Yes!!! Thank you!!! My mom became blind at the age of 45 back then there were no smartphones, only Nokia. She now uses an old Nokia phone for calls and a 10 inch tablet for everything else.

You did a great job showing a sighted person how to use this phone. I tried closing my eyes to see if my totally blind 70 year old mother could do it. I dont see how it is possible from what and how you showed this phone. Any chance you can do a more simple lesson for the totally blind who are not familiar with smart phones? The pill reader was nice, Alexa and hi google also something she would enjoy, accessing books on tape also would be nice, checking email, or facebook messages also would be cool. And of course making calls as quick and simple as possible. Still a definite thumbs up for this video, I just want to find a way to teach my mother how to use a smart phone of some sort.
@theblindlife4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I was only given a demo unit for a short time to make the video. In most states there are low vision center is where people can go get training on all types of devices, smart phones included. I would recommend you guys look into something like that. That way she can learn the accessibility options on the smart phone.

My mother in law went blind at a older age. She could not use this phone plus she couldn't afford this phone. She couldn't use the keys or buttons because of arthritis. People who are born blind or go blind at a younger age adapt easier than a senior. She needs a phone which use total voice controlled. Call stored numbers, answer, hang up, simple is the best thing for her.

HI Sam. I am an ophthalmologist practicing low vision in the Philippines. I have been following you and asking my patients to follow you too. You have been very helpful with all your posts. I have a question. what is the equivalent of seeing AI for an android phone. A significant amount of my patients own android smart phones as it is much cheaper than the iPhone.

Greetings from South Africa. Thank you for your reply on the Blindshell videos. It just gets better every time because I'm not a huge fan of using touch screens on these phones so I'm glad to know that there is a tactile button keyboard as well. Seeing that this is an android device I'm assuming I can use Watsapp if I were to look into something like this one day. Looking at some of the comments it looks like this was developed on an outdated Android version so I think I'll look into the Blindshell phone for now and encourage the Blindshell developers to see how they can add Watsapp support.

Great video Sam! But I just don't know... It's basically the cost of a good flagship phone- nearly $900! And it has major drawbacks for me. What someone needs to do is have some kind of software that can turn any android phone into a low vision/blind friendly machine- without installing a hundred different apps to do that... ! Now THAT would be awesome! 😀

I agree. There are some aspects of the iPhone accessibility that I love and some that I don’t. It’s the same way with android. There is a software called Claria zoom for android that replaces the user interface and makes it more accessible. Similar user interface as to this phone. I need to do a video about that.

i love mine, the gps in the premium model 'kapten' is the best of the best.. of course it needs mobile data to use some functions and there are a few things that could be changed in future models but over all it is different and better than an iphone in a very tactile way..even though i have some sight left, it is a relief as i can use it with out any eyes and i mean fully use it, totally accesable.. the lanyard loop is great and the light leds are super bright... the ocr though is a bit hot and miss.
@LiveAccessible5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like a great idea phone. Out of curiosity, how long does your battery last?
@Selendrake745 жыл бұрын
Live Accessible same as a modern Samsung or iPhone, but if you use it for gps and stream sound to headfones or use a lot of the led lights for ocr, then the battery lasts less...it last a day in general terms

@@Selendrake74 thanks! Another question, does it have a way to use a virtual keyboard or do you have to use the T9 or dictation only?
@Selendrake745 жыл бұрын
Live Accessible Sometimes there is an online board keyboard but it’s quite small, there is the tactile keyboard the t9 and voice dictation... my local vision store sells palm size Bluetooth keyboard that might work because it connects to Bluetooth devices, but I have not tried installing in any third market add on keyboardsor swipe to type apps

Also download "Seeing AI" for ur phone - this phone is nearly 1 month of my income. I appreciate the video but I have an Ireat CCTV that I bought last year & it's a POS. I had an old Spectrun 20/20 - I don't know WHO an auto adjust works for but I wasted my money and I don't have enough to waste
