If anything could be said about this watch, it is that it has everything and more. The Ourtime X01S has the most pure implementation of Android 5.1 you are going to find. It has a camera and some really nice image editing software integrated into the camera experience. It's got the processor you want, the memory you need and -- and this is special -- expansion memory through microSD (TF card) support.
This is way more of a phone than a watch. With a solid snap on magnetically coupled dock, you can't go wrong. No wonder so many of you wanted a review of this one! Thanks to Gearbest and their constant attempt to grab one for review before each lot sold out, we were able to do this for ya. Enjoy!

In the box i received there was a battery pre installed and another in the box both marked as 600mAh.
I left it sat at home picking up emails, google and calendar notifications about 20 notifications over WiFi from 8 am till 11 pm it has gone from 100% to 77% battery. This probably doesn't help but it seems reasonable to me for a mini smart phone.

Got mine about a week ago. First thing to say is that it does actually function as a phone very well. Calls sound pretty clear locally and the remote party says that they sound very clear at their end. Battery life is very good, and battery drain in sleep mode is absolutely minimal. If you really make use of the connectivity options during the day you really do need at least a 600mAH battery ..and if you make use of GPS for any length of time you definitely need one. Just think of how quickly a phone with a battery 4 or 5 times the capacity drains with an app using location services all the time. But..and there's always a but..the watch faces are far too limited and not presently extendable and of course there is no 'twist wrist and the display comes on option' so you need to double tap the screen or press the top sleep button each time you want to see the time, or any app that you're running. It also advertises a gravity sensor but there isn't one..the only sensor fitted (or supported in firmware?) is an acceleration vector sensor. That rules out using a number of handy apps for mobile use, like compass ones. And the really bad news is that having provided the size of battery that would actually make it usable, the GPS performance is terrible. It really struggles to get a lock in anything but perfect conditions and the accuracy is generally pretty poor and bounces around a lot anywhere between 20ft and 90ft even when static. OK possibly for a quick 'where's the nearest petrol station' but not really that usable for driving directions there or much else..certainly not for anything requiring a quick lock or any degree of accuracy. I actually suspect that some of this is due to firmware not clearing the GPS cache data at startup as it almost invariably shows 11 or 12 satellites in view immediately you start it up..which is pretty unlikely. I'l investigate this a bit further but simply clearing the cache once it's started doesn't fix matters. Swappable battery is great..especially as they give you a spare one..but be really careful with those screws on the watch back because there aren't any spares provided (or a screwdriver..you'll need something like a 1.0 to 1.2mm watch screwdriver) and goodness knows those screws are very easy to lose if you are careless or just unlucky.

Pretty well actually. When the watch is 'sleeping' it consumes ~1 % per hour; with the display permanently on about about 30% per hour (WiFI and location services running) You'd get maybe 30 minutes of GSM call on a full battery (screen on as well) So ultimately it depends on how often you turn the screen on and actively use the watch, whether you have anything using the location services etc etc. However..I've recently had a couple of occasions where it's suddenly gone into high power drain..emptying the battery with the screen off in maybe two hours A rogue app perhaps, it also happens on smartphones now and again of course. I haven't managed to nail it down yet.

So we get a watch that finally gets it right with android 5.1+ decent RAM+storage space+TF card+clean OS+ a good fitness app+fricking waterproofing+ 2 X huge 600mAH batteries!!.... But fails on pretty much everything else that all the others had done right: has no custom clockins + silicon bands + no front camera + no fricking heart rate sensors (really?) + lamest speakers ever (what?) ... it's as if the manufacturer is purposely trolling us! Like "Yeah, it comes with the features you always wanted! I could keep all the other stuff you always take for granted... but what would be the fun in that? Off with those!!"

I feel your pain, JohnyK07. I, like you, keep waiting for the watch of my dreams. Not to mention you can't install custom watch faces on anything but No.1 and FINOW watches yet. Also, you have to replace the battery by taking the back off with a screwdriver each and every time, and you have to screw the screws in tightly each time or the battery will jiggle slightly and poof, the watch reboots. I'm really hoping this will be like how Apple does things (or at least used to do things when they innovated). They would release something whizbang new, but with problems. The next year they refined the device to give us almost perfect, until the next level of innovation, Perhaps the X02S or whatever they call it will really get it right. It's up to us to share what they got WRONG here and on other blogs so if they are listening they can improve on this otherwise brilliant model.

At least the future looks promising, and these brands seem to be hearing customer needs (not to mention they seem like they continuously churn out a batch of brand new models like every month or two). They just need to also not forget the basics, It's like they say: "if it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it"

I have to agree. I wasn't expecting it to be perfect but it did look really promising. Shame as you say that they dropped the ball on the basics. Really, I mean who wants a waterproof watch with a rather water-sensitive leather strap that you can't change and what's the point of putting a large enough battery in to support things like GPS and 'twist wrist to turn display on' without killing the battery quickly if the GPS doesn't work and there's no option for wrist controlled display? Likewise a swappable battery that you wouldn't dare change too often (and definitely not 'in the field') because you'd probably lose the screws or break the waterproofing seal. A few small improvements and they'd have a cracking product though, as Smartwatch Ticks says.

