the field is still not working.

I have been having a similar issue. It works in the 4.26 version of the demo, but in 4.26 chaos with the exact same settings it is colliding. I also notice that the entire object shatters at once no matter what settings I put. Have you had any luck solving this on your end?

Have you thought about creating a sort of test map/mod for 'Operation: Harsh Doorstop' using their free UE4-based SDK tools? The modding community just added 'detonation' mode to the 'Steam' workshop too. You could use this feature in order to create map objectives such a destroying A.T. guns, fueldumps, vehicles, ammo supply dumps and so on. You've got the skills for it, that's for sure. Thanks for the video.

When I apply level set my objects fall straight through the level; however, when I use box it works fine. Weird.

Tutorial on how to set up internal strain field that just does internal strain pressure like you had it on that wall? I try that with a master field and it's internal strain settings are not the same, dont seem to behave that way

You have to start with a specific engine. Better look it up

Really good tutorial, thank you and you've put in a lot of side infos in there, perfect. Do you know wether it is or shall be possible in the future to import pre-sliced meshes from a 3d application? With Apex we used to be able to import own FBX chunks, would be great to have something like that in chaos destruction so we don't have to rely on automatic slicing. Wooden planks for example or metal plates break differently than concrete.

The whole point of Chaos (as Epic has explained) is to replace PhysX and to do everything in-engine. I think the other fracturing methods (planar) can yield the same results however I haven’t messed with them much. I know physX had custom slicing methods and currently Chaos doesn’t have anything too fancy like that. Maybe they will add it in the future

Great work man. People really appreciate your effort creating these tutorials. If I can I give an advice it would be to take it slower and explain why you do each step you make. Why you create these variables or why you added these components, nodes etc. From this tutorial alone you could create content for 4-5 videos that could also help your channel. This is just my advice - feedback. Keep up the great work.

This is the best breakdown I've seen, i still have concerns about how many games we'll see that use Chaos b/c a lot of devs (including me) were turned off by Epic's destructible mesh efforts.

I can't get the built in events of "On Chaos Break Event" "On Chaos Crumbling Event" etc to do anything and I don't know why they don't work.

Hi, thanks for your video. How can I save the "transform" of all pieces after they split? I tried with "get relative" or "get world tranform" from the actor's geometry collection component but it doesn't work, any ideas?

#SmartPoly - 14:30 - fields - why the heck when I tried to duplicate selected anchor (that cube or field) together with anchored mesh more then TWO copies then in brakes in pieces and not working anymore this field - it does not work. Why?? It works only if mesh are copied 2 times only. This same field cannot be applied to more then two meshes at same time. Why is this? How to fix it that it can be applied to unlimited times on unlimited amount of meshes? Otherwise if applied on more then two then it brakes the whole geometry anyway in pieces when game started. Can you do research please and make some update video please? Now it is available on 4.26 without compiling the chaos from Epic launcher install 4.26 chaos. Can you try it please?

Blocked by "Project_DestructionEditor modifies the value of bCompileChaos. This is not allowed, as Project_DestructionEditor has build products in common with UE4Editor"

Your tutorial was very informative and I do appreciate you taking the time to go over the Chaos Destruction; however, I seem to have a problem with the Gun destruction. I followed the tutorial precisely and yet the WeaponImpact seems to have no effect even when I change the values of the Damage Thresholds and the Strain/Force Magnitudes. Any idea on what I should probably do to fix this?

Very nice tutorial! I found that you are first who do Chaos so much and so clear explanation! Can you do please more advanced Chaos tutorial? Can you show how to pulverize in small small pieces but same time optimize for good frame rate? I saw that Epic games Demo and it looks like for Me that there are so small pieces fall of (UE 5 demo) - maybe it is just illusion because if they add some dust effect with Niagara and t looks like big pieces are falling together with small small particles or small chunks of rocks? And can you show please in next Chaos video how to really optimize when adding those sleep fields to stop simulation? Kind Regards!

If you want to pulverize I advise you then add niagra instead of breaking fully static meshes or any kind of object for good frame rates Something like this; it would be broken down then at some point destroyed (DELETED FROM THE WORLD) with the particles being spawned at the same time

when I wanted to add plugin FieldSystemEditor, the program restarted but never opened again. It says: The following modules are missing or built with a different engine version: FieldSystemEditor Engine modules cannot be compiled ar runtime. Please bild through your IDE.

Hi, does Chaos support network replication? I can’t find this answer anywhere. I’m love to run this on a large AWS instance if it is. I did see there is now “Headless Chaos” which sounds like it could be the basis for a cloud-based destruction offload like Crackdown 3.

Regarding the gun creation: Everytime I shoot at my destructable model the fractured pieces just disappear

@@philliptunnicliffe8388 I tried decreasing the magnitude for the angular torque in the weapon impact blueprint. That seems to fix it. I guess, just play around with the values in the weapon impact blueprint a little bit

You need to download UE version 4.27 - Chaos, it's different build than basic 4.27. Go to Epic launcher and in the engine tab click the + button overhead, then when a new engine icon shows up click the arrow down and scroll all the way down to find UE 4.27 - Chaos

Can you provide the original assets? I am following this with UE5 and I can't open it in UE4 without the whole recompiling with chaos thing.

Hey man, thanks for the tutorial. My geometry collection just explodes as soon external strain breaks the connections... not sure why. It's like all of the pieces are pushing each other apart, seems really unstable. I've been at it all day but can't get them to stop exploding. I hope this makes sense.

@smart Poly, I hope you can help me out with a small issue, I followed your steps exactly but in VS when I want to build i get a lot of error 1696 "file source cannot be opened" and a header error.. I know it has something to do with pathways in the project settings but I cannot figure out why :( Stuck for 2 days

I compiled unreal engine 4.25.3 with chaos successfully and messed around with some basic fracture. But in this video you have enabled field editor plugin. When i enabled the field editor plugin and restarted, I got an error before loading the project " module is missing or built with different engine version - field system editor". I don't know what went wrong :(

#SmartPoly - I found another problem with field system - UE4 creates error logs when field goes inside in the mesh - it creates material and especially physical material applied problems / errors/ How to fix it? When field is near by mesh and does not touch the mesh then UE4 does not create error logs for applied material on mesh or physical material.

Really nice video, thanks. Do you know how i can make destructive terrains like in Battlefield games. I saw the last video on Brushify channel, but i think this method have too strong effect. In my case i would like to make some slightly flat terrain, with possibility to make craters during game, exactly like in BF. Or maybe you have video like that already? P.S. sorry for my English skills)

I saw the tech demo for gears of war and it looked pretty similar to chaos. I expected more from 10 years of progress but all we really got is the gpu.

Hi, i have a problem : all my static meshes slides on the floor. I read somewhere that i needed to add a "StaticMeshSimulation" component but it does'nt do anything : object don't move unless i tick the simulate physics in the "normal" tab. Can someone help me ?

You could do it with a "sleep field" and a time delay so that it can slide for a few seconds and then freezes in place. There is an example in the unreal chaos examples level.

Yep it works out of the box, but Chaos is still pretty buggy. Epic games has explained in many videos that Chaos will be supported and optimized for multiplayer when its officially released too.

The UE5 demo had Chaos destruction at the end. Epic will most likely release a stable version with UE5

I find this new unreal physics very boring. As that was done many times better even way back in 2012. Many creators has shown physics and water simulations done perfect . Unreal still looks old style