I think you can use the runkeeper app (not sure, I've never tried it) but I don't think you'll be able to access the heart rate data as the data seems to be locked by the OS in these watches. Anybody out there know for sure about this?

The two I had in mind are the FINOW Q1 and the BANAUS B2, just in case you're willing to give up on the Android thing or OK keeping the bands.

Nice job, I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for taking the time to review this watch, I have the X01 now but think I might try the X01s. My only issue with the X01 is that every month or so I have to return/replace it. I use mine for walking and water gets into the battery compartment. Hoping they've addressed this issue on the X01s. If you don't mind, try going walking for about a week, open the back panel and look for signs of leakage. After a month, mine will no longer accept a charge. Again, X01 not the X01s.

Thanks! Yes, you can sign into your Google account with the keyboard. I do it all the time on these watches. WiFi first, then Google, then update any Google apps before doing anything else (after charging the battery and checking for firmware updates, of course).

This looks close to perfect for me, all I would want is a different band material. I don't care how the actual watch faces look as long as I can read the time, I don't care about the speaker quality as I'd be using a BT headset and the heartrate sensors I could care less about. But to have 1 gb of ram, 8 gb of storage, sd card slot and some measure of waterproofing is just perfect. Stock-ish android is a plus as well.

I was debating so hard between this watch and the Z80, but ultimately went with the Z80 because of your great review of it, and I hadn't seen any decent reviews of this one, even though all the specks looked great. So, of course, as soon as my Z80 comes in, up pops this review! And since returning items to China is no small hassle or expense, I'm pretty much stuck with this one ...Which is very nice in functionality, but I'm really noticing the lower battery life, lower RAM, and the lower ROM with no option for memory expansion. Therefore, happen to have any tricks for boosting battery life besides turning things off when not needed? Any way of swopping out the batter for a 600 mAh? I heard that many of these smartwatches cannot hold a connection with a bluetooth headset. I doubt that many people would actually call holding the watch to their ear. +Rick B That would be nice but the producer of this video presumed that there are antennas in them. In this case, I guess, if you don't need the antennas you could replace the straps. Or if you could "surgically" remove them and place them into some other straps.

Wow, I don't know the answers without Googling to find the specs. Perhaps you can try that first. You'll get more accurate answers than with me taking out a tape measure. With speaker holes in the band, a tiny mic hole on the watch, and bands that don't look like they should get wet, I'd suggest not much water on this one. Somebody already posted that his X01 gets wet inside just from body sweat and he has to replace it every few months. He doesn't have an X01S yet though.

I don't have an opinion on that as 'best' is subjective. Best screen display, best sound for audio, best screen size, best round, best square, etc. Best will be the one you are drawn to that catches your interest. Have a look at some of the videos. They are all different.

I have an tf card installed however I cannot move apps to sd card nor can I choose to write directly to it. Just a question. I know extra watch faces can be added to No.1 D5 etc but how about the Ourtime x01s? Many of the other watches have android 4.4 or 5.1 like the x01s. There seems to be very little info about this watch{loved your video about it so much I bought one ). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

So far only FINOW and No.1 watches, both Android 4.4 and 5.1, support the developer created watch faces. All the others us a different User Interface (UI) and won't allow these external faces to be added.

Big problem on this watch by the way is that the charging cradle doesn't offer USB connectivity. Now that doesn't stop you transferring files etc of course because you can do that easily over Wifi with an FTP server on the watch or Airdroid (both on Play Store) ..but what happens if you want to play around with the watch faces or something and you manage to corrupt it..no way to boot the watch and get back in to replace the OS..or upgrade it locally.

Very good point, Andy. I couldn't get computer connectivity from the X01S either. Guess we need to be careful to not mess anything up! This is a great watch, but it does have it's limitations.

Keep up the great reviews by the way, always enjoy watching them. Perhaps a couple of simple tests like percentage battery usage in one hour of screen on and whilst in sleep, does it actually have the features and sensors fitted they say it does ..and do they work(!).. would also be very useful. Your reviews probably carry a bit of clout, which might make them sit up and do something about missing claimed features and obvious failings!

At 31'45" you said it's a 5 MP camera but specifications mention 2 MP. Antutu shows 4.9 MP so I wonder if that is 2 MP interpolated to 5 MP? Do you maybe know if the frame and back lid are made of steel or aluminium? Thank you.

Yes, all indications are that it's a 2mp camera up-interpolated to 5mp which is why the file size indicates it's a 5mp picture. But it's not as sharp as a true 5mp picture.

Yes, at this price it would be too much to expect real 5 MP camera. It looks like those Tenfifteen X01 and X09 watches that GearBest sells are having 2 MP cameras, though the specifications say 5 MP. Thanks for your quick response.

Wow, I don't know at the moment. Suggest you check the spec sheets on both of them to get the pixel numbers (like 400x400 as on the X5plus and LEM5 for example). Should be easy to find.

I'd suggest re-watching both videos and get a feel for which one is for you. For me the Q1 has better overall quality and is easier to use. It looks nicer, but these are all my opinions and may not be yours.

Perhaps your SD card formatted in exFAT file system and smartwatch does not support it. Try to format it to FAT32 with "sdformatter" and chek again.

Just a question, the loudspeaker is efficient? I'm using a Finow q1 as a secondary phone, but when in open places it's not so good, I can't hear phone calls as I need. Is this Ourtime similar or better to this?

My experience so fare is the Ourtime is even softer than the FINOW watches. Such a shame as the speaker is right up front and not on the back like on the FINOW watches, There's just very little volume. I'll do more testing just in case there's something wrong and the volume is suppressed for some reason, but I'm not happy with the volume at this point. You can always connect with a Bluetooth speaker or earpiece and that works fine.

hey, i decided to buy this watch, want it for my runing. and when i got it got very!!!!!!! dissapointed with 1st, bluetooth earphones not really working :( need to put my arm next to my head when runing-only than i can hear my music think its a major test you . are missing. 2nd charging is very bad issue, very bad contacts. magnet wont hold phone tight -no charge unless i really press watch down. lol find my self looking for corners of tables to find good spot to charge. 3rd miss a way to go around open apps without closing it- cant rember if we had it on android 5 phones

Oh, OK. Usually it's best to check with the carrier you plan to use and see if it works with them. Even at&t uses different bands for urban vs rural. They change from time to time as well as we go from 2G to 3G to 4G, etc.

I got mine today.. (02/09/16) 1st impressions... good, quality build. Even came with a spare battery.. Now after having to use it for 3 days i have recharged the battery 3 times. I don't get a day out of it, even with everything turned off. Gearbest state 7 days.."RUBBISH" now i know why it came with a useless spare battery. You have to put it in the watch to charge it.. go figure. Value for money is A BIG NO!!!! specially the way the Australian Dollar ($141) is.. That's odd Steve as the battery in mine does indeed last pretty well at the moment...with WiFI and GPS on. I'll do a more accurate battery life test.Though I can't imagine any smartwatch battery lasting 7 days unless you just leave it turned off! If you have any Android wear devices (I have the Sony Smartwatch 3 which has a 450mAh battery and with GPS constantly active on that you'd be lucky to get 5 hours) you'll know that there's absolutely no chance of something trying to power a phone module as well lasting any more than a day or two with much use. I wonder if the spare battery is there because they have a heck of a lot of duds..might be worth trying it. These companies for the most part seem to just advertise features they think will sell the watch without much regard for whether they're true or not and I suspect support, upgrades etc will be pretty non-existent. There might possibly be a couple of exceptions to that as Finow and Zeblaze seem to at least provide updates and some support but in general I think these watches are an interesting technology exercise but ultimately for occasional use only until battery technology changes radically.

I actually swapped the battery last night, fully charged but in "Battery Saver mode", no gps no wifi and whatever it switches off i have 28% left because its bedtime in Australia. OK on your Sony, that's a disappointment not a cheap watch..!! anyhow lets hope that these X010S is a good lasting watch. Its only a backup for me and a bit of a novelty, plus my 1st so called smartwatch..Cheers

Hi Did a quick test on the X01S. GPS and WiFI on ..though no GPS apps running. 6 hours in sleep mode - 5% of battery used. 1 hour with display permanently on (watch face) 30% of battery used. 1 minute phone call on GSM 3% used (full signal strength.. power usage increases in weak areas and increases substantially with 3G) 5 minutes of screen on and active GPS app running - 5% used. Gives you an idea of what a working battery achieves on this watch I hope. GPS is a killer on everything usually, largely because of the way everyone makes extensive use of Google Play location services. I used my Sony SW3 for golf yardages and found that not one leading commercial program would make a full 18 hole round on a long course..they usually gave up on the 15th hole or so with any real use. I wrote my own Wear app doing my own distance calculations etc and I get, on the same course and same watch, a full 18 hole round and 30+% of the battery left..so the way software is written makes a heck of a difference...in this case from 6.6% of battery used per hole to 3.4% per hole...and from unusable to usable!

Wow, Andy, thanks for this extensive information. Perhaps you may know of a real effective power saving app that brute forces GPS off and keeps it off even when apps like Google's try and turn it on just for browsing or Hangouts, etc. We need something that can really clamp down when we don't need LS, BT, WiFi, cellular, etc., yet easy to inactivate when we do. I understand just going into Airplane mode isn't good enough and has no effect on location services. Any ideas? It would be great if it were a toggle on/off thing you just touch to activate or inactivate after setting it all up, much like mute apps work. If anybody else knows in addition to Andy, please share. I really want to include something like this in a video as it seems battery life is the achilles heel of these watches!

I use my watch phone as my phone but the one I have wont run their 3G network. Don't even have a regular phone because I love watch phones so much.

Yes, it works for me. As long as the 3G 1900 and 850 MHz bands are present, it should work fine next year.
